2:25

of the business. All right, everybody gather

2:27

around, grab a chair, grab a beer,

2:29

let's talk some True Crime. ["The

2:52

Shooting Death of Kane Coronado." He was

2:55

shot on his bike on November 1st

2:57

on Indian Mounds Drive in Wyoming. Tonight,

2:59

police are now sharing a sketch of

3:01

a person of interest in his death.

3:04

13 on your side's Micah Cho is live from

3:06

where it happened with reaction from his family and

3:08

the new information from police, Micah. Good

3:11

afternoon. It was this exact spot where

3:14

Kane Coronado was killed. Back in November,

3:16

and all that's left here now is

3:19

this small memorial, this cross

3:21

here, and his family's

3:23

continued hunt for answers. Now,

3:25

investigators with the Wyoming Department

3:27

of Public Safety describes this

3:29

person they're looking for is

3:32

a 30-year-old male with a thin light or gray beard

3:35

and may have been wearing a beanie or

3:38

stocking cap. Police say he may

3:40

have been driving an older-style gray four-door car

3:42

as well. Coronado's grandma, Tanya

3:44

Ferguson, spoke with us this afternoon about

3:46

the subsex description coming out today. Ferguson

3:49

said that while they're glad there's now a

3:51

description, she's wondering why it took almost five

3:53

months for it to come out. Nonetheless,

3:56

every day, she and her family still hope they

3:58

can find justice for her grandson. I

4:01

want justice for Kane. I want

4:05

justice for my grandson. You,

4:10

whoever you are, took him. And

4:14

for what reason? There is no

4:16

reason. Kane

4:18

was shot at around three o'clock in the

4:20

afternoon here off of Indian Mountains Drive, so

4:22

the suspect would have been leaving this area

4:25

around that time. And if you have any

4:27

information on the murder of

4:29

Kane Coronado or the suspect that

4:31

you saw earlier this afternoon, you're

4:33

asked to call the Wyoming Department

4:35

of Public Safety or some observer.

4:38

The Well,

4:55

Captain, we've got to go

4:58

back to Tuesday, November 1st,

5:01

2022. This is to

5:03

Wyoming, not the state,

5:05

but the city of Wyoming. This

5:07

is Wyoming, Michigan. Police

5:09

were called to the 2200 block

5:12

of Indian Mounds Drive Southwest.

5:15

This was at 250 in the

5:18

afternoon. Police are responding to

5:20

a report of a shooting. The

5:22

shooting victim was 18-year-old Kane

5:25

Coronado, who was shot

5:27

in the neck. This youngster, Kane,

5:29

was an avid bike rider

5:31

and a rather skilled bike

5:33

rider at that. Wyoming police

5:35

were on the scene quickly. They

5:38

would later tell members of the media that Kane

5:40

was alone at the time of the shooting. A

5:43

nice person, a good Samaritan, stepped

5:45

in and was the first to

5:47

give Kane CPR, but unfortunately

5:50

Kane would not survive the gunshot. Captain,

5:53

it sounds like multiple shots were fired,

5:55

with only one hitting this young man,

5:58

but one was enough and very simple. Sadly,

6:00

on the afternoon of November 1st, 2022,

6:02

yet another community lost another one of its

6:06

young people due to gun violence. Well,

6:08

let's dive into some of the details

6:11

of the actual crime. What we do

6:13

know is he was out riding his

6:15

bike when he was shot. So sadly,

6:17

Kane died lying beside his beloved bike

6:19

on Indian Mounds Drive in

6:22

Wyoming, Michigan. Kane

6:24

Coronado is remembered as an 18-year-old who

6:26

was just learning to find his way

6:29

in this big world, a young man

6:31

who loved his friends and his bicycle.

6:34

It sounds to me, Captain,

6:36

like Kane was having some trouble

6:39

with home life and family life

6:41

in his teenage years. And

6:45

at the age of 18, when

6:47

he was 17, he was kind of

6:49

couchsurfing. He did live with his grandmother

6:51

for a while, and she's done some

6:53

interviews on this case with the local

6:55

news. Her name is Tanya Ferguson, and

6:58

police are still looking for whoever

7:01

did this. This

7:03

seems to be not

7:05

a targeted murder, but more of

7:07

a random murder. One

7:10

thing that I believe would have been

7:12

difficult for police in this investigation is

7:15

given his Kane social circle and his

7:18

family life. So he

7:20

did not have a traditional family

7:22

life or experience. And

7:24

I don't know the details of that or

7:27

why, but when he was 18,

7:29

he was no longer living with his family. He

7:31

did stay close with his grandmother. We know that.

7:34

And he was very close with one of his cousins. He

7:36

was living with some friends that were a little

7:39

bit older, I believe a husband and wife that

7:41

were four or five years older than

7:43

Kane. And Kane had got

7:45

a job. He dropped out of high school, but he

7:47

got a job as a dishwasher. He was actually

7:50

collecting a weekly check at this

7:52

point, and he was a

7:54

member of this group.

7:57

So this group was called the Big Rippers 611.

8:00

So Kane and his fellow bike riding friends

8:02

belong to a group called Big Rippers 616.

