1:13

to True Crime Daily the podcast

1:15

covering high profile and under the

1:17

radar cases from across the country

1:19

every week. I'm your host and

1:21

Garcia. This is our three hundredth

1:23

episode and we wanted to do

1:25

something really special. We are devoting

1:27

this episode to crimes the don't.

1:30

Get a lot of attention. Crimes

1:32

against Animals and those who seek

1:34

justice on their behalf are cases

1:36

this week. Both made national headlines

1:38

for the extreme and violent way

1:41

each dog was stolen in Ventura

1:43

County just north of Los Angeles.

1:45

So beautiful female German shepherd named

1:47

pretty girl was stolen from an

1:49

animal rescue facility and it was

1:52

all caught on surveillance. A man

1:54

broke in and took her. She

1:56

didn't wanna go willingly. She fought

1:58

her attacker. the. Whole time he

2:01

dragged her by the collar. Hours

2:03

later she was found dying on the side of

2:05

the freeway. Pretty girl did not

2:08

survive. An outraged community

2:10

demanded justice and ultimately the

2:12

man responsible was convicted and

2:14

sentenced to jail time. The

2:16

rescue that saved. Pretty girl will

2:18

be joining us. but first. The

2:20

video that went viral of a woman

2:23

in Los Angeles holding onto the hood

2:25

of a speeding car in an attempt

2:27

to stop the people who kidnapped her

2:30

dogs. A black and white male French

2:32

bulldog named Onyx, the owner, held on

2:34

to the car for as long as

2:37

she could until the dog mappers. Swerve

2:39

the car and she was

2:41

thrown off. We

2:43

are recording this on Valentine's

2:45

Day, February. Fourteenth of twenty Twenty

2:48

Four or guess today's loose belong. Yes,

2:50

a former homicide investigators with more than

2:52

three years of law enforcement experience, he

2:55

runs his own private investigation from called

2:57

Get Fit. Any volunteers a big

2:59

part of his time to help victims and

3:01

survivors of crime. He is one of our

3:04

favorites. One of your favorites! a dear friend

3:06

of mine's Welcome back Louis! It is such.

3:08

A pleasure to have you on the program

3:10

again. How are you? I can agree

3:13

to see you again and due to undo

3:15

law. Thank you so much! I feel very

3:17

honored and privilege to be part of the

3:19

special episode. so thank you thank you for

3:22

including me. Three

3:24

Hundred and I just wanna say I'm

3:26

A to get to Three Hundred is

3:28

an amazing accomplishment but I know why

3:30

in it because I have a unique

3:32

view of what happens behind the scenes

3:34

and I've personally seen in witnessed. Sadly

3:37

the work and passion you put into

3:39

these investigations are with a gold moving

3:41

helping me justice. In the right direction and

3:43

and really supposed to simply doing the right

3:45

thing. It's a privilege to be part of

3:48

that and work with you on any to

3:50

split on. And so after for Unity City

3:52

Family Thank you! Ah! Thank you Lose

3:54

I so appreciate his arm or

3:56

regular listeners. And viewers know that you

3:58

are a personal friend of mine, that we

4:00

work on cases together. And I

4:02

had the great privilege of seeing you

4:04

over the weekend in Seattle and spending

4:06

some time with you. And we're actually

4:08

talking about this case and prepping for

4:11

this case. Of course, Mcgillis never just

4:13

like having lunch together as will reduce.

4:15

The reason we wanted to do this

4:17

as. A special episode is of

4:19

course we feel strongly about any

4:22

crimes committed against. All. Of

4:24

the vulnerable. Animals and people.

4:26

But Lewis and I am.

4:29

You. Know we we both

4:31

had rescue dogs. We

4:33

both lost our. Precious.

4:36

For. Babies are animals, are family

4:38

members within a month of each

4:40

other, and. I'm We've both been

4:42

sad and grieving that. Loss.

4:46

So. I think when we

4:48

see cases where people. Hurt

4:50

these animals is just hurts us

4:52

that much more. Him

4:55

as absolutely elope we we will have

4:57

been a voice where the voices of

4:59

in animals or to the poster for.

5:02

The voiceless to can tell you what's going

5:05

on used to be observant them and was

5:07

only happens to help them get justice and

5:09

like that in this part of the journey

5:11

world today. Yeah. And also

5:13

for those of you. And he

5:15

didn't see know who are regular listeners you

5:17

would know that's bit. The secret life of

5:20

Loose Belong Years is fascinating. There's always a

5:22

story to share in you. Yourself have

5:24

investigated animal cruelty cases. I

5:27

have. I have the been so I

5:29

think is as good fit or and

5:32

I wanted to you but to quit

5:34

cases ethical tie into what we're talking

5:36

about. But in my early patrol years

5:39

one of the cases I had my

5:41

first year working on a Good Show

5:43

rally in near Palm Springs, California. I

5:46

went to place her family had reported

5:48

the dog stolen and this wasn't a

5:50

very ill unincorporated area. very rough area

5:53

know it When I contacted family the

5:55

told the story. Know the but that's

5:57

how they went on. Risk.

6:00

The their German shepherd who was a

6:02

two year old female and the kids.

6:04

It was a Christmas present from Dad

6:06

to the family. And. Three kids.

6:08

And. They loved this.just love this dog.

6:11

This damage we all get that break

6:13

this dogs more than a dog more

6:15

the now the Starbucks family. The dog

6:18

was. Stolen. From up someone

6:20

when the the backyard and stole the

6:22

dog. So long story short it things

6:24

kept falling into place on that day

6:26

and call. I went from neighbor to

6:28

neighbor to neighbors neighbors neighbors and fallen

6:30

leaves or. And. Eight hours

6:33

I smell mad dogs and brought that

6:35

dog back to the owners and to

6:37

this day I remember how happy those

6:39

kids were in the family and eight

6:41

and because he really thought they were

6:43

never see the doggie and the reason

6:45

I'm telling you the story happy ending

6:48

that they don't alter or altered all

6:50

at that. But when I went back

6:52

to the station that the under my

6:54

duty day by sergeant called me in

6:56

his office see lambasted. Mickey roasted me

6:58

and he was very unhappy that I

7:00

spent the entire day looking for. A

7:02

dog. And

7:05

they know that resonated with me because I thought,

7:07

all right, I'll

7:09

do it again or know why they get

7:11

you really changed my mind. early game if

7:13

they're pretty sure we're about. but that feeling

7:16

that he represented to me that these something

7:18

is still. Happening in law

7:20

enforcement today. many places movie

7:22

had a year later so.

7:25

I. Get a call. Up. Dogs.

7:28

That were found. Dead.

7:32

I'm near their owner's house bitter and

7:34

a crosswalk have given super short version

7:36

here but I go to this call

7:39

and with some other officers as well

7:41

seasoned officers Ouseley on deputy and was

7:43

pretty obvious we determined that these dogs

7:46

had been hit by a car because

7:48

both are next were broken the over

7:50

in the streets and killed instantly. We

7:53

went back to the owners who happened

7:55

to be. Major A Listers in

7:57

Hollywood that a big Sean at that.

8:00

The massive show and they insisted

8:02

that the dogs were poisoned and

8:04

stolen out your back yard and

8:06

killed and input into the crosswalk

8:08

been said they wouldn't let it

8:10

go on. The wanted to speak

8:12

to my supervisor to there was

8:14

nothing indicate that in the sack

8:16

we found of America to was

8:18

open to the supervisor sosa and

8:20

does have a discussion with is

8:22

a Listers and decision is made

8:24

by the supervisor to roll the

8:26

entire forensics team and treat this

8:28

as this was a homicide. Of a

8:30

human. Arm.

8:33

And as I gotta tell you, Brits and

8:35

eight is he out! Also was instructed to

8:37

sprinkle a fingerprint. Printout: Are everywhere

8:40

and he called it Pr Dust.

8:42

I'm Justin Sister yeah and so

8:44

I mean is both extremes were

8:46

nothing's done. If something good happens,

8:48

even you still get lambasted for

8:50

wasting your time on an animal

8:53

to. These. People were a special,

8:55

the street their case different than you would

8:57

anybody else. so I think we still have

8:59

that spectrum. A full spectrum to today's arm

9:01

and I'm hoping we'd been home without in

9:03

the right direction also. but it's always been

9:05

a problem is Stuart when I think it's

9:08

going to continue to be an issue, it's

9:10

just not a case had depends. On

9:12

their list here from variety of reasons

9:15

and know you get that. but where

9:17

is the perfect balance? Yeah. And

9:19

these two cases did get

9:21

police a ten cents. One,

9:24

There's been an arrest. The

9:26

other one. There's been a prosecution

9:28

and a sentencing. So these are

9:30

cases in which law enforcement took

9:33

these these animal cruelty cases quite

9:35

seriously. When. You

9:38

love someone you for attack them

9:40

the best ways that you can.

Learn more at Meaningful beauty.com. Our

12:24

first case is out of Los Angeles

12:26

and it has shocked everyone that has

12:28

seen the video of the woman clinging

12:31

on to the hood of a car

12:33

in an attempt to stop the people

12:35

who stole. Her dog the

12:37

driver swerved and through the

12:39

woman off the car. Thank

12:41

god she was not seriously

12:44

injured. The crime occurred on

12:46

January eighteenth. When Alley Zacharias

12:48

was on a lunch break

12:50

suis at Whole Foods with

12:52

her friend Si Onyx. A

12:54

year old male whose theory

12:56

unique looking spotted with multiple

12:58

colors, different colored eyes. A

13:00

woman took the dog started

13:03

walking away with him. Got.

13:05

Into a car with other people

13:07

that's an alley. realize. You

13:10

know this is a really serious thing. This isn't

13:12

a joke, this is really happening. So she says

13:14

she stood. In front of a car to

13:16

try and stop the driver from going forward.

13:18

but instead the driver went through her and

13:20

she. Hung on to the

13:22

hood of the car and loose

13:25

despite her best efforts. The. Thieves

13:27

got away and got away with Onyx.

13:30

You know we sure did and

13:32

on still missing to this day

13:34

I'm in all it's incredible Foot

13:36

It is very powerful and a

13:39

good to to watch Ali who

13:41

meters really jump to their car

13:43

com to protect her loved one,

13:46

her dog. I get it, I

13:48

completely get it on you know,

13:50

like. It. You know whether is

13:52

the best decision or not. I don't know

13:55

remember either. The I don't think it's something

13:57

that I can say wouldn't do I get

13:59

the passions. Your family member and I'm

14:01

going into everything I can. He keep

14:03

my dog from leaving within that suspects

14:05

at home because is a very good

14:08

chance you'll never see the dog again.

