Preventing Sexual Assault - Tactics and Firearms Instructor John Lovell gives an overview of the problem and gives tips to ensure listeners do not fall victim to sexual predators. The statistics are staggering (see following paragraph for more information on the validity/falsity of these statistics). 1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetimes and 1 in 6 men will be. Statistics such as this have come about from a handful of different comprehensive studies on sex crimes, one of which being the 'national Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey' which was supported by the Department of Defense and the National Institute of Justice. Media outlets such as the New York Times, Time Magazine, and major networks like Fox have covered this subject and cited similar findings. It is apparent that steps must be taken to raise awareness and prevention. The FBI reports significantly lower numbers because they are showing what is reported (and the majority of sexual assaults go unreported) and they are publishing statistics on a particular definition of rape as opposed to sexual assault. *Some studies show 1 in 4 are sexually assaulted, others 1 in 5 or 1 in 6, and still others will say all of these numbers are outrageously inflated because of reasons such as (1) the participation rate on these surveys are low and the most likely to respond are those who feel the most passionately, therefore the numbers are inflated. (2) the term 'sexual assault' was either not defined at all, or was so broadly defined, that it led the outcome of the survey to be exaggerated. For those who have 'debunked' the statistics above, others have come and debunked the debunkers, and so on. It is also important to note that some have confused the broader term of sexual assault with the more narrow term of 'rape' which again will lead to very different numbers. I think it is fair to say that no one can be sure of the real numbers because of the hidden nature of the crime, differences in definitions, lack of participation, lack of reporting, and victims reluctance to oftentimes to speak about. The numbers may be worse than what I communicated, and it is possible they are a good bit better. REGARDLESS - LET US MOVE TO PREVENT SEXUAL ASSAULT BECAUSE EVEN IF THE NUMBERS ARE 1 OUT OF 100, THAT IS STILL NOT ACCEPTABLE.In this video I attempt to relay some of the basic statistics, then cover the common ways and places people are raped or sexually victimized. Lastly, my goal is to give tips to aid in the prevention of those listening to falling prey to sexual predators.Be sure to subscribe and share! http://www.youtube.com/c/johnlovell275Follow John Lovell on Instagram:http://instagram.com/warriorpoetsocietyFollow John Lovell on Facebookhttp://facebook.com/warriorpoetsocietyTrain with John Lovell at Telluric Grouphttp://telluricgroup.com/pages/course...
