In 2007, Allison Duncan’s husband drained all of the bank accounts and kicked her out of the house, telling her “You are not welcome in my home.” A week later, his mistress moved in with him. This move left Allison homeless, penniless, and caring for a four-year-old child. She moved in with friends until she could find a job.
Her husband wanted Allison to give up all rightful claims to a fair split in the divorce, and he was incensed to find out that his eviction did not drive her to submit to his demands. He ambushed her with legal proceedings, surprise hearings, and most recently, abuse charges. He was outraged when a judge agreed with Allison, and required him to pay child support. Since that time, he has consistently refused to pay child support, leaving him over five-thousand dollars behind.
For years we have been fighting to keep this child in a safe environment with her mother. Her husband argues that spanking a child at all is abuse, despite the fact that he used to spank her before the split. If you are here, you know us. You know we would never abuse a child. He is doing everything in his power to manipulate the courts into taking Allison’s child away, so that he can force her to capitulate to his demands.
We will fight. We must fight. But the fight is taking it’s toll. We are now thousands of dollars into debt, and the recent abuse charges are going to require new costs for therapists, more legal help, and lots of long-distance travelling. We desperately need help.
I know this is a bad time for the tribe. The recent loss of Natalie Morris is fresh in our minds, as is the horrific disaster in Haiti. But we cannot hold off for a better time. We cannot stop fighting, and we desperately need your help.
There isn’t much I can offer in return. We can offer our heartfelt thanks to all who assist, and you will know that you have made a difference in the life of this wonderful little girl.
Thank you.
