Shut up! The Footies on Triple M!

0:03

Triple M Footy starts your weekend early.

0:06

How good is Footy? With every massive

0:08

moment. When you hunt, you hunt! This...

0:11

Couldn't be more exciting. Is the Thursday rough.

0:13

I'll just talk about myself and

0:15

we'll be alright. Up on down to

0:17

thirsty camel bottle shops for un-seriously good

0:19

Easter deals. Drink responsibly. For

0:21

Reem Hot Water in McDonald's. Triple M. Rock

0:24

City. Oh,

0:27

what a big night for Footy tonight. An absolute cracker.

0:29

Huge game for both clubs. The Brisbane Lions and Collingwood.

0:31

Zipping to the Lions. Zipping

0:34

through the pays. Who would have thought after the

0:36

greatest grand final summer scene ever last year in

0:38

2023 for these two great clubs? This is the

0:40

Triple M Thursday rub for thirsty camel. Daisy Thomas,

0:42

good evening to you. Great to be alongside you

0:45

again, Baz. They let

0:47

us loose last Sunday down at Ballarat. Who

0:49

would have thought that deadly combination has been

0:51

sent to another state together to just tear

0:53

it apart tonight? Yeah, we fronted

0:55

the hearing, but we were found

0:57

innocent. Kate McCarthy, good evening to you.

1:00

Good evening up there, guys. Yes, I'm excited for

1:02

this game, but also

1:04

excited to finally be back alongside Daisy. They've

1:06

tried to keep us apart this whole season,

1:08

and we just said, you know what?

1:10

We won't take that any longer. We

1:13

need to be put on the same show together. Couldn't agree

1:15

more, Kate. Jay Clark, good evening to you. You've been a

1:17

quite week? Oh, just been quite relaxed.

1:19

I got a banana lounge in the Herald Sun

1:21

office. I just sort of lay back on that

1:23

at times and sip a cool little fruit juice.

1:25

So, no, it's been quite quiet, Barry, to be

1:27

honest. I think much happening. Been an

1:30

unbelievable week in the

1:32

world of AFL, and all the battle lines

1:34

have been drawn, and we'll talk about

1:36

it shortly. We certainly will. Days are always

1:38

nice to travel together. You learn a lot

1:41

about people when you travel together, don't you?

1:44

Well, you do, and you probably figure out a pecking

1:46

order and where you sit pretty quickly, both

1:48

figurative and literally. Because I was sitting

1:50

in 30 debas. Yes, you were. Which

1:53

genuinely backs onto the shitters on the

1:55

aircraft. It does. Yes,

1:58

the case that was served wasn't really good. received well

2:00

by some. I can report that

2:02

much. But I did know getting on the front, which

2:04

was a bit of a flex, that Triple

2:07

M's great and one of is

2:09

Bryant Taylor. He was firmly slaughtered

2:11

and not moving from 1A. Rightly

2:13

so. And I thought maybe after

2:15

five or six years now in the caper I might have

2:17

got to an exit road, but it

2:19

hasn't looked likely and I'm 30D again

2:21

on the way home tomorrow. Well Dave,

2:23

at least you're not five or six years in and they're

2:25

still announcing you as new. So

2:27

that's me. Welcome

2:30

to KCHE's new. I've been doing this for

2:32

six years, but thank you very much for

2:34

having me. Well here's one thing though. So

2:36

BT you expected. He's a bit older. He's

2:38

been around the traps for a long time.

2:40

He's earned the right to fly up the

2:42

front and although he does

2:44

roam in Brian, he's probably not one

2:46

of the people's champs. You

2:48

call it for what you will. But Barry Denno,

2:50

you are the people's caller. You are the people's

2:52

champ. I don't even get paid. I do it

2:54

for hamburgers and the people's. Well that's a complete

2:57

crock-off because tomorrow I have it on

2:59

really strong authority. Yes. That you will

3:01

be just waiting for the ropes to

3:03

click as you position yourself

3:05

with a champagne and a croissant

3:07

in 1B next to BT. The

3:09

issue was Jay, in all fairness

3:11

to me, I was sent up

3:13

there once and it's one of

3:15

those situations that once you go up there Kate,

3:17

you can't, I just can't look back anymore. But

3:20

I think I'm a good person because when I

3:22

go up there I do look back and empathise

3:24

with everybody else. So that makes

3:26

me a good person. Well I heard a whisper Barry

3:28

that's just on your way into the

3:31

gabbard today, you know, in acknowledgement of your

3:33

new found sort of status and celebrity

3:35

and you know position

3:37

in triple M and

3:39

general commentary, um, iconism.

3:42

I like it. I'm one of

3:44

them. I've made that

3:46

up. The you were spotted signing

3:48

multiple autographs and doing selfies and

3:51

I think someone even asked you for an item

3:53

of your clothing. That was the obsession that the

3:56

public had with you. Is that all of that

3:58

right? Jay to be fair on me. and

4:00

days of you that was forced on me. The

4:03

gentleman thrusts the signature thing in

4:05

front of me. That's a pen.

4:07

Yes. That's right. It

4:10

was, again, rather humbling when I'm sort of strutting

4:12

in. The pies are in town. I've got the

4:15

shoulders back, the chest out, fresh trim, fresh trim.

4:17

And the beer got a few rays up there

4:19

by the pool this afternoon. Yes, it is. I

4:21

thought, this is a bit of daisy time. And

4:23

the boat comes standing past me, nearly gives me

4:25

windburn, straight to Mr. Denner with a pen and

4:27

paper. Yeah. As I said, it did say icons,

4:29

commentary, icons, and personalities. Yeah, no, I'm

4:32

a great believer in you need to stay

4:34

connected with everybody. And we know what to

4:36

respect up in Brisbane, don't we, Baz? We

4:38

do love our Baz up there. Yeah, for

4:40

sure. Enough about me anyway. What about you,

4:42

Daisy? You're having a little box on happening

4:44

in about six days this morning. Yes, Gather

4:46

Round is here. And we're sort of kicking

4:48

it off on a Wednesday night. The gathering

4:51

over there in Adelaide, it's going to be

4:53

good fun. It's going to be packed out.

