Chicago singer JC Brooks has gathered national attention and acclaim with his previous "punk soul" band The Uptown Sound. This year saw JC return with a new album and the next step in evolution of his sound and persona. Though the project is now under his own name, the band has embraced a more collaborative approach to writing music and moved beyond the simple "punk soul" formula of their past and into more exploratory territory that continues to bridge the retro and futuristic aesthetics that they're known for.
