This episode is on difficult conversations related to generational trauma, post-partum depression, suicide, divorce, and the effects all of those factors have on mother-daughter relationships.
So this episode is my mom’s story. She is someone who is notoriously private, and so I’m thankful for her choosing to have this conversation with me and for her allowing me to share with all of you.
What I’ve learned at this point and after interviewing a number of people is that there is something magical that happens when we share our stories - especially the ones that have caused us the most pain, shame, and guilt. When we share it with others, oftentimes we realize that we aren’t the only ones carrying the weight of those kinds of experiences. And knowing that makes the world feel a bit less lonely.
Heavy topics are discussed in this episode. Some people may be triggered by them. If you’re struggling with depression and/or suicidal thoughts, I want to encourage you to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (1-800-273-8255) as well as Crisis Text Line (https://www.crisistextline.org).