8:06

Shortly after the murder, that

8:08

group held a memorial ride for

8:10

Kane that they ran

8:12

from downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan to

8:15

Wyoming, Michigan, which is very

8:18

nearby. So this is all

8:20

taking place on the west side

8:22

of the state of Michigan. And

8:26

the area where he was shot

8:28

is called Millennium

8:30

Park. If you look up

8:32

some news articles online,

8:35

and there's several good ones out there

8:37

on this case, some

8:39

of them will show you exactly where

8:41

Kane was found. And

8:43

it's believed that he was, where

8:45

he was found is where the attack took

8:47

place. And

8:49

the strange thing about this is police

8:52

would tell us later that

8:54

they are looking for a suspect, that

8:56

they had at least one witness who

8:58

saw the shooter and

9:01

saw the shooter's vehicle. And

9:03

so we have a suspect description

9:05

and a vehicle description. But

9:08

the strange thing, and I was trying to get

9:10

in touch with some local people there

9:13

because I'm not familiar with this area,

9:16

but every map that I look at and

9:18

the description that's provided about this Millennium

9:21

Park, he's riding

9:23

a bike where people would

9:25

ride bikes, where people would walk, where people would

9:27

walk their dogs. Right. So

9:30

he wasn't riding on the road, he's in

9:32

a park. He crosses paths

9:36

somehow with a motorist.

9:39

And there's a chance that when their paths

9:41

cross that the motorist is driving

9:44

in an area where

9:46

there's no cars, where there's no traffic, where cars

9:49

should not be. Very

9:51

strange. Yeah. And this is

9:53

one detail that I wish that we knew. And

9:55

of course, when we go through these cases, there's

9:58

a reason why they are unsolved and there's

10:01

a lot of blanks to be filled

10:03

in. Somebody obviously was

10:05

very angry with Kane, whether

10:08

the person knew Kane or not. It seems

10:10

to be that police think that the shooter

10:13

did not know the victim and the

10:15

victim did not know the shooter. And

10:18

so something took place while he

10:20

was out riding his bike that

10:22

day. Did their first interaction

10:24

take place and then he's gunned down right

10:26

then and there or did

10:28

they cross paths prior? Can we

10:31

go over the eyewitness accounts

10:33

of the event? The crazy thing

10:36

here, Captain, is we

10:38

know that police say that they

10:41

were interviewing and talking to witnesses,

10:43

plural, at the scene, which would

10:45

make sense. This is a murder that took place

10:49

in broad daylight and

10:52

the victim shot. The

10:54

call comes in at 250 in the afternoon. So the victim

10:57

shot prior to that, that Good

10:59

Samaritan is attempting to save

11:01

his life performing CPR on Kane.

11:04

We know that police were

11:07

interviewing witnesses, plural. One

11:09

thing that I would like

11:12

some clarification on is later

11:14

when we get the description

11:17

of the shooter, that

11:21

description is usually prefaced

11:24

by saying a witness

11:26

saw and then it gives

11:28

the description. So I wanted

11:31

to know how many people saw

11:34

this vehicle and saw the

11:36

shooter and do we

11:38

have a mixed back? Do we have several

11:41

people that saw the vehicle but

11:43

not the shooter? And

11:46

so unfortunately, as we said, Kane's

11:48

out riding, he's riding this 26-inch

11:50

bike. Most of the pictures that

11:53

I've seen of him, he's riding what I would

11:55

describe as a mountain bike, a

11:57

larger bike. He was known as

11:59

the the, one

12:01

of the nicknames that this group gave him

12:03

was the wheelie king of

12:05

Grand Rapids. That was my

12:08

nickname in high school. I wish

12:10

that was my nickname in high school, the

12:12

wheelie king. They show a lot of pictures

12:14

of him online where he is, he's riding

12:16

a wheelie, front wheel in the air, back

12:19

wheel on the asphalt, and he's in, and

12:21

doing it comfortably. So they called him the

12:23

wheelie king of Grand Rapids. And

12:26

one person, Matthew Wayne Crawford, who was

12:28

a friend and a member of this

12:30

biking group, he said,

12:32

quote, Kane could wheelie further

12:34

than anyone in Grand Rapids. And that's

12:37

a fact. Well, I'd like to take

12:39

him up on a challenge. The only

12:41

problem is my wheelies were done on

12:44

rollerblades. Kane didn't have a driver's

12:46

license, but he didn't just ride for

12:48

necessity. He rode for fun, as we said he

12:50

was a member of this group. So he's out

12:52

riding that day like anyone would expect

12:54

him to. What transpires after that

12:57

in that short period of time, we don't

12:59

know exactly. But what we are told is

13:01

police are saying, we are

13:03

looking for one, anyone that was

13:05

in this Millennium Park area between

13:07

the hours of two and 3pm

13:10

on November 1st, 2022. So

13:13

this is still a relatively fresh case. This

13:16

is not even two years old at this point with

13:18

us having this conversation. And

13:21

so we're looking for one, anyone that was in

13:23

the area between the hours of two and 3pm

13:26

on November 1st, 2022. They're

13:28

also looking for the person that's described as

13:31

the shooter. So as

13:33

far as an autopsy and a

13:35

lot of that information goes, there's

13:37

not a lot to discuss here.

13:40

Unfortunately, he was shot in

13:42

the neck and died on the scene. And

13:45

he was unable to tell the person

13:47

performing CPR or first responders or police

13:49

when they arrived on the scene very

13:52

quickly who shot him. The description

13:54

we get of the crime and

13:56

of the shooting, it's

13:59

described as You know, I

14:01

heard several shots is what

14:03

one of the ear witnesses is telling police.

14:05

I heard several shots I

14:07

don't know how many shots exactly were fired Unfortunately,

14:10

we do know that one hit this

14:13

young man in the neck and that is what

14:15

killed him I don't know

14:17

captain if the the ear witness is

14:19

the same as the eyewitness who? Spotted

14:22

the suspect but I would

14:24

like to talk about this suspect here because

14:26

this is something that police and the

14:29

the Wyoming Michigan Police

14:31

Department would want discussed this is something

14:34

that we need to crowdsource and I

14:36

know that they've attempted to crowdsource this

14:39

Locally, I would imagine that

14:41

they've received some tips over time here.