14:10

But to beauty about Onyx Cassette such

14:12

a unique looking dog so you need

14:14

and that's probably the best Full blown

14:16

of the best ones to bringing their

14:18

dog back to alley the owner in

14:21

that little hoping that we can push

14:23

in that direction. Yeah, there's

14:25

also been an arrest in this case. Since

14:27

this happened, it's been a month that Onyx

14:29

has been missing Spend a lot of things

14:31

have happened. In this case and

14:33

you know the one person we

14:35

all wanna talk to his alley

14:38

Zacharias A means to hear from

14:40

her. This experience, the agony, the

14:42

trauma of having your dog taken

14:45

I can't even imagine. We

14:48

now have alley with us. Alley.

14:50

I'm so sorry for what has

14:52

happened to. You has happened

14:54

Onyx. How are

14:56

you doing? It's

14:59

hard. I mean are struggling a little

15:01

bit and I am. And

15:03

trying to figure out how to stay

15:05

strong does? I'm just frustrated. I want

15:07

him back already has them month and

15:09

as. Dragging. On. So.

15:12

At this point the only thing that I

15:14

to figure out to do as we started

15:17

at foundation called don't Take My dog.com because

15:19

we want to help other people because it

15:21

is becoming a i'm a problem and civil

15:23

are stealing dogs and they want to have

15:26

some sort of resources so we have a

15:28

lot of like different as asked us to

15:30

the site we're going to have a D

15:32

p I a private investigators in on the

15:34

say to help actually like recover the dog

15:37

and we won an. Have

15:39

these pictures of all Solon dogs off

15:41

with the amount as a as a

15:43

the missing and saidu I'm. Asked.

15:46

The other people what they would do to

15:48

so what would what would you do for.

15:50

Your dog on. And.

15:53

Does make it a great resource for people

15:55

to try and recover. the soul and dogs

15:57

are they don't get forgotten because. It

16:00

really is terrible. It's is such a bad feeling as

16:02

elite the I can do to like get through this

16:04

time right now. So

16:06

Elliott, I feel like you are

16:08

traumatised several times. First there is

16:10

the taking of your dog, a

16:12

member of your family. And then

16:14

there is this video that shows.

16:16

You hanging on in? Such

16:19

a fierce manner. Honestly, it's the most

16:21

sought. One of the most shocking things

16:23

I've seen. Alley were

16:25

you not terrified at this moment?

16:28

I was terrified, but I wasn't thinking

16:30

currently. I wasn't thinking through it

16:32

the way you're thinking about a you're just

16:34

going with this moment. It's as if I

16:36

had plans to do this I would have

16:38

never played institute that if I thought through

16:40

it had a moment to think through it

16:42

I probably would have been have gotten off

16:44

the part where it's of offer tried his

16:47

roll off. I don't know if this happens

16:49

as it is. But. The

16:51

video saves me because

16:53

visit This happens. And.

16:55

I didn't have any would explain a city boy. I

16:57

tell people you know. I was on

17:00

the side and they said okay we're

17:02

so sorry that sounds terrible but no

17:04

one understood of was a week with

17:06

us.in oh sorry but of flyers not

17:08

having any press or anything like that

17:11

and then suddenly this video came out

17:13

and it changed. Everything has. It.

17:15

Is impactful. People couldn't believe that thread

17:17

memorizers on the hood of a car

17:19

Her: So really people were not believing

17:21

you. Did the police believe you when

17:23

you call them afloat? The video. A

17:26

I don't think they understood. It said that

17:28

I was on the part isn't. Amazing!

17:31

That video changed everything. Lose Don't

17:33

you believe you know? We

17:35

have some thoughts about how the police.

17:39

Why? And why the police the

17:41

Lapd has has stepped. Up here and

17:43

and so far even me than the rest. When you

17:45

think louis. Shall. I I I

17:47

think the alley how did I do you

17:49

feel insecure read same roof of illness and

17:51

in previous interviews he dumps. But to do

17:53

the media motivated law enforcement an old yes.

17:55

Yes, that's why I'm so thankful for

17:58

this press. the says it's. That

18:00

really lit a fire under

18:02

the police and. Detective.

18:05

Ramirez said to me, this is the

18:07

only case I'm working on and he's

18:09

really I'm trying to focus on it

18:12

And fortunately I learned as. Is.

18:14

A lot of protocol that the police have to go

18:16

through in order to get anything done. they have to

18:18

guess. Ill at a judge to sign off on

18:20

the you know the sir. Stay up to have everything

18:22

else if you. Like. Legally Dion

18:24

and is a slowing down the process of sensibly

18:27

was I. I don't know how you can solve

18:29

a case with all this. Protocol. Yeah,

18:32

there are a lot of layers. Bill.

18:34

For the own group and side of

18:37

it sooner mean it's a small incision.

18:39

Circumstance of them leaves are happening right

18:41

now. They can become a doormat for

18:43

them to have the parallel. that's the

18:46

same time with code done, their eyes

18:48

closed and the to use getting search

18:50

warrants, arrest warrants when it's appropriate. There's

18:52

Mrs. Balance there, but it really should

18:55

interfere with. It. Was we

18:57

had a phone call You see your dog

18:59

is or or right now you should be

19:01

on going to secure that sea ray on

19:03

the table is been obtained since make sure

19:06

you do everything right enough to maintain your

19:08

does He wanted to stick my does he

19:10

do make an apprehension and this the I

19:12

have to ask that you recognize the Smooth

19:14

Slater the suspect those arrested in this and

19:17

I played as do the on. I.

19:19

Actually, I'm. The. Picture out

19:21

of line up. There was a photo

19:23

lineup that I went and did before

19:25

they went. To arrest said they wanted to be sore.

19:28

Blimey. Just clarify this. For anyone

19:30

who was saying, let's let's be

19:32

very clear here. The Lapd made

19:34

an arrest on February second. they

19:36

arrested twenty one year old Saidi

19:39

Slater. Internet's and with this crime

19:41

she was books on suspicion of robbery.

19:43

Fail was set at seventy thousand C

19:45

posted bond. We do not know she

19:47

has entered a plea. Yeah, we don't

19:49

know she's have that hearings. But

19:51

remember, presumed innocent until

19:54

proven guilty. So. C

19:57

is. A. Suspect in this case,

19:59

she has. Arrested. And

20:01

but we we have to be

20:03

very clear here that she is

20:05

innocent until proven guilty and again

20:07

has an opportunity to speak. Now.

20:11

Please. Go on. It and discuss what

20:13

you were discussing with Moonlight you brought

20:15

a a sudden though they reminded me

20:17

and in the early. Maybe you can

20:19

answer this but I also read the

20:21

the press release was put on my

20:23

Lgbt who's done in conjunction with the

20:25

Us Marshals and Us Marshals typically only

20:27

get involved. One of their many functions

20:29

is to apprehend fugitives at large are

20:31

trying to figure out why they're involved

20:33

in a dog yapping case. Do you

20:35

know the answer to that on. Listen.

20:38

I have no idea why I've done this

20:41

less press or have. Gone viral or

20:43

gotten. The Us Marshal to look for

20:45

my dog but as far as I'm

20:47

concerned this is then sought Nice is

20:49

it is. It's if you orgasm the

20:51

soul and I've definitely gotten the best.

20:54

Of all the different aspects of try

20:56

to recover him. It's really amazing. Up

20:59

before we go on to some other

21:01

details here, I kind of wanna hear

21:03

from You Alley I described. In our

21:05

just a summary as to what the

21:07

experience was. that can you tell us

21:09

how this all unfold and and and

21:11

what you saw what was happening. Because

21:14

here's the thing you know when someone like

21:16

takes her dog. That I'm Molson to your

21:18

interviews and rent for common. Sense it's

21:20

At first it seemed like. I

21:23

don't know. She took the lease right?

21:25

The that? a woman A woman here

21:27

to the lease and took your dog

21:29

and. You're. Like wait a minute. Yeah

21:32

I mean. That's pretty

21:34

much the story I guess right now I

21:36

just can't believe that those moments before. Were

21:38

my last moments with Hanley Gun? And.

21:41

So sassy healing I didn't. whereas. Sought.

21:43

The A Whole Foods for once was I

21:46

certainly. Had. No idea what was

21:48

in store. Around the corner. it's so

21:50

strange to think that that was all about to

21:52

happen. On. We're.

21:55

Eating lives there. We're Jehovah's Witnesses there

21:57

They were saying oh he's so cute.

22:00

Hickey is even picky with the

22:02

nipples. He's like scientists decides he

22:04

wants them or not and he

22:06

was. So. Sweet and.

22:10

I. Was his plan on going home as hims

22:12

a park and going home. I had no idea

22:14

that. Anything was going on.

22:16

These people at the same time on eating

22:18

their like probably waiting out their license plate

22:21

and like making plans at home around the

22:23

corner and grab an. And.

22:27

That's is what happens. I mean, I

22:29

have. Ah, I. Have

22:31

lots turtles and I have always sought to like.

22:34

When they get missing is easily some. he picks

22:36

them up to science, find the owner and so

22:38

my instinct was to think like oh you're just

22:40

looking for the owner of because I let let's

22:42

he pulled on the lease or let go at

22:45

it all happen within one minutes he pulled on

22:47

the lease. I let go of it. And.

22:49

I see a woman by sale at carrying

22:52

them off, so it was all sort of

22:54

like in one motion. And

22:56

it in my mind it was like

22:58

oh did you know he's with me

23:01

is is my dogs just as hot

23:03

as misunderstanding but in the hands on

23:05

she didn't listen. And the weather Jehovah's

23:07

Witnesses yells that's not your dog and

23:09

see this. Sort. Of shit

23:11

a straight face on. She just wasn't

23:14

making any facial expressions. She has a

23:16

dog awkwardly dangling under her arms holding

23:18

him from like under his. Arm.

23:20

Front arms who's as dangling straight

23:22

down as she just quarter like

23:25

it's been backwards and got right

23:27

into this car with. She

23:29

was in the back seat behind the. Driver:

23:32

So. I

23:35

disliked by as I said or even

23:37

though they cited so complicated this my

23:39

base the ice succeed she passes the

23:42

dogs has some the l sitting on

23:44

the back seat and. The.

23:48

That. I certainly go in after him but

23:50

she clearly block the out and I realize

23:52

that there are four people in the car.

23:54

The wasn't much room sites it was is

23:57

very tight and. I

23:59

didn't know them. Freeze. I didn't live.

24:02

In general you gonna motors asserts be and

24:04

like actions are fighting somebody or like yelling

24:06

mean things or like hitting them were grabbing

24:08

things years as they deliver more polite as

24:10

a human and as world is that against

24:12

it was and as I can think back

24:14

I wish I was like grabbing and fighting

24:17

and hitting and I was I was. Styles.

