On June 15, the new video podcast “Happy Hour with Ray and Adam Cox” debuted live at Elite Beverages in Noblesville. The inaugural podcast featured father-son duo Ray and Adam Cox, owners of seven Elite Beverages liquor stores in Noblesville, Lawrence, Fortville, McCordsville, Cumberland and New Palestine.

Longtime local radio and TV icon Joni Michels will be hosting each show and feature guests from the industry. For the kickoff episode, David McIntire from West Fork Whiskey Co. talked about their new line of distilled whiskey from Zionsville.

“Well, most of us are just overachieving C students,” Ray joked when he was asked about his background in the liquor business. “We’re very fortunate to be in the business. Someone once told me, ‘You won’t get the money of a king in the booze business, but you’ll live like one. And you’ll love it.’”

Throughout the 25-minute podcast, the four sampled one of McIntire’s whiskies, Two Hour Delay, and discussed anything and everything from mixers to seasonal drinks. Ray also made a point to emphasize why liquor stores couldn’t sell on Election Day up until 2011. After Prohibition was repealed, the local elections were held in a tavern. The tavern owner was usually the sheriff running the election as well, so there was no way the sheriff could run an election at the same time he was serving alcohol.
