Nothing about this level of incapacitation resembles the body's natural sleep state recovery. This book is a fantastic resource for anyone who has experienced or known someone who has experienced being in a coma. The authors have done a tremendous amount of research pulling together past history, current practice, and evidential reports from experiencers to offer insight in an effort to advocate much needed change.

Coma and Near-Death Experience, The Beautiful, Disturbing, and Dangerous World of the Unconscious, By Alan Pearce and Beverley Pearce

Hearing these stories, knowing the extreme trauma experienced by some, the message is clear. We are completely in the dark about what really happens to patients who are put into a medically induced coma. Experiences include those similar to Out of Body, Near Death and Psychedelic trips.

*Bio: Alan Pearce is a journalist, broadcaster, former BBC correspondent, and author of several books. He has contributed to numerous publications, from Time Magazine to The Sunday Times of London. He lives in Nouvelle Aquitaine, France.

"Every day around the world, thousands of people are placed in medically-induced comas. For some coma survivors, the experience is an utter blank. Others lay paralyzed, aware of everything around them but unable to move, speak, or even blink. Many experience alternate lives spanning decades, lives they grieve once awakened. Some encounter ultra-vivid nightmares, while others undergo a deep, spiritual oneness with the universe or say they have glimpsed the afterlife." - Coma and Near-Death Experience, Simon and Schuster

“A must-read for anyone who is touched by critical illness, whether they are a patient, family member, or a clinician.” - E. Wesley Ely, M.D., professor of medicine, Vanderbilt University Medical Center