24:19

Of the seen as an awesome movie like a

24:22

wasn't like that I was You're totally caught off

24:24

guard and mean. Yeah. And

24:26

as it's like it's unfolding in your

24:28

brain is not reconciling what's going on

24:30

as like is the some misunderstandings. Did

24:32

she think that the dog was lost

24:34

like that? You're thinking you know best

24:36

intentions, not worth intentions like. Hold

24:38

on a second. Bits that target the

24:40

leash was someone grabbing my dog gal

24:43

and running away with it's and again

24:45

happening literally within seconds. it it doesn't

24:47

give any one. I mean I don't

24:49

think that that's what I would have

24:51

thought was happening and but he realized

24:53

that once they got in that car

24:55

then you your brain flipped and you're

24:57

like know you're not leaving with my

24:59

dog And that's the amazing thing is

25:01

that moment that you. Just it

25:03

was limited use. The word logs

25:05

the minute the doors locked. and

25:08

i realized the night with other side of

25:10

is locked door or the my dog within

25:12

their a nice existence as moment of the

25:14

vulnerability. Like. I. Can't reach

25:16

him anymore. his at a different space than me

25:18

like as he locked in. Alley.

25:20

When you stood in front of the

25:22

car he he you're more innocent part

25:25

of the brain. probably set film. never

25:27

will. I'm old enough. That

25:29

will solve them. Standing there is enough to

25:31

stop a car. I.

25:34

Did not have any idea either. Of us to drive into

25:36

made. Ah, Once

25:38

a job in to me and I was on a high as it. I

25:41

just like felt like a don't leave. I

25:43

just felt he could stay with me. I

25:46

disease by dog nearby like he was still

25:48

so close at that point I was so

25:50

far from them but so close like I

25:52

was still lost. You know well honestly the

25:54

beginning I try to break the hood open

25:56

like I took like one like knock at

25:58

the at the windshield. And it was

26:00

so heavy as it sure was like of I

26:03

don't another one like obviously I was going to

26:05

break through. It's with i've talk to people now

26:07

have learned that you can break when shows you

26:09

have to sort of the go around the whole

26:11

thing. And. Knock his. I've heard

26:13

there are like six to breaking loose

26:15

hills and and mass. I didn't know

26:18

I didn't know that has it's but

26:20

oh my god. So of the things

26:22

like time break and li I was

26:24

still trying to get to my dog

26:26

on. I. Don't even

26:28

know what I was thinking. I don't know what is that He now.

26:30

He knows everybody's looking for him. Goodness

26:32

so at. So I read that

26:34

the driver actually tried to hit

26:37

the brakes to see if. It's

26:39

the driver could push you off and that didn't

26:41

work. Know, I think that's how

26:43

I ultimately got me off. I mean that ultimately

26:46

it's I think he slowed down a little bit

26:48

more than you seen the video or I would

26:50

have been more heard on. He must have slowed

26:52

down and then like so is he like he

26:54

like slammed on the brakes while he likes were

26:56

of to the last and it's a semi like

26:58

rolling off. Was

27:00

it and a male driver? Yes, There.

27:03

Was a male driver and. Three.

27:06

Females. Passengers. On.

27:10

And not really sure anything about the.

27:12

Passenger. And the driver's seat and is a. Difference.

27:15

At the front passenger in the passenger seat

27:17

or the past passenger but I just know

27:19

that says it says the dog. And was driving

27:21

the bar. And. Oh

27:24

My. God. I'm when you rolled off it

27:26

is a miracle. It is a miracle that

27:28

you weren't killed or seriously injured. Yeah.

27:32

It was a miracle. I. I.

27:35

Don't know why I wasn't hurt and it

27:37

all A I got an asphalt burn but

27:39

that wasn't anything delay. That's not a problem

27:41

as it a scratch. On.

27:45

I was more. I was more hurt. Emotionally.

27:48

I was like. Not. Detail

27:50

is my dog but I've been to seat is

27:53

like I had. They had taken from me. They

27:55

controlled me. They had taken from me. When

27:57

I was clearly fighting for again. I

28:00

have felt like a failure. You know I didn't get. The

28:02

dog she did. Get. Away they did

28:04

get away with him on. I felt like

28:06

at that moment there was. No. One around.

28:08

I looked around. there was no one. I

28:12

sort of whimpered and. Pulled myself up and

28:14

to says. How my going to

28:16

explain this one and mean. There's

28:19

was on a slave exists couldn't even

28:21

wrap my head around sorry. Easily explained

28:23

this to people and. I

28:27

I just I. Felt so I'm.

28:30

Stuck. I saw Lily stuff I

28:33

had no on. I.

28:35

Just had to go it. I had a goal is to

28:37

slow because there's nothing I could do. I was. A

28:39

thing taken from means. I

28:42

had to just accept it. You.

28:44

Fought to the bitter end to save your

28:47

dog. There's actually no question about it, he

28:49

has been record it's you know you absolutely

28:51

did what I'm curious about and it made

28:53

you know And I realize the months. Feels

28:56

like an eternity, especially when your

28:58

dog is been stolen. but I'm.

29:01

Given. The neighborhoods because there's

29:03

so many cameras and downtown

29:05

Los Angeles that while this

29:07

video is. Crucial to what

29:09

happened to you. There

29:11

has got to be more digital

29:14

forensic evidence here that the authorities

29:16

are working on getting to further

29:19

identify the car, the drivers, everything.

29:22

They. Got the footage from Whole foods. it shows

29:24

have one in picking up the dog but

29:26

they couldn't get facial. Recognition on her

29:28

on. So there's something the cameras are

29:30

annoying to like. They had almost what

29:33

you needed benign enough. the proof and.

29:35

I guess legally need to have. More.

29:38

Facial recognition. Yeah, what's

29:40

now? What is interesting? Another development

29:42

here and this is being reported

29:44

by the Daily Mail. so we

29:46

have not been able to confirm

29:48

this with the Lapd. So please

29:51

keep in mind that this is

29:53

the Daily Mail's reporting. They claim

29:55

to have photos although the photos

29:57

they published or only of the

29:59

dog they. Claim that the photos

30:01

show the dog. On. A

30:03

lap and a car and that's

30:06

what we see on the Daily

30:08

Mail. They claim as part of

30:10

their investigation that this photo was

30:12

part of a text exchange with

30:15

another individual and the the information

30:17

being. Exchanged is about do you

30:19

know who would want to buy

30:21

him for twenty five hundred dollars

30:23

and we see a picture of

30:25

dog that looks a lot like

30:27

yours. We

30:30

can't say for sure who that

30:32

is. It is not clear the

30:34

Daily Mail is making that that claim,

30:36

but can you at least alley tell

30:38

us. Is. That your dog in

30:41

that photo. Yes, So my

30:43

dog. As so weird to see him

30:45

being sold. On. That's.

30:48

My dog he looks a little sad when

30:50

you may be always whistles as. And

30:53

that he looks some. Confuse. Allegedly.

30:57

Dallas. Hurts have to somebody. So.

31:00

I'm. Well.

31:02

So there's a lot. I mean, clearly there

31:05

is a lot to this Investigations Louis, What

31:07

else do you think is gonna be pertinent

31:09

here And figuring out who was the driver,

31:11

who else was in the car, what kind

31:13

of other. Evidence Do you think they're

31:15

looking at? Well. Are

31:18

these important? Note or lose perspective

31:20

as to to She says she

31:22

31:24

where was she? city? the front for the backed. Syrian.

31:27

Find a driver we are in the driver's seat

31:29

or know where I putting away from me. who

31:31

who and will do you. How do you feel?

31:34

would you feel you would recognize the other. Three.

31:36

And Buddhism with her teams in my life. As

31:38

online, I'm not. Sure about the other two

31:41

women but the man I was staring

31:43

at his i's lifestyle and I definitely

31:45

know him. I absolutely am identified him

31:47

and on. They. Had him

31:49

arrested. When they arrested her they had him

31:51

handcuffs that they didn't recognize as they let

31:54

him go on. So now that they that

31:56

the and identify him now they're it as

31:58

abilities adult. Arrest him. There could be

32:00

more arrest pending based on your communications with

32:03

investigators. That also is it. It's assault with

32:05

a deadly weapon does. He was. On driving

32:07

against mean class together on to do

32:09

not have worried that they're all when

32:12

a for right now but. Mostly

32:15

should arm and to answer a question

32:17

more it entered the titans My as

32:19

you mentioned digital evidence out there right?

32:21

There are songs in the their car

32:23

we know possibly to the individuals who

32:25

may have been in there are allegedly

32:27

on to soldered to them trail in

32:29

where they went to after that after

32:31

that robbery it's a natural robbery and

32:33

you know what is it? It's an

32:35

armed robbery. know the hand and lose

32:37

our roots. Robbery by force for fear.

32:39

I'm so that that's the same as

32:41

as using as a nice for in

32:44

a poignant. And and it's a difference.

32:46

I sublet and and but regardless, it's

32:48

my force or fear that that's a

32:50

major major step off from simply grab

32:52

and the dog and running. Seize

32:55

up. Questions

32:57

here about. On.

33:00

And you may not be able to share. This is clearly.

33:02

You are in in communications

33:05

with investigators in the fact

33:07

of case any idea? Where

33:10

the dog could be if the dog is

33:12

okay if it's been sold anything like that.

33:17

And the I think about this all the

33:19

time been. A.

33:21

Part of me hopes his with their

33:23

families still under the same. An.

33:27

Elite our they are and sales at is

33:29

there. And we haven't spotted him

33:31

33:34

And. They. Obviously as

33:56

him and his. Skill is he bought

33:58

and will pay back the money. By

34:00

a horrible and. And

34:03

lady these reconnect with him. So.

34:06

There. Is so help out. There are their

34:08

lives of people and is. Hopefully

34:11

if somebody is are motivated do it out alive. They'll

34:13

do it. For. The reward. On.

34:16

So we want to make the you know. What?

34:19

Wanna give ten thousand dollars to the

34:22

person that recovers him? On

34:24

then again and as big as leave. And

34:27

think that I might motivate somebody? And

34:31

much on you. he does it doesn't

34:33

Some cases what can you tell us

34:35

about Onyx? See such an unusual looking

34:37

French? he. Likes.

34:39

Is so sweet. He says his dad

34:42

wanted him to be more on tougher.

34:44

he was ill a little less friendly

34:46

to strangers the that was non as

34:48

he's as love people and dogs so

34:50

my eyes the many he's somebody wants

34:52

a sauce and he goes sideways and

34:55

liberals over and he. Is.

34:57

This goes in for this

34:59

this novel and his silly

35:01

and he on. Loves.

35:04

Ryan and gets hired and he

35:06

loves all these impacts, the go

35:08

to and all of our friends

35:10

and there's a lot of people

35:12

out there that miss him. On.

