The panelists emphasized the importance of relationships and community and discussed the need for rural primary care providers to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and knowing when to ask for help. They also highlighted the challenges of limited resources in rural hospitals and the need to recognize when a patient needs to be transferred to a different facility. The panelists shared their experiences of practicing medicine in rural communities and the rewards of being a part of the community they serve and encouraged students to consider rural medicine as a way to make a meaningful impact and develop long-lasting relationships.
