In collaboration with IMO, World Meteorological Organization is working on reducing the emissions and minimizing the environmental impacts of the marine transportation. According to Petteri Taalas, the Secretary General of WMO, the private sector can contribute to the work that is done by the organisations.“I am sure that private sector is interested in seeking for both economic solutions and also environmentally friendly solutions. In the best case, one can combine those issues. We can create win-wins so we are reaching savings, safety of the transportation and finally, we can do good things for the environment" says Taalas.