35:15

We have appears a big guy, a big.

35:18

A. Bit following of people that love him in

35:20

his and so. On so many

35:22

people Be so happy to see. Him returned. Some

35:24

we think putting the whole can see you

35:27

know I've really gotten says love from the

35:29

whole country. I mean it's everyone wants to

35:31

see this very union video when he went

35:33

on as cubs that home you know? Yes!

35:36

And that's what we're all was singing and

35:38

praying for And he's a very. Unusual

35:40

looking dog so are. We were

35:42

using his photos, his photos, Are

35:44

everywhere obviously. But for those who may

35:46

be listening to as were also a

35:49

podcast who may be listening and and

35:51

not right now looking at the photo.

35:53

how would you describe his coloring? Isis.

35:56

that salary is called moral. And.

36:00

It sort of black and white at like six

36:02

awkward sips or something. Had sort of

36:04

i'm black or white, spotted mixed.

36:06

I'm. One. Of his eyes

36:08

is green and one of his

36:10

eyes is blue and. I'm.

36:14

And. Or know he just one is like one

36:17

years old. Three months. We've kind of his

36:19

body changing a little the right now and

36:21

you went from. He grew to his full

36:23

size right away. I wasn't a baby, was

36:25

a little small puppy for so long he

36:27

grew briefly on that. Now he started to

36:29

get a little bulkier. And.

36:32

And is to to see him like sorry, like

36:34

put on a little bit of weight. Look.

36:37

Into for ah.

36:40

Say. I just wonder what he's eating. Now

36:42

I can imagine what he's eating in. You

36:45

know where night owls over here So he has

36:47

always of late with us and I don't know

36:49

of his father's as in a case going sleep

36:51

early or something on. His whole lifestyle

36:53

as a seized around you know. So.

36:56

They were. I really want us to be over soon for hims

36:58

I think that has he has gone through long enough. You a

37:01

one day was. In be dramatic, but it's a month.

37:03

I mean I don't know. How

37:05

it up As a Now. I

37:07

read that someone had actually tried to

37:10

scam you claiming to have a dog

37:12

and thought some money out of you,

37:14

can you share that with us. Someone.

37:17

Called and said I am the brother of

37:19

the driver. I have a little

37:21

your dogs the the last week. He's.

37:24

In my household they told me that they bought

37:26

him. I. Just saw the news I

37:28

thought i his stall and I cannot believe that he

37:30

saw a higher get him back to you. On.

37:33

I. Don't care so much better award as as his

37:36

right thing as a sub bass you. And

37:38

we said thank you so much he said it

37:40

I just the them some gas money the gets

37:42

and to meet up with these are. So.

37:46

We were just so excited. Reason with this and

37:48

I'm fifty dollar right away And that a cast

37:50

app? And. That.

37:52

He didn't answer for minute. And. Then wings

37:54

or to. as to him and he came back

37:56

answer to get he still continued to have his

37:59

me them as as at the CVS, no.

38:03

Then like he never like stopped, he

38:06

never like scammed us and then ran like

38:08

he almost kept going. Then he did kind

38:10

of like ghost us and disappear. But then we

38:12

like and we tried to say like, can

38:15

we give you $1,000 for like more information or

38:17

you know, but he I

38:19

think he was confused what to do but in

38:22

fall for it he stayed away. Horrible.

38:26

It's amazing people take advantage of something

38:28

like that. I'm sorry. You're

38:30

really taking advantage of people's emotions. We weren't

38:32

thinking clearly. We're just jumping at the opportunity

38:34

to like find our dog. Yeah,

38:37

absolutely. Was Onyx

38:39

chipped? Um,

38:43

Onyx was not chipped. Oh,

38:45

I'm sorry. But I

38:48

don't think that's going to be

38:50

the problem in this case in particular.

38:53

I agree. He's wearing his ID

38:56

on the outside. He's so unique.

38:58

I mean, that's what's very special

39:00

about him is that he's so,

39:02

so unique. You know,

39:04

that hopefully everyone in the dog world

39:06

is on the lookout for a dog

39:08

like this because no

39:11

one else looks like him. Yeah. I

39:13

mean, people have been sending us a lot of imposters.

39:17

They've been adorable and they've been really

39:19

close. I found out there are more

39:21

dogs that look like him than I

39:23

thought as there are a lot of people spotting

39:26

them. And some people really believe it's

39:28

him. But

39:30

we've investigated each case and it hasn't been or

39:32

we finally got to a picture and it's similar,

39:34

but it's not him. So it's

39:37

a little bit more out there than just him, but

39:40

I still think we'll know the situation.

39:43

Yeah. You

39:45

know, we've had a horrific history here

39:48

of violence in the Los Angeles area

39:50

when it comes to the stealing of

39:52

French Bulldogs. Yours is a

39:54

horrific case that was caught on camera. But

39:57

then there's this other case and, you know, very, very famous. the

40:00

Lady Gaga case and I want to bring this

40:02

up because it really goes to show

40:04

how vulnerable dogs

40:09

and dog owners can be. In February

40:11

of 2021, Lady Gaga's two

40:13

French bulldogs were stolen from her

40:15

dog walker and in that case

40:17

the dog walker was shot and

40:20

wounded during the heist. I mean

40:22

this is serious. She offered $500,000 reward. The

40:24

dogs were ultimately returned

40:28

but police determined that the woman

40:30

who returned the dogs they claimed

40:33

was part of the heist and

40:35

so they said she should knock at the

40:37

$500,000 then the woman goes ahead and

40:42

sues Lady Gaga for the $500,000 plus $1.5 million

40:44

in damages for the emotional damage that

40:48

she has suffered in

40:50

stealing Lady Gaga's dogs

40:53

and the judge tossed out that case in 10 minutes

40:55

and said this is absurd. But

40:58

I have to

41:00

say this, Allie, ever since that happened

41:02

with Lady Gaga's dogs, when

41:05

I see someone walking their French in LA,

41:07

I get very nervous. I

41:09

get really nervous and now your case is bad.

41:12

It's just too bad. They're just sweet little dogs.

41:14

I don't know why they're so expensive and I

41:16

don't know. It's just

41:18

made a target out of them.

41:20

I really feel the odds are really

41:22

in your favor of getting your beautiful

41:24

dog back and of course you

41:27

said it yourself, you have a hell of

41:29

a team apparently in law enforcement that you're

41:31

very much appreciative of and doing a great

41:33

job and they're passionate

41:36

about doing everything they can to get on

41:38

next back. So I feel really

41:40

good about the outcome here. I have to think positive here

41:42

but I hope you do too. I know. Could

41:46

I say one more thing? I just wanted to say that

41:48

my friend from the dog park, our

41:51

little dogs play together and he's just

41:53

a sweet man. Tim Scully has been

43:51

case is out of Ventura County

43:53

where a female German shepherd named

43:55

pretty girl was stolen from an

43:57

animal rescue facility in Camera Rio.

44:00

Operated by Paul Works, the

44:02

entire thing was recorded by

44:04

surveillance cameras. It

44:07

is horrifying. To. Watch

44:09

this man drag her

44:11

out of her crate.

44:14

Her safe space. Heater:

44:16

Over the head, My. Poor

44:19

out by the collar pretty

44:21

girl was a three year

44:23

old German shepherd mix who

44:25

was rescued by Paul Works

44:27

from a kill shelter and

44:29

they were working on rehabilitating

44:32

her. Making.

44:34

Her a more confident dogs.

44:38

With. The intention and the

44:40

whole point of finding pretty

44:42

girl the perfect. Family that

44:44

would love her, support her and

44:47

understand her. And.

44:49

Her chance was taken away. Taken.

44:52

Away. That. Dog Sees

44:54

broken it to forty am on June

44:57

ninth of Twenty Twenty Two, and later

44:59

that morning. The dog was

45:01

found along the sides of the one on

45:03

one freeway, badly injured. A

45:06

good samaritan picked her up. Daughter

45:08

to the animal hospital and because she

45:11

was checked. The

45:13

hospital called Paul works who

45:15

got her to their facility.

45:19

But. It was too late to couldn't survive. When

45:24

she passed. She

45:27

was surrounded by people who knew her and loved

45:29

her. And

45:33

that to me is important. I

45:37

am so upset about this case. I watched

45:39

it unfold. In real time. Have been

45:41

wanting to do this case for

45:44

a long time because I'm. When

45:47

I saw the pain and the

45:49

please. From Paul Works and from Brittany who

45:51

York and a meat in a minute? I

45:56

just was sick to my stomach. Especially when

45:58

the last thing that they. Had. A

46:01

pretty girl was her collar and then.

46:03

The. Rope that the man used to. Blur.

46:06

Out by. Himself

46:08

said about this case loose. You know,

46:10

understandably so my and I'm sure many,

46:12

many, many reviewers are also. But you

46:15

really have a good point with the

46:17

ship. Ship fear

46:19

dogs it is so important for for

46:21

so many reasons but he described it

46:23

perfectly. It's a nice many that been

46:25

errands. The how

46:27

important is to be that are with your

46:29

dog when it's time to let go. Out

46:32

with his said medically done for with

46:35

a they're just some scientists in that

46:37

of the notably going to happen is

46:39

all their door and when those last

46:41

ourselves that minister last minutes com is

46:43

looking around the room looking for you

46:45

looking for your family can that's really

46:47

the only confirm that the best conferred

46:50

they can get a bedtime. Silver

46:53

and least pretty girl had the opportunity

46:55

and. Will. Should

46:57

interact She didn't have to go through

46:59

that. Off. And I know

47:01

this is really raw for us because we're

47:04

still grieving our animals. Are

47:09

getting enough to get it slow?

47:11

Sorry. let me compose myself here.

47:13

Okay, so Paul works offered

47:15

a seventeen thousand dollar reward

47:18

for tips that would actually

47:20

broke the case Here was

47:22

that the suspect this is

47:24

insanity. Louis came back three

47:26

months later, broke into the

47:29

facility again. Okay,

47:31

they have surveillance cameras. They have alarms.

47:34

The suspect turn the camera

47:36

away. And the

47:39

way that police broke this case.

47:42

Is that neighboring surveillance?

47:44

Cameras picked up the person

47:46

who broke cans. And then within,

47:49

you know, just a matter of. Short

47:51

period of times. They were able to

47:53

locate the suspect and we're going to get

47:55

into greater detail about this. Case. Once

47:58

the resources. What. And

48:00

ah I'm you know the difficulty

48:02

of prosecuting. This case and.