4:55

We're at Adelaide 36's arena. And I'm

4:57

really looking forward to it. I've done the work.

4:59

Now, I'm just sort of, this is a little

5:01

training off period. Not at a good

5:03

time with Easter, a long weekend, a lot of chocolate. And

5:06

I do have a slightly sweet tooth. I

5:08

also like dimsims. They're not related to Easter, but I'll probably have some

5:10

of them. But yeah, no, it's

5:12

not far away now, Mr. Denner. I've got

5:14

a question for you, Daisy, because I'll be honest. When

5:16

we started working together a couple of years ago, you

5:18

were sort of rocking a triple XL shirt. I thought,

5:20

was it at least a triple XL? Certainly

5:23

a healthy double XL. But now you're svelte,

5:25

and you're slim, and you're lean, and

5:28

you're jumping around up there, sort of shadowboxing.

5:30

How much weight have you actually lost? By

5:32

the time the fight kicks off, I'll be the best

5:34

part of 12 or more kilos lighter

5:36

than when I returned from London. We all know the famous

5:38

Heathrow injection, where you walk in and come out a bit

5:40

puffy. You look like you're smiling at a couple of pillows.

5:42

That might have hit me harder than most. But

5:44

the training has been fun. And the more you do

5:47

of it and the fitty you get, the harder you

5:49

can go. And I've really enjoyed that. So

5:51

yeah, it is going to be a good time. And Jay,

5:53

just quickly, what size do you reckon I wear? None.

5:57

Whatever. Not yet. Yeah, you're not allowed to

5:59

try. I'm not allowed to say that Jay, I'm

6:01

looking at, I go down the Coldingwood

6:03

team sheet here in their weight. Patti

6:06

Lipinski, he's been on a good diet, he's zero

6:08

kilograms, so he's going to go-y. We're

6:10

not allowed to talk about this anymore. Expect

6:13

the call from H.A.K. Are you backing our man

6:16

in, Kate? Do you think

6:18

Daisy will get the job done? I mean, you work

6:20

very closely with Daisy, and

6:22

you know, I mean, he's seen at

6:24

the front and everyone here's in the season. Use

6:26

your head here with you. He's a very, very

6:29

nice guy. He's got a tough matchup, hasn't

6:31

he? He's got a tough matchup. If I was looking at

6:33

that card, the two people I wouldn't want to fight would

6:35

be Dainswan and Mitch Robinson, because they are

6:37

genuinely just a bit, a bit vaunter. Yeah,

6:40

I like it. So, I'm wishing him all

6:42

the best. You know me, I'm just going

6:44

to be a mum sitting in the crowd,

6:46

just hoping that no one gets hurt, but

6:48

considering it's boxing, that's very likely that someone's

6:50

going to get hurt. I just hope it's not our

6:52

days. I certainly hope. I tell you how the strategy

6:54

this fight's going to play out, Baz. Dainswan

6:56

is going to stand in the middle of the

6:59

ring, and from the start, just try and land

7:01

the big ones from early, and then Daisy with

7:03

his new-found belt, he will be dancing around like

7:05

Peter Rabbit in the ring. He'll be like bopping

7:07

around and doing all that sort of stuff, and

7:09

try and tie, swat him with the old-fashioned rope-a-dope.

7:11

He will try and rope-a-dope, he will be trying

7:13

to land the heavy blows early, and then our

7:15

man, Daisy, late in the third round, will pop,

7:18

pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, and

7:20

then get him and he'll fall over with the old-fashioned rope-a-dope.

7:22

You should have been my coach. We went with a big

7:24

dive in about the 30 seconds. The

7:29

rope-a-dope also sounds good. You can see that

7:31

video, the camera, pick the photo, I think

7:33

you call that, of Baz up on the

7:35

trip on socials now. And Daisy,

7:37

if all else fails and you have no other way out, just

7:39

bite his ear off and they'll stop the fight. Are they

7:41

right? No, I think he's tracking

7:44

well, because I mentioned Swannie's name in the car on the way

7:46

here, and he started to break into a sweat, so I think

7:48

he's OK. He's feeling pretty good. As

7:50

we sit off the top, cannot believe, really,

7:52

when you look at these two clubs and

7:54

where they're at, after what was

7:56

one of the greatest grand finals we've ever seen last

7:58

year. Let's just have a look. some of the latter

8:01

highlights of that game. The

8:30

first of the game with the side

8:32

yummy up. And

8:36

the game is number 10.

8:38

The last of the

8:40

game. The

8:42

50th side bottom, he'll hit up. The

8:45

5th one I reckon. More

8:48

points leading to 5. 4.38 on the

8:50

clock. Absolutely

8:52

everything. The other side, bottom

8:54

and side. Hit 50. The

8:58

second one is 9. given

10:00

up the other end. Just all the little

10:02

things had to go right for the pies

10:04

they did. But an extraordinary situation now with

10:06

both teams winless and season on the line

10:09

so history says or the data says that

10:11

if you start the season 0-3 it's almost

10:13

impossible to make finals and Collingwood they lose

10:15

tonight they go 0-4. Yeah you go to

10:17

press conferences and you speak to coaches and

10:19

you ask them is this game

10:21

bigger than normal? Like does this mean more? Is

10:23

this game more important? They look at you like

10:26

you're stupid. Daisy and Kate, will

10:28

the Collingwood and Brisbane Lions players be

10:31

running out tonight knowing the stakes and

10:33

the significance of this game? This is

10:35

surely a bigger game than normal. Oh

10:37

absolutely yeah it definitely is a bigger game

10:39

than normal and I think coaches

10:41

coaching staff they run that narrative in the

10:43

way that you want to play your system

10:45

week in week out obviously. With

10:48

the real preconceived idea is

10:50

if we put more stress on this game

10:53

and then next week we're playing against an

10:55

opponent we're sitting fourth they're sitting 12th they

10:58

won't get up for the game blah blah

11:00

blah that's that's the coaching line but as

11:02

a player you know like you absolutely know

11:04

that tonight going into this game both players

11:06

sorry both teams they need to bring their

11:08

A game they need to dig in reflect

11:10

on the things that didn't work or haven't

11:13

worked the last couple of weeks and they're

11:15

well aware not even in the context of

11:17

the season but just this game

11:19

is really important tonight for

11:21

a team to walk away with with a

11:23

win but also knowing that their system can

11:26

stand up because both of them have had

11:28

questions around sort of things that they've got

11:30

right things that they've got wrong this year

11:32

and yeah I just think when

11:34

we looked at this fixture when would we have ever thought

11:36

this would be 12 verse 15 Thursday of Easter weekend.

