Martin has finally been adapted for television in the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.WATCH HOUSE OF THE DRAGON S01E07 HEREIn Fire & Blood, events like Aegon's first conquest and the Dance of the Dragons civil war are discussed along with the history of House Targaryen during its control over Westeros. The primary focus of House of the Dragon is The Dance and the events leading up to it, particularly the feud between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower. House of the Dragon significantly resembles the TV adaptation of Game of Thrones in how it changes the source material to adapt it for the screen. Book lovers shouldn't be afraid of change because it could be advantageous.Here are the greatest adjustments House of the Dragon episode 7 full has made thus far, ranging from structural alterations to missing characters and more.A history book versus a TV programCaraxes, dearest one.The distinct structures of each piece are where Fire & Blood and House of the Dragon initially diverge. While House of the Dragon is a drama TV series that only partially replicates the centuries-long history described in Fire & Blood, it is written as a history book by the fictional Archmaester Gyldayn.Gyldayn explains his various sources for his writing in Fire & Blood, particularly in the section on the Dance of the Dragons. In addition to contradicting tales from Maesters and Septons, these sources also contain a court jester by the name of Mushroom. In Rashomon-style important events that occur behind closed doors, each source provides us a somewhat different perspective, with Mushroom's stories typically being the most intense and lustful. Although characters like Mushroom are absent from House of the Dragon, it will be interesting to see how the story develops because House of the Dragon will have to make a decision about some of Fire & Blood's most contentious scenes.The freedom to experiment within the historical context is one of the intriguing aspects about adapting a history book, even if it is fictional. Because Fire & Blood rarely goes into scene-level detail, House of the Dragon is free to create new scenes and/or enlarge on existing ones. Therefore, even while book readers may be familiar with the overall plot of House of the Dragon, they won't be able to predict any of the finer-grained, character-focused sequences. It serves as a good technique to keep the audience guessing and to make this adaption a little surprising.The birth of King Viserys and Queen Aemma's son and the tournament held to commemorate it serve as the focal points of the first episode of House of the Dragon. Queen Aemma's hard labor is explicitly contrasted with scenes of warfare, such as the fight between Prince Daemon and Ser Criston Cole, to emphasize the point she previously made to her daughter Rhaenyra that childbirth is a woman's battleground. Even though Aemma's delivery and the tournament that introduces Criston do not occur at the same time in the novels, choosing to combine them was a wise move. Along with the previously noted thematic similarities, we also have a classic tournament in the style of Game of Thrones. The extravagant celebration also serves as a reminder of how significant a male heir is to the realm.Fire & Blood doesn't go into great depth about Aemma's passing while giving birth. However, several people in the book experience Viserys' conundrum on whether to kill Aemma in order to ensure the birth of his son. Queen Alyssa Velaryon, the mother of King Jaehaerys, endures a traumatic birth much earlier in the Targaryen dynasty. While there is still a chance they can save the child, the maester tending to her informs her husband Lord Rogar Baratheon that Alyssa is almost certain to die; Rogar decides to save the infant. It's remarkable that House of the Dragon uses incidents like this throughout Fire & Blood to enhance its plot, demonstrating the adaptability with which the program has handled the historiographical character of its source material.Friends for life... I wish.The good choice made by House of the Dragon to focus on Rhaenyra and Alicent's friendship from the outset. It makes natural that House of the Dragon begins establishing their relationship in the first episode as the divide between them is what leads to the Dance of the Dragons.Prior to Alicent's marriage to King Viserys, Rhaenyra and Alicent aren't very close in Fire & Blood, but they become fast friends in House of the Dragon. Their childhood friendship in the show promises to make their breakup even more sad, giving later episodes even more emotional weight.What follows after a song of ice?In the last seconds of the first episode, King Viserys surprises Rhaenyra with a shocking revelation. Their ancestor Aegon the Conqueror conquered Westeros because he had a dream, not just out of ambition. That dream warned that a horrible winter – White Walkers, anyone? — would bring about the demise of humanity.Fire & Blood makes no mention of Aegon having this dream, but since the novel hardly ever gets into the minds of its characters, there is also no proof that Aegon didn't. Maybe Martin had planned this all along. But I don't like this particular storytelling innovation. House of the Dragon needs as much of a fresh start as it can get after the negative fan reactions to Season 8 since the connection to Game of Thrones is simply too neat. The revelation of Aegon's dream, which he referred to as A Song of Ice and Fire, which caused me to massively roll my eyes, also diverts attention from the politics of House of the Dragons in favor of bringing to mind a Big Bad.