48:05

So. We're gonna bring on Brittany

48:08

this car Now who is

48:10

the Director of Operations For

48:12

Politics? If any of you

48:14

followed this case you saw

48:16

and you heard, Brittany Spain

48:18

representing the organization and her

48:20

ordeal. To

48:23

say is to save pretty girl and in

48:25

the end just give her I'm. A

48:28

good bye that was filled with love. I'm

48:30

so upset about this case Britney and thank you

48:32

for the work that you do Your Angels

48:34

on Earth and see A thank you so much

48:36

to both of you because getting to know

48:38

you and and even if. If

48:41

hearing the compassion and the care that you

48:43

guys have behind this than wanting to feature

48:46

this is just it's huge craft and it's

48:48

huge for and will advocacy and the right

48:50

towards crimes against animal everywhere. So the think

48:52

feel. Ah my gosh oh

48:54

I wanna talk. You know about this

48:57

case and of weakens a lot of

48:59

times I i cover a criminal case

49:01

kind of from beginning to end because

49:03

it gives people an the chronology and

49:06

also the clues that are unraveling him

49:08

in real time. So what are the

49:10

things I'm. Having trouble with your Britain

49:12

is. Why? Break

49:14

in. To get.

49:17

A. Dog. Like on even

49:19

get that pounds. You

49:22

know, And. That's been my

49:24

question that whole time and I still

49:26

don't have those answers. I don't think

49:28

I'll ever have those answers. And.

49:32

To be frank, their what's the

49:34

most frustrating part of this. And.

49:38

You. Know everybody going into the store at

49:40

who is it does he works there

49:42

is he a volunteer as and I

49:44

hear that a sheath do. They know

49:46

the facility layout and. Any we

49:48

were. Dissecting. That that

49:50

edge. Just like everybody else we had so many

49:52

people who are all doing the same thing about

49:55

and. I

49:57

I showed. This.

50:00

The reason why I thought they'd

50:02

be the animal did not know

50:04

this person. it was not a

50:06

employer volunteer was a very very

50:08

simple thing. These. Animals

50:10

no less. They. Love us! They.

50:12

Have their every day ins and outs

50:15

and schedules with As and Idea is

50:17

a news segment and that was the

50:19

very question that they proposed to me

50:21

and I said watch that. I.

50:24

Had them walk into our main room. the room

50:26

that you see on that footage. And.

50:28

The dogs immediately sense to stranger.

50:31

roaring barking to see it

50:34

was. As. Bad as it was on that

50:36

video. I said okay, know

50:38

what's best. They walk out. I walk

50:40

him. Silence. They. Did not

50:42

barks, they did not grow, they deny how

50:44

old nothing and I said that is the

50:46

different. That is why I know that these

50:49

animals did not know the perpetrator. They know

50:51

that they didn't know this person because they

50:53

can sense good and makes sense compassion and

50:55

love and people are familiar with and that

50:57

was not. The sense that they

50:59

are on our video and. When.

51:04

We. Found out who this was we

51:06

immediately recognized the name and the only

51:08

reason is dead and this is something

51:11

I think that wasn't on put out

51:13

there must as because it was all

51:15

learned after the fact. The

51:18

da nose and army know the

51:20

and. The. Police new I

51:22

can remember this day like it was

51:24

yesterday and I swear I blacked out

51:26

for passes the conversation bet they called

51:29

us and they said he recognizes name

51:31

mild very and at first we said

51:33

no that doesn't sound familiar at all

51:35

actually and then I said be not

51:37

give me one second I searched or

51:39

database to see if we had ever

51:41

had an Ama a person meet with

51:43

a dog with that name and sure

51:45

enough he popped up a year prior.

51:47

You see how to come in and

51:49

he was looking to adopt and. Met

51:52

with our A or B P now

51:54

and you know he just seemed like

51:57

a guy that was. Maybe

51:59

had a power. Mm and we

52:01

we did Oliver normal routines and he

52:03

just looks like he needed companionship are

52:05

or what have you. And we did

52:07

the vetting and everything seemed fine. Ah,

52:10

And he did a Me. He even. Took.

52:13

One of our pity is on on

52:15

the me and it didn't work out

52:18

just because of allergies or whatever. The

52:20

dog came back she was fine she

52:22

seems and like the sky a lot

52:25

and she was one of our very

52:27

hard to that best. So we we

52:29

didn't get this weird sense, we just

52:31

got a sense of somebody who may

52:34

be had been in a press pass

52:36

before and will make it better. Fan.

52:39

Base and what we know Now we now understand.

52:41

That. His. Ruff past.

52:44

Cough up with him and call him

52:46

to be com. The person who we

52:49

all saw that video and while are

52:51

exchange with him wasn't fast, he didn't

52:53

have a sense of the property or

52:55

heat until lox her you know he'd

52:57

have. He didn't do a lot of

52:59

the things people thought he did but

53:01

we knew who he was. And.

53:03

He he knew who with her. So

53:05

she knew that we weren't people who

53:07

were just gonna shame him or be

53:10

denotes taken back. And.

53:13

So. For him to come back than

53:15

a year later and say oh these

53:17

people who took that hands on me

53:19

who wanted to help me find love

53:21

or comparison. Now. I'm going

53:24

into the exact opposite to

53:26

them was infuriating. To.

53:28

Be frank and. Because.

53:32

Of we had a history with very easy to just.

53:35

Get. Of grilled the timeline of

53:37

everything going on and. Yeah.

53:41

I just I I don't know I

53:43

don't know would have this person who

53:45

knew that we would be open to

53:48

conversation and if you listen to. Court.

53:51

Case and and see the

53:53

docket. The lawyer his lawyers

53:55

argument is drug use, the

53:57

and I'm. Drawing.

54:00

If a dog fueled

54:02

psychosis, he didn't know what he was doing,

54:04

which I think is a load of something

54:07

that my dogs create. And

54:09

I just don't really buy it. So I don't know.

54:13

They said that he wrote us a letter and

54:15

talking about this, that, and the other. We've

54:18

never received one. We don't know what his

54:20

reasoning or anything behind that is. We just

54:22

heard this very small snippet from his lawyer

54:24

when they were giving him his sentencing. So

54:28

I would love to know the answer to that question. But I

54:30

don't think any answer will be

54:33

justice for what he did. Brittany,

54:35

can I ask you, did he have to

54:37

make any type of admissions to obtain

54:40

this plea deal? Did he have to

54:43

admit what actually happened to

54:45

Pretty Girl? As far as I

54:47

know, in a roundabout way,

54:49

yes. They

54:52

say that his lawyer was

54:54

stating that he

54:56

did those things but does not recollect any of

54:58

it. He

55:02

was so brokenhearted over his actions that were

55:04

caused by his drug use that

55:06

he didn't recognize what he was doing,

55:08

his thought process, or anything. So it

55:11

was a very roundabout

55:13

way of saying, I did

55:15

it, but I didn't. So yeah,

55:18

I'm not quite sure. I think up

55:21

until that last sentencing, he

55:23

was pleading not guilty, too awful. He

55:25

was just hitting it really hard, and

55:27

so was his lawyer, which I can't

55:31

roll my eyes about hard enough because the

55:33

evidence was all there. And

55:36

I was sitting in

55:38

the courtroom when this was all happening. And it

55:41

took every ounce of my being,

55:44

who was a very outspoken person,

55:46

to stay quiet. My facial

55:48

expressions did enough, I think, for me.

55:50

But that's what the DA asked, too.

55:53

So you're saying this is

55:55

what you did to do that, but

55:58

what about the second time? You came back. That

56:00

is the part I don't get that he

56:02

came back a second time. But think about

56:04

it, Brittany and Lewis, if he hadn't come

56:06

back that second time, you may not have caught him.

56:10

I've been saying that the reason he

56:12

got caught is pure stupidity. He

56:15

was stupid and we

56:17

are grateful for that fact because otherwise we

56:19

would have never caught him. And

56:23

I think, you know, looking at it, a lot

56:25

of people, social media played a huge part in

56:27

this, as does I think anything anymore. But

56:30

we have so many people who were saying,

56:33

do this, cast, do fingerprints, do

56:35

this, do this, do this. And

56:37

they, it's, it was really

56:40

hard to put out there and say, that's

56:42

not entirely realistic. That's not, it's not CSI

56:44

Miami. We don't have, you know, that's not

56:46

real. And

56:49

our detectives were amazing.

56:51

The Camryo Police Department was through

56:54

and through and the venture of the DAA,

56:56

they were so incredible with this. They

56:59

were so personable. They checked with us so

57:01

regularly and they truly did every single thing

57:03

they can. And

57:05

despite their efforts and want

57:08

to test for fingerprints or do

57:10

this, they just simply weren't there.

57:13

Our location is on a very busy

57:16

road surrounded by agricultural fields. So

57:18

it's dusty and dirty and there

57:20

was nothing to grab. And even

57:22

grabbing those little bits of the

57:26

kennel, the dog kennel, you know, it's so

57:28

minute. It's barely even a

57:30

fingerprint. So they did everything

57:32

they could that day. But

57:35

yeah, sheer, sheer stupidity. I

57:37

lost so much sleep after

57:39

that happened until, I mean, even after,

57:42

after he was let out on Bond, I

57:44

was just really thinking if he's that stupid,

57:48

I'd take it to it. What's to say he's not

57:50

going to come back on Bond? What's to say he's

57:52

not just break what he's supposed to do because the

57:55

court ruled that he should and come

57:57

back. And you

57:59

know, we. I

58:01

am a very responsible gun

58:04

owner. I was just

58:06

so scared. I was just

58:08

terrified. I was terrified that he would

58:10

do it again and he did. The night that he

58:13

did, our security, as you had said, we

58:16

re-amped our security system. We had exterior cameras. We

58:19

changed all the locks to be metal plates so he couldn't

58:21

break in. That's how he

58:23

got in the first time was he picked a lock. So

58:25

he had a lock. That's how he got

58:27

in the first time was he picked a

58:29

lock. So also let me

58:31

backtrack and say to be on

58:34

such heavy drugs that you don't know what you're doing, but

58:36

you can sit there and pick a lock. Agree.

58:40

And have the wherewithal to turn the camera away. Right.

58:43

Be very tactical on his approach

58:45

to whatever situation that they want.

58:48

He did whatever vehicle because we know he

58:50

went to Newbury Park. So

58:52

we know there was a vehicle. Whatever vehicle he

58:55

was in, he parked it where there's

58:57

no cameras behind railroad tracks. He

58:59

covered a space the whole time. He picked

59:01

a lock silently. He didn't break it. Didn't

59:03

break a window. Didn't

59:06

really touch anything. And yeah,

59:08

so I don't know

59:10

what kind of drugs can cause you to forget what you're, to not

59:13

know what you're doing, but also to be able to do this kind

59:15

of break in. But the night

59:17

that he came back the second time, all

59:19

of our cameras hook up to our phones. We get

59:21

live feeds. So we're always on our phones. I'm

59:24

always checking in any motion. I'm on

59:27

it because now I just am so scared

59:29

when it's going to happen. And

59:32

that night, sure enough, my alarm went off

59:34

and we learned from the last time that

59:36

the time the alarm goes off doesn't necessarily

59:38

mean, you know, the cameras are

59:40

valid. There's a delay. There's a three

59:42

minute delay before we got called. So I'm

59:45

backtracking, backtracking, looking through all the videos that had

59:47

happened. And that's when I saw

59:49

him and I got in my car pajamas and all

59:52

just told my boyfriend, I got to go.