14:43

But with this

14:46

case one thing that

14:48

I found odd is the Description

14:51

is not available to the public

14:54

in the early stages of the investigation That

14:57

is wonky-donkey. That doesn't make

14:59

any sense Well, and I have

15:02

to I have to believe

15:04

that there's likely good reason for

15:06

that That's what makes

15:08

me suspect that maybe there's more than

15:10

one eyewitness one would hope but but

15:13

I think you're spot-on if

15:15

there's multiple eyewitnesses and One

15:18

witness is saying well, I saw a younger

15:20

man or I saw an older man go

15:23

back to the Delphi case Right.

15:26

We have a sketch of one man and then years

15:29

later. We have a sketch of a younger man

15:32

so Okay, so maybe it

15:34

is a little wonky-donkey. But if

15:36

I'm law enforcement and I have multiple

15:40

Depictions of this person and

15:43

they're not lining up and

15:46

we know I would surmise

15:50

That these eyewitnesses aren't lying to

15:53

law enforcement But

15:56

again, I was a banker before

15:58

I was a captain as a banker and

16:01

they did test after test after

16:03

test four people could get robbed

16:05

and they have four different descriptions

16:08

of the robber. It's just

16:10

human nature especially in such a

16:13

dramatic situation. Well what we

16:16

did get in the

16:18

early stages of the investigation was

16:20

a vehicle description. So

16:22

police were looking for a vehicle

16:24

that has been described as a

16:27

gray or silver four-door

16:31

Chevrolet Cavalier 2000

16:34

to 2005 model. Also

16:36

known as the buttface mobile because

16:39

whoever shot him is

16:41

a buttface. Well one thing

16:43

that I'm curious about here captain I'll

16:45

call you George gray or silver four-door

16:48

Chevrolet Cavalier 2000 to 2005 model. That

16:52

is rather descriptive to go to

16:54

make and model and narrow it

16:56

down to a few years. We've

16:58

seen this in other cases typically

17:00

what happens here is you

17:03

go from getting a

17:05

description of the vehicle

17:07

from eyewitnesses to then

17:09

showing them here's a 2001

17:11

Chevy Cavalier four-door did it look like this.

17:14

Here's a you show them pictures of

17:16

multiple vehicles and which one did it

17:18

look like. Unless somebody specifically

17:21

told them it's a

17:23

Chevy Cavalier how did you know is a Chevy Cavalier.

17:25

Well I've seen a thousand of them or I used

17:27

to own one. Right. I believe

17:30

somebody that used to own one. I mean

17:32

it's hard it's hard to even

17:34

admit if you owned a Chevy

17:36

Cavalier. Well the

17:39

other part of that is

17:41

some of the news that's

17:44

that's come out looking for the

17:46

suspect has a slightly

17:49

different description. So again described as a

17:51

gray or silver four-door Chevy Cavalier but

17:53

but they say in those other descriptions

17:56

that it was a gray or silver

17:58

four-door vehicle. likely

18:01

or similar to a Chevy Cavalier 2000

18:03

to 2005 model year. It's

18:08

tough though too, because cars,

18:10

especially a Chevy

18:12

Cavalier, which was so popular and

18:14

if anybody's butt hurt, guess what,

18:16

the captain owned and drove a

18:19

Chevy Cavalier. So it's very Cavalier

18:21

of you. It's very Cavalier of

18:23

me to say, but they

18:26

change their models often. So it's like sometimes

18:28

when they come out with a new model,

18:30

it looks more like a Malibu

18:33

or whatever. Well, and

18:35

I wanted to be clear in that

18:37

statement because if this information should hit

18:39

somebody's ear balls and they think that

18:42

they have some relevant

18:44

information to provide

18:46

to police, don't

18:48

dismiss somebody as being a good

18:51

suspect just because they drove a

18:53

gray or silver four-door vehicle that

18:55

was not a Chevy Cavalier. Right.

18:58

Do, do have been afford escort.

19:01

Yes. Do know that some of

19:03

the, some of the

19:05

call for action here, some

19:07

of those calls to action are

19:09

saying that it was similar to a

19:12

Chevy Cavalier or could have been a

19:14

Chevy Cavalier. So don't dismiss somebody just

19:16

because it's not that exact make

19:18

and model. Later, what we

19:20

get is, hold on one second. Just

19:23

to repeat this over and over. If

19:26

you saw something, say something. If

19:29

you have any information at

19:31

all, say something. What's

19:34

the worst thing that could happen? They

19:36

take the report and

19:38

they don't use the information. It's,

19:41

it's better. And, and look, a

19:44

lot of people that witnessed crimes

19:47

years down the line, they'll feel guilty

19:51

and go, well, I need to tell police.