11:40

Yeah it's a crazy setup I think for the

11:42

Pies they have to look at it as a

11:45

mini final because if they don't it's season near

11:47

on done zip and for Hawks next week then

11:49

a bye it's gonna be very tough

11:51

for them with the evenness of the competition so when

11:53

they walk out tonight when they walk up the race and

11:55

the camera pans to them I don't want to see

11:57

the smiles I know we saw it on grand final day

12:00

And it was you know, it was still a little

12:02

bit too happy for me I know you want to

12:04

be relaxed and enjoy it but tonight I want to

12:06

see like the real intent of yes We're

12:08

enjoying it, but we're also here to get the job

12:10

done. We've got an edge about us We haven't been

12:13

hard enough. We haven't been hard enough on each other

12:15

and we haven't been good enough for the first three

12:17

weeks So tonight we go out there up against backs

12:20

up against it up here at the gabber against

12:22

the side who very rarely gets beaten up here

12:24

and they need to provide a Supreme effort play

12:26

good team footy, which has been lacking And

12:29

just enjoy the fact that the contest

12:31

first will bring the joy after the match go

12:33

back to 2010 days He lifted

12:36

the cut Ross Lauren said you're the number one play in the game

12:39

2011 people forget this the Collingwood side in 2011 was

12:41

invincible Your average winning

12:43

margin over the first 16 rounds was like

12:45

60 points You come out and smashed everyone

12:47

your bellies weren't full after that cup year

12:50

There's been questions about that the premiership hangover

12:52

for this Collingwood side. How did you frame

12:54

it? How did you how did you go

12:56

whack after winning the flag last in 2010?

12:59

Well, we rocked up the first day of preseason Mick

13:02

Mould house just said right go. Hope you've all

13:04

had a great summer Yep, you

13:06

won the premiership good No one gives a stuff you can

13:08

look at that of the rest of and the rest of

13:10

your accolades when you retire for now We've got work to

13:12

do and you Experience it for those who did back to

13:15

work because your spots now on the line There's other blokes

13:17

trying to take it and we did we

13:19

got to work Unfortunately, there was a better side throughout

13:21

the year in Geelong that we just couldn't figure out

13:23

a way to beat I nearly got it done on

13:25

grand final day except Tomahawk turned into Wayne Carey and

13:27

Stevie Johnson We're smart enough to get the ball off

13:29

him and Ben Reid still hasn't lived it down But

13:32

apart from that it is hard It's hard to

13:34

get up week in week out But for the pies

13:36

tonight the equation becomes pretty simple and the motivation

13:38

should be right in front of them Preview

13:48

before the Brisbane and Collingwood game here

13:50

tonight's massive at the gabber This is

13:52

triple-m Thursday rub for thirsty camel Daisy

13:54

Thomas in the house Kate McCarthy and

13:57

Jay-Z Clark Jay-Z Let's get

14:00

up to date with the drug stand-off coming out

14:02

of Melbourne. Coaches have had their say today, everyone's

14:04

had their say. Yeah, it's been a massive 48

14:06

hours really hasn't it in the AFL world and

14:09

there's been two clear and distinct

14:11

sides being taken. There's those like

14:13

Eddie Maguire and even Max Gorn

14:15

on the Marty Shigold show

14:18

this morning on Triple M sort of

14:20

call for tougher penalties and a more

14:22

punitive model, sort of more of a

14:24

deterrent for AFL players who are

14:26

going through these off the book tests

14:28

and faking injuries potentially to try and dodge the

14:31

tests and heavy sort of water sanctions over

14:33

illicit drug use whether there's others like the

14:35

AFL and the AFLPA who are saying this

14:37

is a medical model, it's to support the

14:40

players, those who are having genuine problems and

14:42

mental health issues and if we do make

14:44

it tougher then they're just going to walk

14:46

away from it entirely and then we are

14:48

putting the playing cohort or at least some

14:50

of those people at risk.

14:52

So there's really two clear sides to

14:55

this debate and a

14:58

lot of emotion, a lot of strong opinion

15:00

clearly. Let's have a listen first of all

15:03

to Max Gorn and his

15:05

comments on Marty Shigold this morning about how

15:07

angry and frustrated he was at these revelations.

15:10

In the last 24 hours I've gone from

15:12

angry and surprise to I

15:15

like that the doctors step in at

15:17

strike one and I think

15:19

that's a great thing about our policy is

15:22

we're there to help rather than

15:24

we're there to scapegoat. I

15:27

get there might be people taking the piss within this

15:30

but if we're catching the majority that need

15:32

the help. You're helping a young kid out

15:34

who's made a mistake on the weekend, that

15:36

kind of thing. If we're helping them by

15:39

having a policy because a lot of other

15:41

codes don't have a policy at all in

15:43

this space. We have a policy

15:45

that's got holes in it galore but we

15:47

have a policy and it's catching people along

15:49

the way and being able to rehabilitate them.

