Welcome to our solo series - 'Unpack That' where we, two raging Leos get to have the stage. Join us as we unpack what we're reading watching or listening to. Everything from pop culture to politics, we will share our commentary on current events and all the topics that have inspired, infuriated or amused us.
And we will reflect on what our unlearnings have been for these mystery topics!
2021 has been quite a big year for females in Australian politics from the 'March 4 Justice', where we saw the moving and vulnerable speech from Brittany Higgins. To the release of two documentaries by ABC and SBS, that tell the story of sexism, misogyny and sexual harassment in parliament. Although women have paved their way and made their mark in politics over the years. To this day, there is still a very real and difficult battle for equality and equity.
During this episode we discuss (former) New South Wales Premier, Gladys Berejiklian's resignation and her ongoing ICAC investigation. We also reflect on the SBS documentary 'Strong Female Lead', which explores the sexism experienced by Julia Gillard during her time as Australia's first female prime minister. And we consider our own unconscious bias towards gender.
While this is not a topic either of us are experts in (we have a Vice Prime Minister, right?) we hope to highlight the power in knowledge and the vulnerability in opening up the conversation. Maybe you learn something with us, maybe you laugh with us, please listen with open minds and reflect on your own experience and knowledge in politics and how you might continue this conversation within your community.