19:53

Well, if it's 10 years down the line

19:55

or 15 years down the line, the details

19:58

become more and more blurry. So

20:00

if you saw something say something the other

20:02

thing to hear captain is this case reminds

20:04

me of one That we

20:07

covered not too long ago And I don't want to

20:09

go into the specifics of that case and you know

20:11

why we don't need to inform

20:13

all the listeners on everything but in That

20:16

case it seemed like a random shooting that one

20:18

took place in the middle of the night similar

20:21

situation except for our victim was

20:23

not alone and we did have

20:25

a Witness in that

20:27

case. It was just simply an ear witness

20:30

So that case we had very little

20:33

information and it seemed like a stranger

20:35

on stranger crime That

20:37

their paths just happened across in the

20:39

middle of the night Somebody pulls out

20:41

a gun and shoots the other person

20:43

victim dies and in that case to

20:45

be honest with you While we when we

20:47

covered it and us delivering the information to all

20:50

the beautiful listeners out there. I was

20:54

Giving the tone of being hopeful that

20:56

the case would be solved while on the

20:59

inside feeling like it was

21:01

such a random crime and That

21:03

I didn't see the likelihood of it

21:06

being solved you and I now know

21:08

that it has been Solved

21:10

that they've definitively linked that

21:13

to a very good suspect in

21:15

that case to the point

21:17

where police Will be willing at

21:19

some point to say Such

21:21

and such person committed this murder

21:24

This case reminds me of that one because I

21:26

sit here and I go man this How

21:29

difficult can this be for detectives you

21:31

were when you arrive on the scene

21:33

you have a victim? Who

21:35

you have to spend days now

21:37

making sure that this wasn't a

21:40

target attack the targeted attack You

21:42

have to spend days making sure

21:44

that Cain didn't upset somebody or

21:46

aggravate Somebody in his social circle

21:48

or even in his family to

21:50

the point that they track

21:52

him down Find him on the street and gun

21:54

him down What

21:57

we do have is police telling us today

22:00

and actually within weeks of

22:03

their investigation, they

22:06

are saying, we've ruled that out. We've

22:09

ruled out the possibility of him being

22:11

targeted. We couldn't find anything or any

22:13

evidence to suggest that somebody would

22:16

want to take revenge

22:18

on Kane. So now what we're looking

22:20

for, what we're left with, is this

22:23

vehicle description and the description of the

22:25

suspect. So the suspect is described, and

22:28

Captain, you'll know what I'm talking about because we've

22:30

looked at this case now for a couple days.

22:33

I'm a little surprised at the, how

22:36

brief the description

22:40

is of this suspect when

22:42

the composite sketch of the

22:45

suspect is so detailed. Right. So

22:48

the brevity of the

22:51

description of this person seems

22:55

odd to me. So here's the description.

22:57

A witness described the suspect as a 30

22:59

year old white man. Anybody

23:03

that's seen the composite sketch will, I think

23:05

will agree with me that if

23:08

this man is 30, it's

23:10

been a rough 30 years for this person.

23:13

Yeah. A 30 year old white male,

23:16

he had a thin light

23:18

gray colored beard and

23:20

was wearing a beanie or stocking

23:23

cap. The witness also

23:25

recalled the suspect having a thin

23:27

build and wearing scruffy clothes. So

23:30

scruffy clothes is one thing. The

23:33

image of this person is scruffy from head

23:35

to toe, from the tip top of that

23:37

beanie cap to this

23:40

suspect's toes. His face

23:42

is disheveled to say the

23:45

least. Yeah. I see

23:47

the picture and you hear this

23:50

description. My thought was, does

23:52

this individual live in their car? The

23:55

other thing you're captain that's interesting, they

23:57

say scruffy clothes, scruffy.

24:00

beard too. This beard is it's

24:02

a disgrace to beards. Yeah he's a beardo

24:05

weirdo. But a weirdo beardo.

24:07

What we have is this

24:10

very detailed composite sketch. We

24:12

have the description of the vehicle that was seen

24:14

in the area at the time and

24:17

they're connecting these things

24:19

saying that this

24:21

is what's going to help us find the shooter, help

24:23

us find the killer. Right. What I'm

24:25

having a hard time wrapping my head

24:27

around is if somebody got this detailed

24:30

of a look of this

24:32

suspect how do we not have

24:34

a little bit better of

24:36

a description of the vehicle or even

24:38

some type of license plate information. Did

24:40

this car not have plates on it?

24:42

Right or in some states they only

24:44

have to have plates on the back.

24:46

Did they only see the car from

24:48

the front? Exactly. There's a little bit

24:51

of information that's missing here and I'm

24:53

hoping that police and

24:55

detectives are not holding back in

24:57

anything that could help provide additional

24:59

information to the public that could

25:01

get them the right tip coming

25:03

in. All

25:26

right we are back. Cheers

25:29

to you mates. Cheers to you Colonel. Cheers

25:31

to you Captain and cheers to everybody out

25:33

there. All the beautiful listeners

25:36

and the beautiful listeners are the ones

25:38

that we are talking to and police

25:40

are doing the right thing here Captain.

25:42

They are keeping this story in

25:45

the media. They're keeping the description

25:47

of the suspect, the suspect vehicle

25:49

in the media because they know

25:52

what is going to solve this case.

25:54

What is going to lead detectives to

25:56

their suspect is you, the listener,

25:58

you, the viewer out there

26:01

that will see something and say something

26:03

like the captain and I are requesting.

26:05

So we are reaching out

26:07

and addressing those of you up

26:10

in the great state of Michigan, especially the

26:12

west part of the state. Take

26:15

the time to go to our social

26:17

media. Take the time to

26:19

Google Cane Coronado's name and look

26:22

at the suspect description. Look at

26:24

the composite sketch of the

26:26

suspect and look at the vehicle.

26:28

So they even provided stock footage

26:31

or stock photo of a similar

26:34

type vehicle. So for those of you

26:36

that can't close your eyes and

26:38

create an image in your mind of

26:41

a Chevy Cavalier of those years

26:43

or if you need a bit of a refresher, they

26:45

have that information available for

26:47

your eyeballs on the

26:50

internet. And that's what we are hoping to

26:52

do this week. This is a case that

26:54

is near and dear to the

26:56

hearts of the people of this community. This

26:58

was a young man 18 years old. He's

27:00

doing what any of us

27:02

would want to do on a nice day,

27:04

right? Hop on a bike and take a

27:06

nice enjoyable bike ride down to the park

27:08

area. This millennium park where he

27:11

was shot, Cane

27:13

unfortunately was found shot near this park.