59:54

And he's like, okay. And I lived down the street and

59:56

I drove so fast, so fast because at that time,

1:00:00

All I saw was this hand grabbing the camera and

1:00:02

pushing it away. And I didn't

1:00:04

know what I was going to come to

1:00:07

called our detective immediately. And

1:00:11

just looked at the camera. You

1:00:13

can see he's not wearing gloves. So I just grabbed

1:00:15

a plastic bag, bagged it, unscrewed it and said, okay,

1:00:17

here you go. He

1:00:20

didn't break in. He wasn't able to get

1:00:22

in that time because fortunately,

1:00:24

the, you know, all of our

1:00:26

efforts paid off. He got

1:00:28

spooked by the lights on the alarms

1:00:30

and had no keyhole to

1:00:32

break into. And

1:00:35

yeah, that's when he

1:00:37

got the camera, got his fingerprints. He had

1:00:39

been in the system. So it

1:00:43

all started there. Yeah.

1:00:45

Good job. Wow. That

1:00:48

is amazing. That is amazing. And then they

1:00:50

end up serving a search warrant on September 28th

1:00:52

on Miles Berry home. And

1:00:54

they discovered they said evidence that was linking

1:00:57

him to both crimes. And

1:00:59

so 34 year old Miles Berry of

1:01:02

Newberry was then charged with felony commercial

1:01:04

burglary, felony animal

1:01:06

cruelty, felony attempted commercial

1:01:08

burglary with special enhancements,

1:01:10

which he initially pleaded

1:01:13

not guilty to. I did

1:01:15

find that at the very beginning of this

1:01:17

case, from what I read that was fascinating

1:01:20

to me, that when he had one of

1:01:22

his initial hearings, you know, and they're dealing

1:01:24

with bail and all this other stuff, that

1:01:26

the judge ordered him to find a new

1:01:28

home for his cat. While

1:01:31

this case was making its

1:01:33

way through the system. He,

1:01:36

you know, he entered a plea of not

1:01:38

guilty, presumed innocent, as we always remind everyone.

1:01:41

But the judge said, you find a new place

1:01:43

for that cat. Good on that judge. He

1:01:47

still cannot have the cat. He's

1:01:49

not based on his, the

1:01:52

ruling, he's not allowed to have any

1:01:54

animals in his possession for at

1:01:56

least 10 years. And

1:01:59

they're Great. It. Yeah, it

1:02:01

looks home. If if somebody else

1:02:03

has an animal, it can only be

1:02:05

under the circumstances that animal is a

1:02:08

liquor emotional. Support Group therapy upset.

1:02:10

Or of it's a necessity, but not to him.

1:02:13

While. Some want to go back

1:02:15

to to the beginnings. Of Pretty Girl.

1:02:17

I wanna know more about Pretty Girl And

1:02:20

then I also want to talk about that

1:02:22

night she was taken because. The surveillance video

1:02:24

to me is is very intriguing says she's

1:02:26

not the first dog human after I'm in

1:02:28

tried to get another dog out of the

1:02:31

kennel of a kennel in the center of

1:02:33

the room and couldn't to that that dog

1:02:35

just would not and it and so with

1:02:38

any looks around and he finds pretty girl

1:02:40

and manages to pull her out of the

1:02:42

kennel violently and then hit serves the tell

1:02:44

me about pretty girl. I

1:02:47

will do my best to not get

1:02:49

emotional has I just can't help it.

1:02:51

I'm. Still, Pretty

1:02:53

girl came back from Avenue

1:02:55

All which is a shelter

1:02:58

in the central valley and

1:03:00

they're incredibly a rural very

1:03:02

high you sensation percentages because

1:03:04

they simply. To. Be

1:03:06

frank, their county doesn't. Not.

1:03:09

A community that the county doesn't care

1:03:11

so much about. The.

1:03:13

Shelter. It's very small if

1:03:15

you're looking for a of film at the if up side

1:03:17

of the dirt road. And.

1:03:19

It's two guys that run it. Begs

1:03:21

hair so much and they need hope.

1:03:23

so we pull from them quite often

1:03:25

and. Pretty girl with

1:03:27

hundred as rescues. She was

1:03:29

incredibly scared of people scared

1:03:31

of human contact. Couldn't walk

1:03:34

aliased. she was just. I

1:03:37

don't know who was the case of

1:03:39

neglect or a case of this no

1:03:41

human socialization that closer to have such

1:03:44

a significant distress and so. We

1:03:46

have been working with her for just about

1:03:48

it a year at that point. Trying.

1:03:51

To work with her and reliability her

1:03:53

and she had fum a long way.

1:03:55

She enjoyed seeing as she was loving

1:03:58

She had a vibrant personality. She

1:04:00

too had her little quirks by. We knew

1:04:02

that we were getting closer to that time

1:04:04

where we'll be able to place. Her

1:04:06

successfully. And she

1:04:08

was just. You. Could

1:04:10

walk into the pan. she's the kind of

1:04:12

he just runs up and put the full

1:04:14

force of her body against year just to

1:04:17

feel bad. Contact them. Love. And.

1:04:23

You know this. Person.

1:04:26

Rips that away. It took

1:04:28

a year of love and

1:04:30

work and to helping her

1:04:33

feel safe again to. Be.

1:04:35

Completely ripped out about safe space

1:04:38

and. Ultimately was her life

1:04:40

which. Is. Just getting.

1:04:42

It's heartbreaking to know that she

1:04:44

hired a rough start and then

1:04:46

she fought a hard and and

1:04:48

we're just grateful that that person

1:04:50

who found her acted so quickly.

1:04:53

She's also gave her so much

1:04:56

love. Leading up

1:04:58

to going to the hospital and

1:05:00

I'm. Yeah. I

1:05:02

mean, we're just. We're. Glad that.

1:05:05

In the end, the ones that were there

1:05:07

for her for the last year with their

1:05:10

her and her final moments. It will never

1:05:12

take away what happened and it will never

1:05:14

take away the fact that she's just ah

1:05:16

here and it was because of somebody is

1:05:18

selfish. Choices. And

1:05:21

I do mean Twitter kids!

1:05:23

He. Is at the end.

1:05:26

It's got there so. He

1:05:30

I am I have a question. For you,

1:05:32

Britney, I'm. So.

1:05:35

What we don't understand is obviously we don't

1:05:37

know why he took. Nother

1:05:40

set things. So.

1:05:43

Pretty girls found a few hours later on

1:05:45

the side of the freeway. Badly.

1:05:47

Badly injured. There

1:05:51

are two schools of thought on

1:05:53

was and what do you think

1:05:55

happened. So.

1:05:58

From. What we saw at. And

1:06:00

I guess it kind of goes into the testimony,

1:06:02

which I

1:06:05

was waiting to hear that what he had

1:06:07

to say had happened or his lawyer for

1:06:09

that matter. In my

1:06:12

opinion, as I

1:06:14

said, she was not quick to trust people.

1:06:16

She had her community, but she still needed

1:06:18

to work with new people. And

1:06:20

you can see in the video what he does take her.

1:06:22

At first,

1:06:24

she doesn't really know what's going on. And

1:06:27

then she realizes absolutely not stranger

1:06:29

danger. And she

1:06:32

starts freaking out and trying to get away. That's

1:06:34

when he hits her over the head with his phone. And

1:06:39

what I believe happened, and what I

1:06:41

had hoped had happened was that she bit the

1:06:44

crap out of him. And she got away. Because

1:06:48

she was a tough

1:06:50

girl, like she would protect herself. And

1:06:53

then I was hoping I said, I hope she got

1:06:55

a chunk out of his arm and the police department

1:06:57

were putting out to all hospitals saying, if anybody comes

1:06:59

into the dog bite, call

1:07:02

us. And while

1:07:05

I hope that he was harmed, from

1:07:09

what I understand is she did, he

1:07:11

attempted to walk her on that makeshift

1:07:13

leash. And she said, I don't

1:07:16

know you. And she broke

1:07:18

away from him. And she took off. And

1:07:22

from reports of people seeing her

1:07:24

on the freeway, she was running back down the

1:07:27

grade towards Camarillo,

1:07:30

as if she knew she was coming home. It

1:07:34

wasn't until somebody tried to catch her that

1:07:36

she got over, and then she was going back up.

1:07:39

And she was kind of going back and forth for a bit

1:07:41

before she was ultimately hit by a car. So

1:07:45

as far as we know, she knew what she

1:07:48

was protecting herself. And she was able to get

1:07:50

away from him. It just unfortunately

1:07:52

didn't work out for her to get home.

1:08:00

Hang. In. It

1:08:03

really. Sick and. I mean it open to

1:08:05

time, but as if. We think

1:08:07

about her every day. Now we

1:08:09

have her paw print in our office and.

1:08:13

We talk about are all the time and

1:08:15

we talked. Our staff and her staff has

1:08:18

been so excited just. That.

1:08:20

This case with even going

1:08:22

through court. Yes, we. Agree!

1:08:24

Getting pretty girls case to this

1:08:27

point is really unbelievable when you

1:08:29

look at the statistics. Experts

1:08:32

believe. As few as. Point.

1:08:36

One. Percent. Not even a

1:08:38

percent of animal senses. Or

1:08:40

even reported. Tomoko,

1:08:46

My birth barely even reported, let

1:08:48

alone. When you start with such tiny

1:08:50

numbers than you try and figure out the

1:08:52

prosecution levels. And

1:08:55

to father was important discuss this case because and

1:08:57

I just have to wonder what the reason is

1:08:59

for that. I feel like

1:09:01

just being mad. Been on this side of

1:09:03

that. Been on this side of. The.

1:09:06

Situation We're very much

1:09:08

by. Nothing's.

1:09:11

Going have been nobody's gonna hair.

1:09:14

Nothing's. Gonna happen. We

1:09:17

were so I mean honestly

1:09:19

surprised, but also so grateful.

1:09:22

That the police department did care so

1:09:24

much that are detective cared some action

1:09:26

that the Dh hurts the match it

1:09:28

is. But

1:09:31

we we went into it very

1:09:33

realistically thinking nothing's gonna some of

1:09:35

the is superb. Bert.

1:09:37

Where you know we're going to go through

1:09:40

the channels anyways and we're going to advocate

1:09:42

for her anyways. And eight. In.