15:52

I like that. The deterrent is not there

15:54

or it's fading. So

15:56

something needs to be bigger potentially on the

15:58

first strike. He was, Max Golan, one

16:01

of the most respected voices in the playing

16:03

group, along with Eddie Maguire, of course the

16:05

former Collingwood president, Daisy Yorman back in the

16:07

day, wants a bigger penalty, a bigger deterrent

16:09

for players who, as he says, might be

16:11

taking the mickey. What say you, Kate McCarthy

16:13

and Dale Thomas? Do we need to

16:15

get tougher on these players taking the

16:17

mickey and gaming system? I think the

16:20

problem that I have with what

16:23

sort of has been raised is

16:26

the preparation of the players if

16:28

they're undertaking a test during the

16:30

week and saying that it wouldn't

16:32

be out of their system, say, by a Friday

16:34

game. Generally speaking,

16:37

cocaine, if that's the drug that we're talking about, which

16:39

it most likely is, is out of your system in

16:41

sort of 48 hours. My

16:44

concern is the playing

16:47

cohort that are taking

16:50

part in recreational drug use Tuesday,

16:52

Wednesday, Thursday of the week when they have a

16:54

game. That's the issue

16:56

that I have and that's a real

16:58

concern from a wellbeing and welfare point

17:01

of view if a player is doing that. That

17:03

is a concern. My

17:05

understanding of the, I guess,

17:08

code and policy in place is that then

17:10

a player is given the support, the

17:13

means to, I guess, access psychologists,

17:15

given them a lot of support

17:17

in that area, intervention if it's

17:19

needed. I think that's what needs to

17:21

happen. I don't think the public

17:23

needs to know that that happened. I think if

17:26

they're putting their hand up, they're getting tested, they're

17:28

withdrawing from the game. They've

17:30

done the right thing in that regard. Obviously,

17:32

not the initial part. I don't agree with

17:34

that, that being the right thing. But in

17:37

any job, in any occupation, if you were

17:39

going to go to work and you knew

17:41

you were going to fail a test of

17:43

any regard, so pilots need to be zero

17:46

blood alcohol level when they fly a plane.

17:48

If a pilot went out the night before they had a

17:51

flight, yes, it's a shift at work. They

17:53

did the wrong thing. They had a boozy, a

17:55

massive night. They would not rock

17:57

up to work, test positive and get

17:59

fired. They would call in sick and they would

18:01

take the day off. How is this

18:03

any different? Yes, and

18:06

potentially there's a

18:08

risk of being made public. Thomas,

18:11

what are your thoughts on this? Well,

18:13

we've heard the phrase medical model. I

18:15

think it needs to be sort of

18:17

grasped under medical mental health and wellbeing.

18:19

We wander first and foremost, make sure

18:21

the person's alright. There's a lot of

18:23

talk about what's to happen.

18:25

It needs to be tougher for a first strike,

18:27

but there's nobody really presenting at the minute a

18:29

better argument than that with any sort of steps

18:31

in place, what that's going to look like. That's

18:34

where the AFL need to go and work with

18:36

clubs, players and a broad spectrum

18:38

of players too. Don't just get

18:40

the blokes out the front who are your clean skins who

18:42

have never made a mistake in their life, who are the

18:45

ones that are setting all the good examples. Speak

18:47

to a couple of the players that have fallen

18:50

through the cracks or have found it difficult and

18:52

go to them for reasons as to,

18:54

alright, well, what was your mindset? Why did you do

18:56

it? Why would you risk it? What

18:58

can we do going forward to prevent this?

19:00

I've got no issues with the first strike

19:03

being a tougher penalty and a greater sanction,

19:05

if you will, however that looks. I

19:09

don't think that you give the

19:12

public access to numbers, to information,

19:14

to players because we've

19:16

seen it in the AFL. As soon as

19:18

somebody is blasted across the front page, whether

19:21

it be Jack Ginnivan had his moment, Bailey

19:23

Smith as well, with social

19:25

media and all of that at the

19:27

moment, it is just relentless. That

19:30

should be near on deterrin enough, but I'm

19:34

all for this progressing, but how it happens,

19:36

I don't know. The AFL has

19:38

spoken to all 18 Club CEOs this

19:40

afternoon and said they don't want to go to

19:43

a more punitive model, they will stay a supportive

19:45

welfare model. So that's the indication at this stage.

19:47

Yeah, I just think the thing that needs

19:49

to be considered most is the education around

19:51

it. Like educating

19:53

the player, educating the choice, understanding why

19:56

the choice has been made as well

19:58

and where that's come from. from because

20:01

at the end of the day these players are

20:03

young, they're inexperienced, they've come out of school and

20:06

they've got a large income, some of them

20:08

in stages of their life where they're not

20:10

mature enough to make the choices that some

20:12

of us are when we reflect back on

20:14

our lives. Yeah, no doubt mistakes are

20:16

definitely being made. Ross Lyon who spoke

20:18

today said he would like an overall

20:21

snapshot if there was the data released

20:23

on the number of tests or positive

20:25

tests that would help inform the picture.

20:27

So no naming of names but more

20:29

detail in the general snapshot. For

20:32

Reem Hot Water in McDonald's, Triple

20:35

M, Rock Don't

22:00

you have a different relationship with your senior coach

22:02

though? Aren't they more invested,

22:05

affected, committed in your development? But some

22:07

people have a good relationship, others have

22:09

just a purely working relationship. Yes, some

22:11

of them have been father figures in

22:13

the past, but a lot of those

22:15

people who have taken the father figure

22:17

role have been the ones who've almost

22:19

helped and guided these players through a

22:21

sticky time rather than trying to find

22:23

out more information from what it sounds

22:25

like so they can use it as

22:27

a deterrent to pick and or select.