27:16

And it appears to me, I don't know captain,

27:18

was he making his way to the park or

27:20

coming from the park? If we

27:22

believe, and I do

27:24

believe captain, that this could be

27:27

a road rage type situation. If

27:29

that in fact is the truth, then my guess

27:31

would be that he was heading toward the park

27:34

because the park itself, while I've never been

27:36

there, is described as the

27:38

largest urban park in West Michigan. So

27:41

not just in this general area, the

27:43

largest urban park in the

27:45

West half of the state. It's

27:48

located on the Southwest side of

27:50

Grand Rapids. Remember Grand Rapids is

27:52

very near Wyoming, Michigan,

27:54

the city where this unfortunate event took

27:57

place. And the millennium park

27:59

connects four of the major

28:01

cities in the area altogether,

28:03

including Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Granville,

28:05

and Walker. So

28:08

this park is rather large. When

28:11

you see on the

28:13

map where he was shot, where

28:16

he was found, I think

28:18

it will be obvious to most that

28:20

he was probably making his way toward

28:22

that park because he

28:25

very likely would not have encountered

28:27

any cars while in

28:29

the park. And I apologize for

28:31

not giving a better description, but the

28:34

way that it looks to me and the way that it's laid

28:36

out does not suggest that there

28:38

would be cars driving around in this

28:40

park. Yeah, Ken, a hunch

28:42

of mine is possibly

28:44

somebody sleeping in their

28:46

car in a park or

28:49

living at their car

28:51

in a park. Yes. If

28:54

he was heading toward the park, he would have been coming

28:56

off of a busy road. And

28:58

so part of me wonders if that's where

29:00

he encountered the shooter. Right, maybe

29:02

it's a road rage situation where

29:05

maybe he was riding

29:07

his bike or cut off a

29:09

car or something happened and the driver

29:11

got pissed off and decided, well, I'm

29:13

going to show him. Yeah, so on

29:15

that path there, Captain, there should not

29:17

be vehicles on the path. He's not

29:19

on the actual path. He's

29:22

making his way toward that path. But

29:25

the location where

29:27

this went down, and again,

29:30

we have the ear witness who is saying, I

29:32

heard several shots. And

29:34

then we know that the Good Samaritan

29:37

then found the victim, attempts to perform

29:39

CPR, tries to

29:41

save the life of this young man. And

29:44

at this spot, the media,

29:46

the local news teams did some

29:48

gangbusters work on this case because

29:51

one thing they tell us and one thing they

29:53

discovered immediately when they went

29:56

to the area to report

29:58

the story and they started to say, talking

30:00

to people there, it was quickly pointed

30:02

out to the media that, look, you see

30:04

this sign? This sign says, do

30:07

not enter. This spot is one

30:09

way. But the people that

30:11

frequented this area, they start

30:13

telling the media, look, we

30:16

think that, and I think they're saying this

30:19

jokingly, but they're like, we

30:21

think that some people think that this

30:23

sign is just a suggestion because cars

30:25

are frequently coming into this do

30:28

not enter area. Now,

30:30

we've all been out driving and

30:32

encountered a situation where it's not

30:34

obvious. If you miss the sign

30:37

in certain locations, it's not obvious that

30:39

you're not supposed to drive into that

30:41

area. So that, to me, paints

30:43

a bit of a picture of maybe

30:45

how this went down. We have

30:48

an avid bike rider. This dude, Kane, loved

30:51

his bike. He loved being a part

30:53

of this bicycle group. He's the wheelie

30:55

king. The wheelie king of Grand Rapids.

30:58

There is none higher. You can see this

31:00

picture. He's out riding his bike, going

31:02

toward this millennium park, which would be

31:04

a desired location for one to go

31:06

and ride their bike. This

31:08

vehicle, this older model vehicle, 2000 to 2005 possible

31:10

Chevy Cavalier, enters going the wrong way, a

31:17

do not enter section of

31:19

the road. Did he

31:21

hit the young man on his bike? Was

31:24

there close

31:27

to a near miss? And

31:30

then some words exchange. And

31:32

now we have a road rate situation

31:34

where this guy, this man, again, described

31:36

as 30 years old,

31:39

male, white, scruffy

31:42

looking, very

31:44

ugly beard, wearing a

31:46

beanie cap, gets out, pulls

31:48

the gun, fires some shots

31:50

in the direction of this young man, one

31:52

of them hitting him. He gets in the

31:55

vehicle and flees the area. Yeah, captain

31:57

butt face. Unfortunately, we don't get a

31:59

witness. that can give us a license plate.

32:01

Yeah, Captain Butt Face and the Butt Face Mobile.

