We have come a LONG way when it comes to communicating emergencies to the public. Through social media, within seconds, a message can be sent to relay critical weather information to millions of people. That is a huge responsibility for the weather community. On Episode 21 of Tornado Talk, we are taking a snapshot of how we are doing conveying severe weather information over social media. What are we doing right? What could we do better? What are the best and worst in social media platforms? What are tips for those just starting out in the world of weather information dissemination. We have an awesome panel of social media experts who will help guide us on this journey. Tim Ballisty, a freelance social meteorologist formerly of The Weather Channel; NWS Houston forecaster Melissa Huffman; WBRZ-TV meteorologist and founder of thewxsocial.com Josh Eachus; and Dr. Marshall Shepherd, the director of the Atmospheric Sciences Program at the University of Georgia, host of the television show Weather Geeks on The Weather Channel, a contributor to Forbes magazine – writing a weather and climate column and past president of the American Meteorological Society.