1:09:44

In this sir and situation, I

1:09:46

don't either necessarily think that. The

1:09:50

reason for them tearing was because

1:09:52

of our media push. I

1:09:54

think that that definitely helps to split

1:09:56

the awareness and the communities. but these

1:09:58

people genuinely care. They called us regularly

1:10:00

checking in and telling us paid No

1:10:02

A Paid by? How are you guys

1:10:05

doing You know? no update by is

1:10:07

everybody Okay, so it's just stopping by

1:10:09

out of the blue to face our

1:10:11

youth players. And.

1:10:14

We were very surprised by on but

1:10:16

I I believe that we went into

1:10:18

this thinking. Almost.

1:10:21

Like what's the point. Because. We

1:10:23

don't think anybody's gonna take us seriously.

1:10:26

If people are getting harmed or killed

1:10:28

or this is happening outside world how

1:10:31

much are they getting care? About my

1:10:33

dog. And. A

1:10:36

I think a lot of people have that

1:10:38

mentality and I think we need to help

1:10:40

people get out of that mentality. And. Raise

1:10:43

awareness, make a stink, keep trucking and you

1:10:45

know if you're getting mad detected that maybe

1:10:47

he doesn't care that off the that May

1:10:49

doesn't seem like her. They're kind of brushing

1:10:52

you off. Post.

1:10:54

About it and we live in this day

1:10:56

and age of social media. As he was

1:10:58

saying that the gal who had her dog

1:11:00

soul and social media like Wildfire and people.

1:11:03

so many people in this community and and

1:11:05

our world care about animal welfare and I

1:11:07

think if you just put some muscle behind

1:11:09

that. We. Can cause a

1:11:11

change and make. The.

1:11:13

People who have that power to to

1:11:15

think about it to to do something

1:11:17

about it. So

1:11:20

at. That. I

1:11:23

want to get back to the

1:11:25

crime here and what happened in

1:11:27

the justice system. So on November

1:11:29

ninth of Twenty Twenty Three, he

1:11:32

took a plea deal. So the

1:11:34

four counts want them to two

1:11:36

counts ah I'm he withdrew that

1:11:38

not guilty and Miles Barry than

1:11:40

entered guilty pleas for felony, commercial

1:11:43

burglary and animal cruelty. And

1:11:45

the part that I understand he had

1:11:48

to admit to was that it involved

1:11:50

great violence again not shirts the full

1:11:52

admission y'all were looking for. And on

1:11:55

sentencing day which was December. Thirteenth of

1:11:57

twenty twenty three, which was rather

1:11:59

recent, Given

1:12:01

one hundred eighty days in jail,

1:12:03

two years probation, and can't have.

1:12:06

Animals. Brittany. Are

1:12:08

you satisfied with what happens

1:12:10

here? I

1:12:14

think. I'm satisfied that

1:12:16

there was an outcome. I

1:12:19

don't think any. Amount in

1:12:22

jail time with so phase.

1:12:24

Bear. Coming from a realistic standing

1:12:27

and knowing how the justice system

1:12:29

currently work. I am

1:12:31

satisfied that he will now have this

1:12:33

on his record. die at any time

1:12:35

she gets anything looked up. He has

1:12:38

felony for this. And.

1:12:41

He will never. Ever be

1:12:43

able to live his life without what

1:12:45

he did, tarnishing his name and his

1:12:47

reputation. So. For that

1:12:49

I am. I am satisfied. I am grateful.

1:12:52

Loose would you think? You.

1:12:55

Know and I love or are you

1:12:57

at is the sum total closure to

1:12:59

it and he knows never going beer

1:13:01

the we've seen that before and is

1:13:03

very easy to the been swept under

1:13:05

the carpet here and there were given

1:13:07

another look at pressing bring your run

1:13:09

into the perfect storm the perfect good

1:13:11

storm of individuals that actually scared now

1:13:13

beyond their jobs were pass about finding

1:13:15

the clown responsible for this on the

1:13:17

and is fantastic As for as for

1:13:19

the sins. Of

1:13:22

the but. In. Others it may

1:13:24

never be another. I get to the one thing

1:13:27

I'd love to see we talked about as in

1:13:29

other cases where. Children

1:13:31

are abused, bird molester or I would

1:13:33

like to see something that equals made

1:13:36

in law. For. people

1:13:38

were convicted of animal abuse or

1:13:40

to pursue mumbai in the home

1:13:42

i want to know that the

1:13:44

person next to me as killed

1:13:46

his neighbor's dog or kills dogs

1:13:48

or fights them or their excuses

1:13:50

and a little to policy that

1:13:52

the such somebody wants around your

1:13:54

animals that person should be restricted

1:13:56

for them contact with any animal

1:13:58

services or moist Because I don't

1:14:00

know if that behavior is going to change on a

1:14:04

justice punishment like this. I know that's

1:14:06

going to change their behavior. So

1:14:09

I brought up staff so I'll just leave with

1:14:11

this, but I went to the FBI website and

1:14:14

I wanted to know the percentage of

1:14:16

offenders who graduate

1:14:18

from harming animals

1:14:20

to other worst

1:14:23

crimes against humans. Because that is the

1:14:25

thing. We've heard of that in the past on many violent

1:14:27

crimes, mass shootings. Many

1:14:29

of them have a history with animals in the

1:14:31

younger years, previous years. Study

1:14:34

found that 60% of offenders

1:14:36

started abusing animals and graduated

1:14:38

to violent crimes against humans.

1:14:42

Unbelievably another 10% in

1:14:45

many circumstances offenders started

1:14:47

by hurting other humans

1:14:50

and then progressing to harming

1:14:52

animals. So when you're dealing

1:14:54

with these people and issuing justice, you're

1:14:57

trying to get them at the beginning of this

1:15:00

behavior and trying to slam it down. And

1:15:02

I don't know if that sense will keep

1:15:04

them from doing it again. But there's the

1:15:06

comedy nominator, the proven ones, that

1:15:08

they graduate to other crimes against

1:15:10

humans and continue. They'll never

1:15:12

stop. They don't get the buzz that they get.

1:15:14

They have to increase the amount of harm and

1:15:17

the damage that they do to their victims, whether

1:15:19

it's human or an animal. I

1:15:22

don't have a perfect answer, but

1:15:24

there's something better. There

1:15:26

has to, but again, the fact

1:15:28

that this was everything

1:15:30

from investigation, arrest,

1:15:33

prosecution, sentencing, and

1:15:36

jail time, extraordinary. We don't see

1:15:38

this very often, so it's an

1:15:40

extraordinary case that way. We hope

1:15:43

that it sets the

1:15:45

tone here for other jurisdictions to

1:15:48

take these cases really seriously. But

1:15:50

I do believe that your video

1:15:52

is what undid everyone, because when people saw

1:15:54

a pretty girl being ripped out of her

1:15:56

crate like that, we all came undone. And

1:15:59

as I said, I've been following this case for such

1:16:01

a long time. I do have, you

1:16:04

said that her paw imprint is

1:16:06

at your office and I've got

1:16:09

Jackie's upstairs. Where's

1:16:11

her collar? We

1:16:17

actually decided to bury

1:16:19

her collar at our facility

1:16:21

because it gave

1:16:26

us very bad

1:16:28

memories. Everything associated that

1:16:31

tied back to that situation and we didn't

1:16:33

want to just remember her for that. We

1:16:36

wanted to remember her who she was for

1:16:38

that year that we had her and that

1:16:41

growth that she showed and the potential she

1:16:43

showed. But every time we

1:16:45

looked at that we just thought of what

1:16:48

he did and the fact that she was

1:16:50

gone because of it. So it is it is

1:16:53

buried. It is gone. So

1:16:56

we just her paw and remember her that way. It's

1:16:59

you know I was visiting with Lewis in Seattle

1:17:01

this weekend and I was in his truck and

1:17:05

wrapped around his headrest of his

1:17:07

truck is rookie was a German

1:17:09

Shepherd, rookie's collar

1:17:12

and every time Lewis drives you can

1:17:14

hear his tags jingling. Yeah I love

1:17:16

that. He's there. Yeah I

1:17:18

love that. That says

1:17:20

everything about who Lewis is and then Lewis

1:17:23

said to me well where is where's Jackie

1:17:25

O's collar and I said she's

1:17:27

on my nightstand right next to my bed. I

1:17:32

love that. That's why I wanted to know where her collar

1:17:34

was because it's just like it's

1:17:36

a very meaningful part of them you know it's

1:17:38

a very meaningful part of them. Right.

1:17:42

It's almost like he just

1:17:45

he tarnished that dress

1:17:48

and that was really hard but

1:17:50

I'm not sure. I

1:17:53

truly hope that with this thought process

1:17:55

and with more people becoming so aware

1:17:59

and people are becoming so involved

1:18:03

with animal welfare and the

1:18:05

compassion behind it that it's

1:18:07

just starting the precedents. And I

1:18:09

do love what you said, Louis, about having

1:18:11

like a Megan's Law. My rest,

1:18:14

we've been saying that for so long. And

1:18:16

in our system, we have something like

1:18:18

that. But

1:18:20

that's just us. And if we had

1:18:22

some of this universal bank

1:18:25

of information of people who

1:18:27

just should not

1:18:29

be near or around, you know, I mean, that would

1:18:33

my pool of people is

1:18:35

already so small. And I would probably

1:18:37

just diminish it more. You wouldn't

1:18:39

want any of these people in your pool anyway. So

1:18:41

that's OK. That's a good slice of

1:18:43

the pie. Well,

1:18:48

Brittany, I know this has been

1:18:50

very painful. But hopefully,

1:18:52

you know, some good in

1:18:54

sharing this story for others and

1:18:57

a reminder that if you do believe

1:18:59

that you have witnessed animal cruelty to

1:19:01

please call it into the authorities with

1:19:04

the hopes that they will take it seriously. Just

1:19:07

a little bit more about paw works. You

1:19:09

know, we have people from around the country

1:19:11

and actually the globe listen

1:19:13

and watch this podcast. Where

1:19:16

can people find you? What's

1:19:18

your process for adoption? Where

1:19:21

are you on social media? All that good stuff. So

1:19:25

we are a nonprofit animal rescue.

