A person should work hard in this world to earn blessings in the Hereafter. They should strive to obtain their spiritual needs (Ibadah, Adhkar etc.) and thus never waste any time. They should fulfil the responsibilities of the servanthood and never disobey Allâh Ta‘âlâ. Undoubtedly, Allâh Ta‘âlâ is al-Alim (All-Knowing), al-Hakim (All Wise), al-Qadir (Almighty). He creates everything with purpose and wisdom. There is nothing on His sovereignty that has been created without a goal or necessity. Therefore, the creation of human beings is not without purpose, either. On the contrary, they have been created so that they can do their duties as a servant of Allâh Ta‘âlâ and attain the everlasting divine nimahs (blessings) in the eternal world.

Allâh Almighty has bestowed upon human beings intellect, mind, numerous blessings, physical strength, and will power. He sent for them, prophets and scriptures to guide them to the true path. Despite all these blessings, if human beings continue to live in ghaflah (heedlessness), ignorance and misguidance neglect their duties as the servants of Allâh Ta‘âlâ; and if they become rebellious to Him, can they be excused in any way? Will they not deserve chastisement?

Allâh Subhânahû says, “….And do not forget your share of the world.” (Surah al-Qasas, verse 77). The share of the world denotes all that is beneficial for the Hereafter, namely righteous deeds, as explained in the Hadith al-Sharif which reads, “This world is the field for the hereafter”, Otherwise, the only share from this world is the shroud.

Hadhrat Umar Radhiyallâhu Anhu used to go to the masjid (mosque) before anybody else. One day, while going to the masjid (mosque), he saw a little boy rushing towards the masjid (mosque). Umar Radhiyallâhu Anhu asked the boy: “Why are you in such a rush to go to the mosque, Salaah is not even Fardh (obligatory) upon you.”

The boy replied, “O Amir al-Mu’minin (Leader of the believers), how should I not rush. Yesterday, a child younger than me passed away.” These words of the boy made Umar Radhiyallâhu Anhu cry a lot.
