As we know, staying active is so important for physical and mental health. Unfortunately though, women are much less likely to play team sport than men and by the age of 15, nearly one-third of girls will stop playing club sport. There are numerous reasons for this, such as inappropriate (or non-existent) women’s changing facilities and fewer female role models. Yet many of the reasons like wearing the right sports bra and understanding your menstrual cycle, can be addressed with some basic knowledge. Understanding how a good sports bra should fit and function is really important to reduce breast bounce that can damage breast tissue and to increase comfort. Knowing what is happening to your hormones during menstruation and how you feel in during your cycle is vital and validating. My guest this week, Dr Katherine Grellman, Sports and Exercise Physician Registrar, who has a special interest in female athlete health, expertly talks us through these issues and more. This episode is not just for women. It is my strong opinion that the more men (who can be fathers, partners, friends, coaches, teachers of girls and women) that understand these issues the better. It will not only help normalise what half our population deals with but increasing awareness about ways to keep girls and women active is important for everyone.DR KATHERINE GRELLMANDr Katherine Grellman at SPARC: https://www.sparc.com.au/staff/dr-katherine-grellmanSocial media handle: @sparc_sport5 COMMON NUTRITION MYTHS DEBUNKEDDownload my Free Guide and join the Vibrant Lives community here: https://vibrantlivespodcast.com/free-guide/LINKS MENTIONED IN THE PODCASTSports Bra Tool: https://bra.edu.auAIS Female Performance & Health Initiative: https://www.ais.gov.au/fphiHOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE PODCAST