22:30

You go to any doctor at any

22:32

place, you work any occupation, there's patient

22:34

doctor confidentiality, they sign off on it,

22:36

it's 100% they're bound by it. So

22:40

if a player, even if

22:42

the AFL wants to change this law,

22:44

if a player tells a doctor that

22:46

they do not want this passed on,

22:48

they cannot pass it on. That is

22:50

doctor's code. So they're going to then,

22:52

what if anyone is a club doctor at an AFL

22:55

club, going to make them sign

22:57

a code that says that's void in this

22:59

club because it's not

23:01

void anywhere in life. And clearly doctors

23:03

have been maintaining that trust

23:05

and confidentiality in the AFL and we have

23:07

the utmost respect for them. Let's take a

23:10

listen to what Sam Mitchell said today, he

23:12

is one of those coaches who wants more

23:14

info. In the position I mean you're

23:16

really trying to make the best chances for

23:18

your players to be the best that they can

23:20

be and if you have the information that you

23:22

think will help you make the best

23:24

for them, it's really a big part of your

23:26

job as a senior coach. So whatever

23:28

information we have and we need to make the

23:31

players the best they can be, not just as

23:33

players but as people as well, I think that's

23:35

pretty important. We also take a listen to Ross

23:37

Lyon, Leroy, he wanted more data also. The

23:40

only piece would be statistically

23:43

whatever's occurring, probably

23:46

everyone would like to know we've got a policy,

23:48

it's a wellbeing, it's a medical policy. We're

23:50

not going to identify anyone but these

23:53

are the numbers and this is the success or failure

23:56

of the program. That's something

23:58

that would probably... put us

24:00

all at ease. So there's

24:02

some interesting opinions flying around.

24:04

Expect Luke Beverage to be strong on

24:06

it. He's pressed conferences tomorrow morning. There's

24:09

still hair testing that you do in

24:11

the immediate part of the first week

24:13

of pre-season training and that does get

24:15

de-identified but passed on as a number

24:17

to your coaches. So there's a decent

24:19

indication of what your playing group is

24:21

up to in their off-season. I know this is

24:23

different to in-season but you can draw a pretty

24:25

clear correlation between if you've got a dead

24:28

set group of ratbags or if you've got a

24:30

group that's gone away and behaved themselves. I

24:32

think my humble opinion is

24:35

for a young person and we're talking about

24:37

young people, it's a really tough

24:39

gig – I was young once, believe it or

24:41

not – to go up to an adult and

24:43

fess up to something like what we're talking about.

24:45

The fear that I see is that we've seen

24:48

it with some of the discussion during

24:50

the week, particularly with some of the legends of

24:52

our game, that some of these young people

24:54

are taking the PI double five out of

24:56

the system and just getting on with

24:58

their life. But that won't be all of them. That

25:01

won't be all of them. There may be a couple but

25:03

it won't be all of them. I think we've got to

25:05

be very careful because we don't want any

25:07

of these young people slipping through the cracks in

25:09

such a serious issue because they

25:11

are too afraid now to go to a doctor because

25:13

if it did go down that path well now the

25:16

coach is going to go about it and now someone

25:18

else is going to know about it and someone else.

25:20

So I'm not saying there's right or wrong in any

25:22

argument but we just have to be really, really careful

25:24

how we handle it. We're all getting older too. Sorry

25:26

Kate but we've got hindsight to reflect on all our

25:28

bad life decisions from the 18 to

25:31

25. When you're in that

25:33

space is highly paid, highly sought

25:36

after people giving you drink cards. Imagine

25:38

the life that anyone in the

25:40

general public would be leading and I know it's

25:42

supposed to be different but you don't have the

25:45

ability to self-reflect in those formative years. I've

25:47

had a number of coaches obviously in

25:49

my career, some of which I'd be

25:51

more than happy to sit down and have

25:53

conversations about this with and some which I

25:55

would absolutely not and I think

25:57

as a person that's my decision.

26:00

to make if I want to talk to

26:02

them about it or if I don't because

26:04

I feel like some were there for my

26:06

welfare and some weren't and that's

26:08

my decision as a player. And that

26:10

is where there will have to be nuance

26:12

in the policy to deal with those who

26:14

are taking the mickey and to otherwise deal

26:16

with those who have genuine problems. What else

26:19

is big news, Jay? We've spoken about this

26:21

to our hair can fall out or be

26:23

taken out and tested. What is... Yeah. Alan,

26:26

this is going on in the world of foot

26:28

here. Well, I tell you what, he's breaking news.

26:30

Craig McRae is one of his biggest selection calls

26:32

ever and that is leaving Jack Crisp out of

26:34

the 22. So the man who's

26:37

won two of the past three bests in

26:39

Ferris and I think have polled third in

26:41

the Gary Ayers medal for last finals.

26:43

He has remembered his grand final, his

26:45

whole September was absolutely enormous. He will

26:47

start tonight's game against Brisbane as the

26:49

substitute, which is quite the shock for

26:51

a very important player. He's been off,

26:54

he's been fumbling, he's scored involvements in

26:56

meter games at half, he's gone from

26:58

the midfield to the half back. Do

27:00

you like this call, Kate? I

27:02

think obviously they've made the call too

27:04

to manage steel side bottom as well.

27:06

So I think Craig McRae

27:08

is sort of trying to take a

27:11

fair bit of the heat off the younger players

27:13

that are in there and still finding their feet

27:15

this year who were thriving last year. And I

27:18

think that's sort of the precedent that he's trying to

27:20

set in this situation. He's also someone that is a

27:22

big impact player. So if they

27:24

lose someone early or if things need to

27:26

be thrown around, he can play anywhere essentially.

27:28

And that might be the thing that he

27:31

needs to get his mojo back to get

27:33

that aggressiveness out there as well. So

27:35

I think he's a good choice as a sub.

27:37

I know it is a harsh call and you're

27:39

correct. But I think if

27:41

that's the way he wants to go about it, it sets a

27:44

precedent and he's also someone can be injected in the game. The

27:47

other big watch tonight is Nick Dacos' position

27:49

because we'll see that Finn McRae and Tommy

27:51

Mitchell will both play tonight. So they're clearly

27:53

that on-baller type along with Scott Pendlebury. So

27:56

they're chocked with three on-ballers I think and

27:58

Jordan to go as well. in the middle,

28:00

that to me almost certainly sends Nick Dacos back

28:02

to the back flank. They've been turning the ball,

28:04

they've been butchering it in the back half days.

28:06

They've been making so many turnovers and critical errors

28:09

back there. Are you a fan of the move

28:11

potentially to send him back to a half bank

28:13

to try and slicken up that ball

28:15

use off half back? I'd be a fan of

28:17

putting him wherever he wants to go, even if

28:19

it is starting in the midfield then you roll

28:21

a forward up and he can just peruse that

28:23

back half. There's almost a quarterback setting them up.

