Recorded before Lockdown at the end of 2019, Ben spoke to Sam Peck about his journey to his current career.

Ben mentions "the first episode" of the podcast where Dean asked Ben what he wanted to be. This episode was not published as it did not fit with the theme and the introduction episode replaced it. Maybe we will release it one day.

We discussed Sam's schooling across the globe as the son of a diplomat and through to returning to Australia for college and beginning his working life in consumer experiences, then "blagging" his way to his dream job at a surfing magazine.

We discuss male and female differences in rating their own ability and reference the book Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez, a great read and a must for men, for female listeners it will reaffirm everything you already experience and explain why that is.

Check out Nathan Barley episode one that Ben mentioned in relation to Sam's work in magazines. It is a comedy about the beginning of the dot com bubble.

Sam and a team of developers created Ally, amongst other products, which was subsequently acquired by Blackboard. It provides guidance to instructors on the accessibility of assignments they submit to the learning management system. Learners can also choose how to extract the assignment as audio, braille and other formats.

For a wider discussion of accessibility in the gaming industry check out this article from 2019.

Ben mentioned one of his favourite design stories, the OXO peeler. Here is an article about the design of this very successful peeler.

Here is the valedictorian speech Ben mentions.
