For the last few years, the Free Press has been tracking Michigan bridge conditions and funding. Here’s what bridges look like near you.
There are one hundred twenty-eight bridges in Van Buren County. Six percent are in poor condition, 60 percent are fair and 34 percent are rated in good shape. A bridge listed in poor condition does not necessarily mean it is unsafe. But it does mean the bridge needs attention. This year, the state transportation department is set to begin a pilot program to repair, replace or remove some locally owned bridges.
