Finally, we are here! The Walker Art center in Minneapolis features multidisciplinary, contemporary, and visual and performing arts exhibits. It is included in the "Big Five" museums for modern art in Minnesota. This art museum had once served as a personal art gallery of Thomas Barlow Walker, a lumberman in the 1870s. It became an official public art gallery in the 1920s. The building was originally designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes. Later on, Swiss architects created a shimmering aluminum-mesh fascia for the art museum. The Walker Art Center had its major expansion in 2005 for new gallery space, a theater, restaurant, shop and space for special events. Due to comprehensive arts experiences and programming, it has become one of the most favorite art museums. The Minnesota Arts Council was approved to control the building on Lowry Hill, together with its art collection in the 1930s. Efforts have been made to create a civic art center and Daniel Defenbacher became the first director of the Walker Art Center. The art center is supported in part by a grant given by the Minnesota State Arts Board from the general as well as arts and cultural fund of Minnesota. The continuity of this art center is attributed to the constant flow of new and progressive contemporary artwork.Thank you for your attention and have a nice day!Photo Minneapolis MAY2012 Walker Art Center ext 4 by Mark B.
