As we continue studying through our theme for the first trimester of "God and Family First", we spent time Sunday on the topic of raising godly, obedient children who honor their father and mother. This conversation is a recap of the discussions we had in our group Sunday evening. The questions we discussed are below for reference.
1. What is the long-term impact – in the church, in our homes, in our communities – of framing, or reframing, godliness, honor and obedience as the norm for our children as they grow up? (Ephesians 6:1-3, Judges 2:8-12)
2. As parents, how can we best deal with the immense pressure to cultivate faith within our children as they grow? And, how can we (the church) support one another in those efforts?
3. What does Godly discipline within a home that helps lead a child to honor and obey their parents look like? What does it not look like? (Josh 4:19-24, Prov 29:15, Prov 13:24)
4. Titus 2:4 says “…that they (the older women) admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children…”. Doesn’t loving our children just come naturally? Why, and in what ways, does it need to be taught from one generation to the next?