32:04

Back in the day, the captain, it

32:06

might surprise you, but I used to

32:08

babysit often. And I had

32:11

a scenario where we rode our bikes to

32:13

the park. It was just me. I

32:15

think he was in middle school at the time. And

32:17

he was very proficient at riding bikes. He

32:19

could do wheelies. He could jump

32:22

things. He could do tricks. And so,

32:25

he wanted to ride his bike. And I'm like,

32:27

well, your parents don't want me to let you

32:29

ride your bike by yourself. So I'll go with

32:31

you. Now I'm riding a bike

32:33

with him and we went to cross. It was a

32:35

little bit of a busier road, but we went to

32:37

cross. There was no cars that

32:40

we could see. So we started crossing and

32:43

a car drove by, thought that we

32:45

weren't crossing, I guess, the road fast

32:47

enough and honked at us. The

32:51

kid I was babysitting then flips the

32:53

bird. We are probably

32:55

five, six blocks

32:57

from his house. By

33:00

the time we get back to his house,

33:02

the car had turned around and

33:05

was then sitting in his

33:07

driveway. Two grown men now

33:09

want to fight a kid in high

33:12

school babysitting a kid in middle

33:15

school, just because they

33:17

honked their horn and a

33:19

kid in middle school flipped them off. That's

33:23

what I see happening. I'm not saying

33:26

that he flipped him the bird

33:28

or anything, but I'm just saying, I think there

33:30

was some kind of confrontation and

33:32

maybe, and call me

33:34

Captain Obvious, but maybe he was when

33:38

this confrontation happened, maybe

33:40

it happened on a busier section, and

33:42

he was trying to get to the

33:44

park, knowing that vehicles

33:46

can't come here. Does

33:49

that make any sense? A general description,

33:51

again, we've not been to this area,

33:53

so it's difficult for us to wrap

33:55

our heads around some of this, but

33:57

this Indian Mounds Drive Southwest is

34:00

is across the Grand

34:02

River from this very

34:05

large millennium park. And the park is

34:07

so large that it's difficult to ascertain

34:10

where the park starts and stops.

34:13

What is this Indian Mounds Drive part of

34:15

the park? Because when you look at it

34:17

on a map, that would seem to make

34:19

some sense. But I'm with

34:21

you. I think that this, look,

34:24

road rage is a real thing, unfortunately. And

34:26

it's caused some people to do some horrible

34:28

things to one another over the

34:30

years. And I don't

34:33

think that it's coincidence that

34:36

the media is reporting, hey, when we went

34:38

to this area and started talking to people,

34:40

the thing that was pointed out

34:42

to us is these cars that regularly

34:47

enter the wrong way. Or we

34:49

have cars where they should not

34:51

be, where people are out doing

34:53

recreational type activities. They're walking their

34:56

dogs. They're skating. They're

34:58

biking. Most people are not

35:00

going to react kindly to

35:03

a vehicle speeding by and almost hitting them

35:05

or hitting their dog. Yeah,

35:07

so you're saying it's

35:10

a situation where a car goes into

35:12

a place they're not supposed to be.

35:15

And then maybe at that moment,

35:17

he reacts. Hey, butt face,

35:19

you're not supposed to be driving your car

35:21

here. And then dude pulls a gun. And

35:23

now we know the rest of the story.

35:25

But so that Grand River is so

35:28

close to the street. When

35:30

police get to the scene, they're not just interviewing

35:33

anybody that they can find on

35:36

the road or people out doing

35:38

those recreational types of activities. They

35:41

also get in a boat. And

35:44

they are out looking for

35:46

people in boats that could

35:48

have possibly heard something or saw something

35:51

as well. So they were out actively

35:53

taking statements from anybody that they could

35:55

find in this area. And

35:57

then again, doing the right thing by

35:59

crossing. crowdsourcing by reaching out

36:01

to the general public in the community

36:03

and saying, we need information from

36:06

you. We've interviewed everybody in the area that

36:08

we could find there that day at that

36:10

time. We need other people. Were

36:12

you in the park that day? Were you

36:14

driving by and maybe you saw something important?

36:17

Maybe somehow you ended up behind this vehicle on

36:20

the road. You have a

36:22

highway there, 196, maybe you ended

36:24

up on the road behind this individual

36:26

in this vehicle. Again,

36:28

to be clear, they

36:30

are comparing the vehicle. Some

36:33

articles say Chevy Cavalier 2000 to 2005. Other

36:38

articles are saying that it's comparable

36:40

to or could be a

36:43

Chevy Cavalier. Some additional information

36:45

here on the suspect captain

36:48

is one, again,

36:51

one thing that was difficult for

36:53

me to understand is it

36:55

appears that this eyewitness gave a very

36:58

detailed description even though we get a

37:00

brief description word

37:02

wise. The

37:05

composite sketch is very detailed. Now

37:07

one other news outlet is

37:09

stating that the suspect

37:12

appears to be 30 years of age approximately

37:15

with a medium build and

37:18

a witness said that he had a thin

37:20

scruffy beard with concave

37:26

cheeks. All

37:30

this will be very obvious once

37:32

you see the composite sketch. Again,

37:34

we'll have that information for you on

37:36

our social media. I will

37:38

post a picture of the composite

37:41

sketch on Twitter, Instagram,

37:43

and Facebook. Please

37:45

share because somebody out there might go,

37:47

hey, that's my uncle. That's my uncle

37:49

butt face. Well, and every week we

37:51

thank you and we thank you for

37:53

listening and we thank you for telling

37:56

a friend even if you

37:58

don't share this episode with a friend. share

38:00

the composite sketch of the

38:03

suspect and share the description

38:05

of the vehicle with somebody

38:07

or on your social media

38:10

as well. Right. We always

38:12

look at crime trends in the area

38:15

when we're looking at these cases because we want

38:17

to know what's going on. Is

38:19

there is there something a bigger thing

38:21

going on in this area that

38:23

could give us some insights into

38:26

who we might be looking for.

