What Happened To Baby Doe?This is a crazy hard podcast to listen to. In November of 1999, a baby is found under a stairwell in North Carolina. The investigation of how she got there would last 20 years and lead detectives to other unspeakable crimes. Those who aren’t into listening to true crime podcasts like this one or others might ask why it was made or why people would listen to it. Everyone has their own reasons for listening and making them and those are vast but one that doesn’t occur necessarily for me but I often think about is how many people besides those in the podcast have experienced this and felt alone in it. Many people are victims of truly horrific acts with no one to turn to or talk to and feel like an outcast because of it. You really don’t even know who is listening and will think “Oh that’s my story..maybe I’m not alone in this after all.” Often it is hard to tell how a story can help another person desperate to know they aren’t the summary of their experiences. Host and reporter Natalie Wilson pulls together pieces from the news’ rooms archives to tell this 5 part series. Itunes has an average of 4.5 stars and 157 written reviews. Each episode is only about 15 minutes long but there aren’t any commercials. The host’s voice and script are very much like a newscaster and reminds me a bit of Dateline’s hosts. Music is very sad when present but isn’t used heavily in this pod. Extreme trigger warnings for domestic abuse, assault, and incest.