28:25

The key will be when he's kicking the ball

28:27

in. If he goes every time Brisbane score a

28:29

point you get the ball in his hands,

28:31

look for that Collingwood offense to

28:34

really be injected because he has that ability

28:36

and we've seen it. When we

28:38

think about Brisbane Lions last year, Kadeen Coleman to

28:40

look one way here to target somewhere else and

28:42

that just sells the cues to

28:44

the defenders one way and then something else

28:46

happens and that's when you find these big

28:48

vast pockets of space. I think

28:50

it's the right move but again you can put him wherever you want,

28:53

he can kick goals. He's a superstar

28:55

for a reason. You can bet days if he takes

28:57

a kick in that's not the last possession he's having in

28:59

that chain of play either. The

29:01

little give and go certainly bolsters the

29:03

numbers. Another massive game Barry Denner for

29:05

your bombers on Saturday. Cut apart defensively

29:07

again Joey Montaña highlighted this beautifully in

29:10

AFL 360 last

29:12

night with some damning vision defensive efforts for the

29:14

bombers. It's been a port offensive team let's be

29:16

honest for the best part of ten years. It's

29:18

been the top priority for Brad Scott and certainly

29:20

having got that uplift to this point of the

29:23

new season I know there have been some

29:25

changes. Essendon been talking about the edge and

29:27

the toughness and the fear and the fear

29:30

that's at the contest. I just wonder whether

29:32

the public admission of this has backfired or

29:34

will backfired to some degree. Let's have a

29:36

listen to Rossline the coach of the St

29:39

Kilda side who has noted the big talk

29:41

coming out of Tullamarine. Everyone

29:43

wants to play a physical on-edge brand

29:45

and mental brand and

29:50

but we all know it's easier said than done. We all

29:52

like to get our teams to the line. We'd

29:55

like to think we stood up in a really fierce contest

29:57

with a lot of pressure on us last week. of

30:00

our confidence comes from action. We know what's coming,

30:02

it's going to be fierce but it's a challenge

30:04

we're up for. Should

30:06

Essen and Niv walk

30:08

the walk before they

30:10

talk the talk in this regard? You're the

30:12

fan base, you are also the man that

30:15

sees the game but as a pure fan

30:17

what's your take on that? Look if they

30:19

had have beaten the Swans it would

30:21

have been raved about that look at what they've done, they've come

30:23

out and said what they were going to do and they won

30:25

the four points. The problem is you don't win the four points

30:28

and then you end up with egg on your

30:30

face and everyone has a little shot at you

30:32

as paps and everyone and the players themselves and

30:35

those outsides. It would have been better I think

30:37

to keep it internal and perhaps just show it

30:39

physically out in the ground when you're out there and it's

30:42

pretty quick to pick up, you guys pick up pretty

30:44

quickly when you know a side's playing a fairly physical

30:46

brand of football maybe above them what they normally play

30:48

so yeah in hindsight it would have been better just

30:50

to keep it in here. So I wonder if it's

30:53

a master bit of coaching, put it

30:55

out there right, are you boys happy that I

30:57

go with this say we're going to play on

30:59

edge because if I do therefore for the rest

31:01

of the 20 rounds of this season home and

31:03

away you're now accountable, you're going to be held

31:05

accountable by us internally but also the media, the

31:07

public, your fans, if you don't bring that edge

31:09

every week that is the first thing that's going

31:11

to be written about you so there's a starting

31:13

point and if we go from there and we

31:16

bring it then we can provide some assistance, offence,

31:18

defence etc well maybe it could be a

31:20

differing point in how they go about the year. What

31:23

is toughness though? I didn't game

31:25

not much anymore not like when

31:27

I was playing. When Ross was sat next

31:29

to us on the Sunday rub when he

31:32

talked about toughness, he talked

31:34

about putting your head over the footy, he

31:36

talked about running into the last quarter, the

31:38

bravado and jumping into a player's back and

31:40

I know right is probably a different case

31:43

because he's not the aggressor anyway. I

31:46

categorise toughness as something different as opposed to

31:48

the pushing sharp. Physical intent though,

31:50

you can see that, you can see when like

31:52

a Sydney and you think of them over the

31:55

past probably decade or more, the same with the

31:57

cats, when you think about their brand it is

31:59

a hard physical at the bottom. ball at the

32:01

man the Hawks back when they

32:03

were in their great era it was hard it was

32:05

tough it was very fair but it was ferocious intent

32:08

of ball and man. Yeah good chat

32:10

just keep your eye on the bombers on Saturday night.