38:28

So I found this bit of

38:31

information from a source called M

38:33

live and they're

38:35

discussing the gun assaults

38:38

and gun violence. Increasing

38:40

in this in this

38:42

exact area around this exact time

38:44

and I'll read you the report that I found

38:46

it short hair captain it states that from 2020

38:49

the years 2020 through 2022. Those

38:54

were the deadliest years in

38:56

Grand Rapids has seen with

38:58

a 72% increase in gun

39:01

assaults now. This

39:03

article is from 2023 so

39:06

I don't know if that

39:08

increase continued beyond 2022 but

39:10

unfortunately Kane Coronado was killed

39:13

November 1st 2022. 72%

39:17

increase in gun assaults in the Grand

39:19

Rapids area the greater Grand Rapids area

39:22

goes on to say additionally Grand Rapids recorded

39:24

around 23 homicide cases in

39:26

the year of 2022. Making

39:29

it the second deadliest year in

39:32

the last five years with half

39:34

of the cases according to M

39:36

live being preventable and I'm guessing

39:39

law enforcement are telling. M

39:41

live half of these cases 23 homicides

39:46

were preventable this is another

39:48

article from late last year actually came out December 27

39:50

2023 this is from wood tv.com. I

39:56

believe that they're at a Grand Rapids Michigan here

39:58

captain they are stating. West

40:00

Michigan's chief federal prosecutor

40:04

says the region's urban

40:06

areas continue to see a rise

40:08

in violent crime. In

40:10

a wide-ranging interview with

40:12

News 8, the

40:15

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of

40:17

Michigan highlighted several concerning crime trends that

40:19

have taken lives in the year of

40:22

2023. The

40:24

citing illegal guns getting into the

40:26

wrong hands is partly

40:28

driving the surge in gun

40:30

violence. Quote, we have

40:33

a proliferation of illegal

40:35

guns in our communities right now,

40:37

which is helping drive the gun

40:39

violence epidemic, which is

40:41

killing more young people than ever

40:43

before. This man,

40:45

the attorney general in the area,

40:47

his name is Mark Totten, and

40:50

he goes on to say, quote, it's the

40:52

number one killer of young people right now, and

40:54

quote. It's sad. I said it last week.

40:56

We can do better. We should do better. And

40:58

I don't want to get into a whole

41:00

gun debate. Longtime listeners of

41:02

the show will know that

41:04

we are pro-gun for the most

41:07

part, but everything

41:09

can be corrected. Stop saying we,

41:11

unless you have a mouse in

41:13

your pocket. I do have

41:16

a mouse in my pocket and he is loaded. He

41:19

is armed to the yeah, he's got all kinds

41:21

of guns. Look,

41:24

while I am pro-gun, I also

41:26

believe that every situation can be

41:29

sculpted, can be tailored, and can

41:31

be tightened and tweaked to

41:33

fit the community. All right. I don't want

41:35

to make it a hard and fast rule

41:37

and say, nope, I'm right. You're wrong. No,

41:39

no, everything is up for debate as far

41:41

as I'm concerned. You're flexible on this.

41:44

Stay water is what we always say. Every

41:46

situation is a fluid situation. But

41:49

one thing that I absolutely hate and

41:51

will not stand for is guns getting

41:54

in the hands in the wrong hands.

41:56

So listen to this information. It states that a

41:59

man by the name of Jerrell

42:01

Martin of Grand Rapids. This

42:03

is recently, this is from 2023, he was

42:05

sentenced to

42:07

just over three years in prison, this

42:10

for buying at least 45 guns

42:13

and selling them to

42:16

convicted felons. Who is not supposed

42:18

to have guns? Convicted

42:20

felons. Who is not supposed

42:22

to have guns? Convicted felons. This

42:24

guy was getting his hands

42:27

on a bunch of guns and then

42:29

selling them to convicted felons. 45 guns

42:31

in fact. A year for every

42:33

gun he sold. A case that we covered last

42:35

week, a man

42:37

gets out of prison, goes and

42:39

kills another man in his apartment

42:41

using a firearm. Guess

42:44

what? He's not supposed to have a gun

42:46

either. I hope that

42:48

when Sheldon Johnson is

42:51

convicted, and I hope what they're working on right

42:53

now is figuring out how he got his hands

42:55

on that gun. Because

42:57

there could be a situation like

42:59

that in the Bronx

43:02

where you got somebody selling guns

43:04

to convicted felons. Putting

43:06

the guns in the hands of bad people. And

43:09

I really wish, do

43:11

you know how much damage 45 guns

43:14

being sold illegally to convicted felons could

43:16

do? I

43:20

don't think that three years in prison, I

43:23

don't think that that is a large enough

43:25

sentence a lengthy enough sentence to

43:28

deter some of these people from doing

43:30

such an act. You go, oh I might get

43:34

a couple years. It's worth risking

43:37

the biscuit. You need to

43:39

make sure that the sentence that they

43:41

get is not worth them risking

43:43

the biscuit. If they go, hey if I

43:46

get caught selling these guns, I

43:48

get five years for every gun I sold

43:50

and I sold 40 of them, I'm

43:53

not risking that biscuit. I remember a time

43:55

where in some states you would get a

43:58

lengthier prison sentence for selling marijuana. than

44:01

for selling 45 guns

44:03

to convicted felons. Now, ridiculous. And

44:06

I said, do you know what kind of damage

44:08

that could cause? Somewhere there's somebody yelling at me

44:10

and guess what? You should yell at me. I'm

44:12

not always right. Yell at me all you want.

44:14

He's mostly wrong. Yelling at me. Don't

44:16

yell at the mouse in my pocket. He did nothing wrong.

