April is National Donate Life Month and two women are shining a spotlight on this critical issue. Heidi Evans, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who worked at the New York Daily News, is now executive director of LiveOnNY, a nonprofit committed to helping New York live on through organ and tissue donation. Georgette Kelly’s new play, I Carry Your Heart, about a relationship that develops between two families involved in organ donation, will have its New York premiere at 59E59 Theaters, running through April 14. Ten thousand New Yorkers need a life-saving transplant and, according to LiveOnNY, one organ donor can save up to eight lives.