32:14

For Reem Hot Water in McDonald's Triple M rocks

32:16

40. Oh yes. Yes the Triple M Thursday

32:23

rub for Thursday camel yes

32:25

Daisy Thomas and Kate McCarthy Jay

32:27

Z Clark absolutely on fire. It's

32:30

time for the Triple M CBO Super weekend prediction

32:32

CBO Super making hard work payoff since 1984 and

32:35

I'll throw in an early

32:39

one I reckon I'll be due for a couple

32:41

of sherbits after this game responsibly

32:43

of course Jay Z

32:45

you want to kick us off? Yeah look

32:48

great the greatest of respect to North Melbourne's

32:50

back one and Toby Pink did do a

32:52

very good job last week against the Fremantle

32:54

forwards including Joe Amos. I think he was

32:56

on my Statless the halftime I do feel

32:58

like Charlie Kurnow is going to absolutely fill

33:00

his boots on the Good Friday clash hopefully

33:02

it is a competitive game but I'll be

33:05

shocked if the Coleman medalist doesn't have at

33:07

least six he's kicked plenty

33:09

against the Kangaroos in his last two meetings over

33:11

the last two games so I'm

33:14

thinking a big six for Charles. Well

33:16

same token for me I think the Hawks will

33:18

be better this week they will be better than

33:20

they were last week but I don't see anyone

33:22

taking care of the big Tomahawk I think he's

33:24

going to kick four plus on

33:26

the weekend so I think he'll be up

33:28

and about I just don't see a matchup

33:31

for him deep and if they get the clearances I

33:33

don't think they'll be as bad center clearance as they

33:35

were last week Hawthorne but they get anywhere near the

33:37

center clearance that they got Geelong I

33:40

think it'll come into Tomahawk and he'll kick a

33:42

few for sure. I'm going

33:44

across to the Saturday night fixture I believe it

33:47

is the Dockers taking on the crows and we've

33:49

just welcomed our South Australian audience so you will

33:51

be up and about with this I think

33:53

the crows go in there as heavy outsiders and

33:55

I think they can beat the Dockers they'll

33:57

get their season back on track there's been little

34:00

trends in the last quarters of their last two

34:02

games, I'm liking what I'm starting to see. They'll

34:04

be able to produce it for longer on a

34:06

big ground and the crows will get a nice

34:08

winter kickstart their year. I'll tell you what, you

34:10

mentioned Tommy Hawkins, 350 this weekend, he's eyeing off

34:12

800 goals. It's funny when a career

34:17

is going on but as it gets

34:19

closer to anything, cheapest. He's had an

34:22

amazing amazing career. And that's the other

34:24

reason I think he'll kick a few is because

34:26

late in the game if they've got a win

34:28

or comfortably in front, they'll be looking to kick

34:30

it to him to get him a few celebrations,

34:32

snags in his 350th for sure. Yeah

34:35

they'll have a fair chance of that too. The last

34:37

halves in their last couple of games have given up

34:39

10 goals two to Essendon and eight goals four against

34:42

the D. So there'll be a big chance for him

34:44

to fill his bird. So you just gotta love the

34:46

way he goes about it though. Three or four years

34:48

ago just before COVID I think it was, people were

34:50

questioning whether he was good enough to be in the

34:52

side or if he was just holding down a spot

34:55

since then and obviously the games have gotten longer as well

34:57

but the contribution he's making still and

34:59

the focal point up forward. He'd be first picked

35:02

in every side. You go in with a three

35:04

or four goal head start every time he's on

35:06

the park. Jay-Z I think the

35:08

teams have come in for the rest of

35:10

the weekend's round of football throughout Easter. Any

35:12

surprises? Yeah some big changes. So for the

35:14

Blues we just mentioned that game against North

35:16

Melbourne the good Friday clash. Stronger

35:19

down back Carlton. Some Marchbank and

35:21

Weetering comes in. Elijah Holland's also

35:23

from Gold Coast out. Young, Kemp

35:25

and Cunningham. So really solid down back.

35:27

The Blues Essen and St Kilda. For

35:29

the Bombers some big ins. Redmond, Parrish

35:31

and Jake Kelly come in. Out Sardis

35:33

right with that suspension of course and

35:36

Young. Davey for St Kilda, Butler

35:38

and Kameneti. Young Angus Hasty come

35:40

in. Out King Henry and Mason

35:42

Wood who's busted his collarbone in

35:44

that heavy collision against Collingwood.

35:46

Melbourne versus Port Adelaide. The good news is

35:49

Clayton Oliver will play despite dislocating

35:51

his finger at training yesterday. He was seen

35:53

wearing a bit of a handguard today. Not

35:55

sure whether he will take that out into the field. It could be

35:58

an option for him in that one against Port Adelaide. Steve

36:00

May we know will be out with that

36:03

broken rib. Melwood confident he will only

36:05

miss one, but Jake Lever has been

36:07

named. So the D's still pretty strong

36:10

despite some injury issues. Hey, just quickly on

36:12

the Hawks, the racism scandal, which has played

36:14

the game for the past 18 months,

36:18

some hope that late yesterday, so late

36:20

into the night yesterday, there was

36:22

potentially some movement around that.

36:24

The parties have now 60 days,

36:27

essentially. We know the Hawthorne former

36:29

players who are unhappy about their

36:31

treatment and three senior key former

36:33

Hawthorne officials in Chris Feig and

36:35

Alistair Clerksen and Jason Burd of

36:38

course, will have

36:40

now 60 days to try and come

36:42

to some sort of a conciliatory agreement

36:45

where they can find some middle ground or

36:47

peace over that issue. If they can't over

36:49

the next two months, then it's headed to

36:51

the federal court. And I'm not sure anyone

36:54

wants that, but late yesterday, potentially some small

36:56

movement, but still a lot of water to

36:58

flow under that bridge. Day one, I believe,

37:01

wasn't a lot of movement. Yes,

37:03

it seemed obviously, and

37:05

for obvious reasons, it seemed

37:08

quite tense yesterday, Jay.

37:11

Yeah, I mean, clearly it's been a

37:13

really tough time for everyone involved. I

37:15

feel, I think we all feel empathy

37:17

for largely all the

37:19

people involved. So Alistair Clerksen and Chris

37:21

Feig. And I interviewed Chris Feig in

37:24

September last year. We spoke for two

37:26

hours involving this matter. And

37:29

at one stage, he was crying. That's

37:31

how moved and hurt. And he

37:33

was by it. He said he was bewildered

37:35

and shocked, stunned by the allegations. And

37:38

he's a man with one of the

37:40

best reputations in the game over 30 years.

37:42

So it has rocked him to the core,

37:44

these allegations. But he says that

37:46

when his head hits the pillow at

37:48

night, he sleeps comfortably about what happened

37:51

back in the day. But obviously, they

37:53

are very serious allegations. And we hope

37:55

everyone finds the resolution thereafter. Absolutely.

37:57

I Think that sums it up perfectly, Jay-Z. Hope

38:00

Will doesn't get to that next stage.

38:02

42:00

productive and our boys came back

42:02

with a great determination to attack

42:05

pre-season in a really strong manner.