44:19

He just owns a lot of guns. He's

44:21

my only friend. You

44:24

might say stop speculating what this guy could have

44:26

done or what damage could have been done. I

44:28

don't have to speculate. Because here

44:30

we go. According to a federal indictment, this

44:33

is at the federal level, at about the highest level

44:35

that they get. According to a

44:37

federal indictment on this

44:39

specific case, those weapons that were

44:41

sold, it's been confirmed

44:44

by law enforcement that those

44:46

weapons were used in multiple

44:48

shootings in West Michigan. Some

44:51

of which turned deadly. This is

44:53

their words, not mine. Look, the

44:55

criminals, if they want to kill

44:58

somebody, they're going to kill you with a gun, kill

45:00

you with a knife, they'll strangle you. It's

45:03

against the law to sell firearms

45:05

to a felon. And so

45:08

if you do so, you should, again,

45:10

spend way longer than

45:12

three years in prison. And we know that,

45:15

oh, he was well behaved, so he

45:17

got out in a year. But back

45:19

to this case, what can listeners do to

45:22

help bring justice in this case? People,

45:24

you band together. Communities

45:27

band together. When

45:30

citizens, when good people unite, that's

45:32

how we fight crime. That's

45:34

how we fight gun violence. And

45:37

I want to take this moment

45:40

here to get the listeners angry, because sometimes

45:42

you have to get people angry to

45:44

get action. From

45:46

that illegal guns case

45:49

that we just discussed, of

45:51

those firearms that were sold to

45:53

convicted felons, one of them was

45:55

used to kill somebody in the

45:57

city of Flint, Michigan. One

46:00

of those guns fired multiple shots on

46:03

the blue bridge when it was

46:05

filled with people in downtown Grand

46:07

Rapids, Michigan. And

46:09

one unfortunately killed a two-year-old

46:11

in Wyoming, Michigan. Jesus Christ.

46:13

So the call to action here,

46:15

people, is share this composite

46:18

sketch of the suspect who is

46:20

responsible for the death and the

46:22

murder of Cane Coronado. A

46:24

young man who was 18 years old, out

46:26

riding his bike. This was

46:28

a man just starting his life, working

46:32

his first job, living

46:34

in a good situation with good

46:36

people, and working to better himself.

46:38

On the hell, he's the wheelie

46:40

king. And I want to applaud

46:42

the Wyoming Police Department

46:44

for keeping this case in the

46:46

media. For keeping the suspect

46:48

composite sketch in the media,

46:51

keeping the vehicle description in

46:53

the media, and readily available to

46:56

the eyeballs of all. And here we

46:58

are delivering it to the ear balls

47:00

of everybody willing to listen. This

47:03

is a case that as

47:05

random as the crime may seem

47:08

on the surface, as

47:10

we talked about in the first half of the show,

47:14

a very similar crime in the state

47:16

of Ohio happened not too long ago,

47:18

that seemed just as random. And

47:20

maybe even a little hopeless at the time

47:22

when we reported on it. But

47:25

that case has found,

47:27

that file has now moved into

47:29

the solved pile. And

47:32

the very least that we could do for

47:34

Cane is to share this

47:36

information and find this person. This

47:38

person is very distinct

47:40

looking. And we

47:44

want to share this composite

47:46

sketch in hopes that

47:49

the right person sees it

47:51

and can provide the right

47:53

information to law enforcement. There

47:56

is a reward for information

47:58

in this case. one-time

48:00

captain, that reward was $5,000. I believe

48:02

it's been increased to $6,000. This

48:07

is being offered by an

48:09

organization called Silent Observer. They're

48:11

offering cash for information regarding this

48:14

case. A reward will go

48:16

to anyone who helps police find the

48:18

suspect. We have crime stoppers

48:20

that's involved as well. So if you

48:23

want to call in a tip anonymously,

48:25

you can do so with the local

48:27

crime stoppers. But

48:29

the investigating agency is the

48:31

Wyoming Michigan Police Department. Anyone

48:34

with information regarding the murder

48:37

of Kane Coronado that took

48:39

place November 1st, 2022, please

48:42

reach out to the

48:44

Wyoming Michigan Police Department.

48:47

You can reach them at 616-530-7309. You

49:08

49:19

have any recommended reading for the beautiful listeners?

49:22

This is one of my, maybe

49:24

my favorite true crime book to have

49:26

come out this year so far. So

49:29

this is by a great guy. His

49:31

name is Bob Cyphers. He's an award-winning

49:33

journalist and CBS reporter. I

49:36

was familiar with his work before this

49:38

book came out. This is his first true crime

49:40

book and he was

49:42

one of the original newspaper

49:44

and news reporters covering

49:46

the case when it first happened back in

49:48

1992. So the name of the book is

49:50

Dead End Inside the Hunt

49:53

for the Interstate 70 Serial

49:55

Killer by Bob Cyphers. A

49:58

little additional information here. For

50:00

those that don't remember back in 1992

50:03

a store clerk was found shot to

50:05

death in broad daylight at the boot

50:07

village in St. Charles, Missouri Nothing was

50:09

stolen. There was no sexual assault. So

50:12

the Motive seems

50:14

unclear here. This is a very bizarre Crime,

50:17

they thought it was an isolated

50:19

murder and later They find out

50:21

that there were others that were

50:23

connected to this murder other victims

50:25

in Indianapolis, Wichita Wichita, Tarahoe and

50:27

Raytown and the media quickly dubbed

50:29

the suspect the I-70 serial killer

50:31

He's never been caught never been

50:33

captured. Bob is keeping hopes alive

50:35

with this book. There's new information

50:37

in this book again It's called

50:40

dead end inside the hunt for

50:42

the interstate 70 serial killer by

50:44

Bob ciphers You can

50:46

find that recommendation and many

50:48

more on our recommended page on our

50:50

website true crime garage.com Thanks

50:52

for telling a friend thanks for telling

50:54

your mama and your papa until
