Oh hi there! Today's episode has Anne guiding you through the many woes of Women's Work. Whether you're a woman working in a male-dominated field or woman-dominated industry, women's work tends to be overlooked, underpaid and definitely under-appreciated. Anne and Peggy talk all about it with Peggy's friend and colleague Ashley Shields-Muir of Big&Quiet Pictures as they share their experiences working in the male-dominated film industry. Anne contrasts their experiences with her work in a woman-dominated field, and - SPOILER ALERT- it's not much better!
Anne then gives you a rundown of the history of the labour movement and sex worker rights (or lack thereof) here in Canada. As we talk about the intersections of the feminist and labour movements, we induct the amazing prolific labour and civil rights activist and feminist Dolores Huerta into our League of Extraordinary Women.
Also, there's a new Underwire segment on the block! Each episode will spotlight a Canadian activist group whose work we love and tell you how to show your support and get involved. As our very first activist group spotlight, we talk about the work Justice for Migrant Workers (J4MW) is doing to advocate for migrant workers in Canada.
Finally, if all this talk about Women's Work has you thinking that capitalism is "all taking and no giving", you'll find fuel in Peggy's Feminist Anthem: 9 to 5 by the one and only Dolly Parton.
