Jen Fleeton joins us on today’s episode. Jen is a strength and conditioning specialist and current PhD candidate at the University of Sydney who has managed the S&C for the range of parathletes from the amatuer all the way up to paralympians who brought home gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympics.
Jen and Mark discuss how working with para-athletes differs from able bodies athletes, and the considerations that come into play when working with CP athletes in particular. Most importantly, which Jen mentions a few times is the ability to have honest conversations with your para-athlete and the willingness to admit that something hasn’t worked for your adaptation, then move on and try another method. With such a diverse range of specificities CP athletes can experience, there is no one-size fits all method, and this challenge although difficult, is incredibly rewarding.