42:08

We thought we had done that. You

42:10

know, parts of this first two games

42:12

showed that we had a really good

42:14

pre-season. We've just had a few little

42:17

lapses that have been costly. So hopefully

42:19

tonight we put a four quarter performance

42:21

together and we're well aware of

42:23

the areas of the game that we need to nail

42:26

against the Pies. Certainly one of the

42:28

strengths of the Pies is the superstar in Nick

42:30

Dacos, expected to get across halfback. How much

42:32

planning have you done in and around that,

42:34

Kenneth? Yeah, we are aware that he's a

42:36

dangerous player wherever he plays and the drive

42:39

that he can give him regardless

42:41

of where he plays. So we need to make

42:43

sure that we limit his, particularly the outside ball

42:45

that he wins. His

42:47

humble receives and his overlap,

42:50

he's a really threatening player

42:52

and along with Pendlebree they can

42:54

give him pretty good drive. We expect one of

42:56

them to play halfback tonight. I

42:58

am having a look through the binoculars here. This

43:00

is a two-part question. One, how good has the

43:02

suntan been for the top of the bons? And

43:05

two, is that turtle wax on it? Well,

43:08

it's shibbery. You know, players

43:10

get the performance cut

43:12

pre-game. I went and got a

43:14

bit of a reverse fade tonight,

43:16

just the melon to be glowing.

43:20

Look, it's, yeah, you've got to make the most

43:22

of it, mate. Hey, how are those chompers of

43:24

yours going? Are they all good? They're all good.

43:27

They're shiny. They're not quite as shiny as your forehead. I

43:30

reckon between us we might blind someone tonight. Yes,

43:32

they're the same as that sun help. Hey

43:35

Cam, it's been a different potentially tricky week

43:37

for Chris Fagan. Obviously, we'll have a motion

43:39

around his date in the Human Rights Commission,

43:41

seeing the former Hall of Form players. He

43:43

obviously, what did he conduct? Training

43:46

wasn't at the football club yesterday,

43:48

the day before yesterday, obviously. How

43:52

has it been, how is he, you've

43:54

obviously got right around him, how has he coped with

43:56

it all? Yeah, he's been really composed,

43:58

he's obviously been dealing with it for a long time. time and is

44:01

looking after itself. So

44:04

he trusts and like most senior

44:06

coaches, you know, have that great

44:08

confidence in their assistant coaches to

44:10

be able to run the program

44:12

if and when they are

44:14

unavailable to attend and we did that, we had

44:16

a really good session on Tuesday and

44:19

he's passed into the fold with a

44:21

great meeting and he's fired up certainly

44:24

for a really strong performance and it's got the boys

44:26

wound up, that's for sure. And Cam, you've

44:28

been up there for a couple of years now in

44:30

Brizzy, as a Brizzy girl myself, how much are you

44:32

loving it? It's so much better than Melbourne, isn't it? Yeah,

44:36

the local family has certainly prioritised

44:38

and we do love it. We've

44:40

actually got the place down in Melbourne on

44:42

the market so it's

44:44

pretty hard to see us

44:48

getting back to Melbourne anytime soon. We certainly

44:50

do love it. The kids love

44:52

the lifestyle, the family love the lifestyle, there's great

44:54

people up here so yeah, we're really enjoying it.

44:57

Hey Cam, before we let you go, we know

44:59

you've spent a bit of time at Carlton with

45:01

our man Daisy. Of course he's got

45:03

the big fight coming up against Dane Swan. I spoke to

45:05

him in the car on the way here. He said, Baz,

45:07

I'm not just going to beat him, I'm going to humiliate

45:09

him. What are your thoughts on how he's going to go?

45:12

Well prior to getting his teeth done, I would have thought

45:15

he would have been all in but I

45:17

reckon you might be a little bit concerned about getting a

45:19

little smack there so I hope he doesn't

45:21

over protect that without

45:24

protecting everywhere else. Look,

45:26

I know Daisy's got

45:28

some real toughness in

45:30

him and I'm just

45:32

worried that they're good

45:34

mates and they're genuinely going to

45:37

give it everything they've got. Yeah, get

45:39

on your camera, I think that's it, Dave, are you going

45:41

to give it anything you got? Oh

45:43

yeah, no we're going to go healthily. There we

45:45

go. I did just jump on realestate.com,

45:47

I tell you what, seven and a half million of

45:49

us have come nice up here. That

45:51

is a hard mic goodness. Well

45:54

maybe you've got some spare coin and vinyl around

45:56

here and you'd be able to buy it all.

45:59

Not after the jumpers. I'm going to freak off

46:01

there, how much for cash? Well

46:03

I have my best, good luck tonight Cameron. Cameron

46:05

Bruce, just in case the Brisbane Lions. Daisy, just

46:07

before we let you go, Tages, you got a

46:09

bit of news? Yeah, they're in an interesting spot,

46:12

isn't it? Much intrigued about what they've got to

46:14

do with their list obviously after that magnificent Premiership

46:16

three-peat. They tried, well they've gained Timmy Taranto and

46:18

Jacob Hopper, he's been out with a bit of

46:20

a knee issue. But

46:22

now fears about the no man's land being

46:25

stuck in a bit of a middle

46:27

ground. So all eyes on Liam Baker,

46:29

he's been chased by West Coast and

46:32

Fremantle, very versatile, hard player. The

46:35

Dockers and Eagles are very keen to lure

46:37

him home. So Richmond are going to have a

46:39

decision there, do they need to keep him as a prime

46:42

sort of player in

46:44

their ability to go forward? Or do they look

46:46

to get a top 20 draft pick potentially for

46:48

him? Jack Graham is the

46:50

other one, he's a free agent holding off

46:52

on contract talks for now. So they'll face

46:55

interesting crossroads for Richmond, what they do with

46:57

Baker and Graham, do they keep him for

46:59

the next couple of years? Do

47:01

they look to get some more draft capital?

47:03

Because they've only had one top 15 pick

47:05

other than Josh Gibson in the past eight years. So

47:08

it is going to be an interesting spot for the

47:10

Tigers. They prepare to take on the best team in the

47:13

competition at the moment in Sydney. Superb

47:15

from you again tonight, Jay Z. You'll be doing your

47:17

usual, heading into the back streets and other ways around

47:19

town tonight. All a bend. Thank you very much. Kate

47:23

47:27