1:19:27

We're actually very small for the

1:19:30

amount that we pull. But we're

1:19:32

based in Ventura County and

1:19:34

we pull from all over California as

1:19:36

euthanization lists, high kill shelters, rural areas,

1:19:40

places that are significantly affected with

1:19:42

minimal health. And

1:19:44

to date, we've rescued just over 16000 animals

1:19:47

from use it being used in 2014. So

1:19:50

we're hoping to keep that going. And

1:19:53

whether you live here or not, We'd

1:19:56

love to have your support, whether

1:19:58

that be a donation. The adoption

1:20:00

you know we do it up at

1:20:02

a stay at even adopted to.it as

1:20:05

Canada's to settle we're just looking for

1:20:07

good fum for these animals and you

1:20:09

can check out our website which is

1:20:12

Paul works or or or or social

1:20:14

1:20:16

1:20:18

Be with bugs he guy at more

1:20:21

1:20:23

1:20:25

1:20:27

1:20:29

1:20:31

1:20:33

helps the dog like pretty girl that

1:20:35

the breakthrough that they need an it's

1:20:37

just a matter of. Spending.

1:20:39

Time with these animals. It makes

1:20:41

a huge difference. So if I if

1:20:44

you're wanting to get involved, just check

1:20:46

us out, check anybody else out and

1:20:48

1:20:50

And if you're looking to adopt a

1:20:53

1:20:55

1:20:57

1:21:00

meat process. We have open adoption center

1:21:02

hours Friday through Sunday. You can come

1:21:04

on down and meet with as many

1:21:06

of are adoptable kiddos as you'd like.

1:21:09

We just need an we have age

1:21:11

limit of twenty five. Make sure the

1:21:13

home that permits the animals in the

1:21:16

home whether you ran to release their

1:21:18

own h away from things like that,

1:21:20

photos of the home and yard but

1:21:23

mostly what we're looking for as we're

1:21:25

trying to find people with. Specific.

1:21:27

Lifestyle or availability in their

1:21:29

lifestyle change. And those animals.

1:21:32

So we're just. Looking.

1:21:34

To match you with your perfect

1:21:36

fit and one of work for the

1:21:38

council's. Can do that with you. Whether.

1:21:40

It's an adoption the of. Adult puppies,

1:21:43

seniors medical suit here I have

1:21:45

one dog that kind of aggressive

1:21:47

and one dogs that can't walk

1:21:50

so and one cat with no

1:21:52

i live so you take everything

1:21:54

from to fluffy little thing with

1:21:56

to harder to plays medical care

1:21:59

and but. It all have one thing in common

1:22:01

is that they. All deserve a home and.

1:22:04

How. Make that happen. Seven Super. It.

1:22:07

Was. Easy interview D M up on social media

1:22:09

your years the corresponding with me some happy to

1:22:11

answer any questions. I also use your the person

1:22:13

I've been be amongst. Us.

1:22:16

It's so when it is. I

1:22:18

actually went jackie past and I

1:22:20

was just so heartbroken. I'm I.

1:22:23

Made it my mission to help. Every

1:22:25

rescue I could to see came from

1:22:27

the Van Eyes Animal Shelter. That's where

1:22:29

I found jackets and ah, I went

1:22:32

to your fundraisers and you do this

1:22:34

beautiful thing at your fundraiser. Your volunteers

1:22:36

brings some of the animals that are

1:22:39

available for adoption. And I

1:22:41

just stood there and I was just.

1:22:43

Holding a dog and crying and it was

1:22:45

the best thing ever since Sept. Best.

1:22:47

Thing ever taken me cry thinking about

1:22:50

it is it's that is say crazy

1:22:52

feeling it so cathartic were a year

1:22:54

just and we do that cause we

1:22:56

want people to understand. It's.

1:22:59

So hard. When you're doing these

1:23:01

gay allies or fundraisers, sometimes you're

1:23:03

there. You know the concept, You

1:23:05

know why you're fundraising by a

1:23:07

become sister. And she is

1:23:09

then to and you're thinking about that

1:23:11

and what's in that moment. So we

1:23:13

like to bring our rescue to remind

1:23:15

everybody likes these are the animals here

1:23:17

helping I with these are the faces

1:23:19

you're saving and this is why we're

1:23:21

so grateful for you to come to

1:23:23

these things and. To. Have that

1:23:26

connection. Ah, I do it all the

1:23:28

time. I'm probably the most emotional person

1:23:30

ourselves if you ever see me like

1:23:32

in a corner crying. I've usually hugging

1:23:34

and animals as if this is serving

1:23:36

getting out of be release for the

1:23:38

day but I sat with one. You're

1:23:41

volunteers and learn so much about your

1:23:43

organization from your volunteer. Also a

1:23:45

foster and travels a long. Distance to

1:23:47

help you and so I know what

1:23:49

you're saying. The bougie thing is like

1:23:51

all the celebrities that okay that's a

1:23:54

fair but really the be entire. right?

1:23:56

The entire audience almost. Is

1:23:59

just a bunch of. People who just care

1:24:01

about animals and and want them to be

1:24:03

safe. Yeah, It's true, we're so

1:24:05

blessed and we always want to

1:24:07

make sure about even if we,

1:24:09

if and when we grow and

1:24:11

when we do these things We

1:24:13

have our grassroots and we are

1:24:16

so grateful to have so many

1:24:18

volunteers and fosters in the community

1:24:20

because they make the difference. We.

1:24:23

Are they said? We are small

1:24:25

so our funding is limited for

1:24:27

staffing and without these volunteers. It

1:24:30

is it wouldn't be possible and were

1:24:32

so blessed and all of those people

1:24:34

who show and and we know we

1:24:36

know that the is bigger events are

1:24:38

kinda pricey system even hop what other

1:24:40

events throughout our community all the time

1:24:43

because we think it's very important to

1:24:45

be leads into outer community it's not

1:24:47

just the big bushy of and those

1:24:49

are. They're. Fine there for

1:24:51

finance I say. it's nice to not

1:24:53

look like I'm covered in dog poop

1:24:55

all the time of it's those people

1:24:57

who see me covered in dog poop

1:25:00

that don't recognize me at these breezy

1:25:02

events because I look so clean. Those

1:25:04

are the one of I you know

1:25:06

make this possible. Truly. Or

1:25:09

Britney and it's been a pleasure to get to

1:25:11

know you and. I'm very sorry for everything

1:25:13

you've been through, but I am so grateful.

1:25:15

That you and Paul works exists. Thank.

1:25:18

You and I'm so sorry for your guys

1:25:20

have lost to, I can't even imagine, so

1:25:22

are hard or whole team are you guys

1:25:24

and we appreciate. Highlighting

1:25:26

Animal cruelty and and and

1:25:29

I'm. Prosecution. Said think

1:25:31

you. Could. You briefly

1:25:33

but you feel great work. He rejoined.

1:25:35

Louis. This has been. A

1:25:38

truly special podcast and emotional one. I'm

1:25:40

a special one though, and one that

1:25:42

I think is important so thank you

1:25:45

so much or how they do this.

1:25:48

So you needed to be done and

1:25:50

I'm glad we didn't blood. Very proud

1:25:52

to be Park so thank you thank

1:25:54

you. So loose.

1:25:56

Where can people. find you on

1:25:59

so media or elsewhere? Yes

1:26:02

ma'am. I meant

1:26:04

getbitinvestigations.com. My entire social media footprint

1:26:06

is there. Thank you. That

1:26:08

makes it much easier. I'm

1:26:11

Anna Jeanie, who's Anna with 1n and

1:26:13

I do post a lot about dogs rescues

1:26:16

with my work for a purposeful

1:26:19

rescue here in Los Angeles and

1:26:22

we know so many of you are true animal

1:26:25

lovers. You know, Lewis, one

1:26:28

of our subscribers is a member of

1:26:30

the Michigan Chihuahua Club. You know, on

1:26:32

Facebook, it's a Facebook page for Michigan

1:26:35

Chihuahuas and they invited me even though

1:26:37

I'm in LA to join and I

1:26:39

was just so touched. So touched.

1:26:41

Wow. I just want to

1:26:43

add PawWorks,

1:26:46

it is an amazing organization but

1:26:49

like you mentioned earlier, there are many

1:26:51

many organizations across the country that

1:26:53

are like PawWorks and the

1:26:55

organization that helped find

1:26:58

rookie and rescue rookie, my dog, and

1:27:01

hooked us together. One of

1:27:03

the things they did and all these

1:27:05

organizations do that I find so fascinating,

1:27:07

this is passionate, these folks are, but

1:27:10

when there's an emergency

1:27:12

or catastrophe like

1:27:14

a fire, that's a rookie situation.

1:27:17

Law enforcement emergency crews many times won't

1:27:20

go into areas where it's just out

1:27:22

of control. They pull people out of

1:27:24

there, they won't go in there to

1:27:26

rescue animals, they just don't. But

1:27:29

the rest of you that brought

1:27:31

a rookie to me, 19 girls

1:27:34

strong, they would and

1:27:36

they did and they saw a rookie on

1:27:38

the news almost every day running through these

1:27:41

fires that fire closing in. They

1:27:43

chased him and they got him and he

1:27:45

was hurt, he was burned and they took

1:27:47

him to the shelter and got tons of

1:27:50

media for it and you know

1:27:52

I was one of thousands of people who got to

1:27:55

write a letter that tried to adopt that dog. I

1:27:57

saw him and I knew I wanted him to be

1:27:59

a good fit. And son

1:28:01

of a gun right ended up with him but

1:28:03

only because of the work that these organizations

1:28:05

put in they changed My

1:28:07

life and I think they changed rookies life

1:28:09

too, but while the benefit Incredible.

1:28:13

So thank you to every organization out there

1:28:15

that just kind of work It's just you're

1:28:17

heroes and you don't get enough attention

1:28:20

Yeah, I every time I look at that

1:28:22

video of the rescue organization

1:28:25

saving rookie who would end up being

1:28:27

your dog I just cry I just

1:28:30

cry so much because he was

1:28:32

so scared So

1:28:34

scared he was boy. Did he get

1:28:36

a great family? I Like

1:28:39

to think so he seemed pretty happy writing

1:28:41

deathly made me happy But yeah, we spent

1:28:43

a ton of time together, but would have

1:28:45

never happened unless these organizations existed Yeah,

1:28:48

so thank you. Yes all volunteers out there. Thank

1:28:50

you. Thank you for making a difference And you

1:28:52

know what even the people that work in the

1:28:54

animal shelters, you know They

1:28:57

have to make hard decisions, which of course Upsets

1:29:00

all of us but so many of them

1:29:02

are instrumental in working with these

1:29:04

rescues Like Brittany said that she the two people

1:29:06

who run the rescue where they got pretty girl

1:29:08

Constantly on the phone saying you got to come

1:29:11

you got to come and that's what happens with

1:29:13

a purposeful rescue We get

1:29:15

calls all the time from these special

1:29:18

workers or volunteers at at these shelters

1:29:20

who were like we got one here You got to come you got

1:29:22

to come And that's what

1:29:24

we do. I mean, there's nothing that's the only way

1:29:27

that's the only way it takes a village a village

1:29:29

of human beings right We're

1:29:34

all part of these communities so Again,

1:29:36
