All right, Rips, did you drive with Dwight and Chad? We're here troubles immediate day and joining us now is a blazer for Jeremy Grant. Jeremy,

0:05

I welcome to the show, and congrats on the new deal man.

0:07

That's awesome. Thank you, thank you, thank you, honor and bless

0:11

what's it like to get that kind of security? I mean, this is

0:14

a job obviously, people know from the outside there's not a lot of security

0:19

unless you get a deal like you got. Uh. Definitely again, Uh,

0:24

just blessed to you know, be able to have the opportunity to to

0:29

to get the security, like you said. Uh. Thankful for you know,

0:33

Joe and Jody and and the organization for trusting in me. I'm curious

0:38

when you signed that, did you go out and buy something? Uh?

0:41

When I signed that, did I go out and buy something something cool?

0:45

You know? I got, I got, I got my family a lot

0:47

of a lot of things. You know. I got a few cars,

0:51

uh for myself and cars for my family. So what's the favorite rig that

0:56

you have, the car that you're most proud of. I gotta I gotta

1:00

Bentley. It's uh, it's it's beautiful. It's it's yeah, are you

1:04

scared to driving? No, No, not at all, not at all.

1:07

Uh driving pretty fast sometimes. What kind of car did the family yet

1:18

I got? Uh? I got, I got my partner Porsche. Uh,

1:23

I got I got Actually I got my brother better card than I got

1:27

uh mayback truck and I got my other brother Range. Yeah, so you

1:36

took good care of of course they take a good care of me. So you know, we were just talking with Matisse and he goes, Hey,

1:42

in the real world, I'm a young man, but now in basketball terms,

1:46

I'm like an old guy. And for you, now we were just

1:48

talking about this, only four guys on the roster who were here last year.

1:51

You're one of those guys included. So what's it like for you to

1:53

see all the new faces and a lot of them are young, and they're

1:56

gonna come to you for advice. They want to know your take on the

1:59

NBA life and how to make things happen. Uh. It's it's an honor

2:05

to be able to get this far in the NBA, to be honest,

2:07

going on my tenth year in the in the league, So to be able

2:12

to super long, to be able to share what I've learned, and you

2:19

know, in the last decade with the new guys, it's important always having

2:24

you know, a mentor leader, h a vet, you know, to

2:28

be able to teach you and show you the ropes, because no one really

2:31

teaches you or shows you. But to have somebody who's been through it and

2:37

teach you, it's huge. So I'm I'm taking that role very seriously.

2:40

Who did that for you? I had Elton Brand and Philly he helped me

2:46

a lot. Jason Richardson, Uh, he helped me as well. Those

2:51

were in Philly, and then uh when I got to Okay see Russ Russ

2:53

Westbrook. Uh he yeah, he took me under his wing and it helped

2:57

me a lot. So all right, so with the team that's here,

3:00

what do you think about the additions? First off, with DeAndre Ayton, you've competed against him. What do you think he's going to bring to the

3:05

club. I think he's gonna bring a lot. I think, uh, a lot of energy. Uh. He has great touch, great shoot and

3:12

touch H And I mean defensively, I mean I think he could do a

3:16

lot. I think he could do a lot. And I think it's you

3:21

know, it's been a while since I played with the you know somebody like

3:24

that. So I'm I'm extremely excited to you know, see what he brings.

3:29

I think he has he has a lot more to give to than than

3:32

he has the opportunity too in the past. So I'm I'm excited about this.

3:38

Looks like with uh scoot here, it's gonna be a little more running

3:42

in faster pace, more up tempo. Do you like that? Definitely?

3:46

I definitely like that. Uh it plays to my advantages long athletic wing.

3:51

I like, I love to run to run the court, so playing at

3:53

that tempo is uh, it makes the makes the game a lot easier.

3:58

So what if you guys talk about in terms of what it's going to take to get to that next level defensively and you're a key cogging now, so

4:03

what's it gonna take now with the guys that you have. I think we

4:06

have a defensive team. I think the trades that you know that Joe's made

4:13

has shifted us from you know, a hea heavily offensive power to a defensive

4:19

team, and I think that benefits us. You know, obviously with DeAndre

4:25

rob me matis like we have we have a lot of defenders so I look

4:31

forward to it. I look forward to us, you know, shutting teams

4:34

down and winning in that way. You know. Last summer I saw some

4:40

pictures I think on Instagram from they were you in Paris? I think is

4:45

a fashion week over there? I think? Yeah? And so I want

4:48

to talk to you about that. Guys, anybody who's seen you walk into

4:50

an arena and knows you have an interesting fashion is that gonna carry you through

4:55

your career and maybe something post career? Are you that interested in it?

5:00

Definitely? Definitely. I love fashion. I love the shop. I love

5:03

to see the artwork that these designers put out. So it's something It's something

5:11

that I'm very interested in. And uh yeah, I'll continue to, you

5:14

know, follow that direction for my career, God willing and and after as

5:18

well. So you know, I was born in Tulsa, So I grew

5:21

up a huge Sooner fan. I I love your Your father was a part

5:26

of the like one of the best Sooner teams of all time. He played

5:28

here in Portland. What what did he tell you about Portland before you came here? So I was born here, I lived here for my first two

5:35

years. I don't really remember it, but you know him and my mom

5:41

just telling me how beautiful it is nature wise. You know a lot of

5:46

people here enjoy you know, nutrition and holistic things, and uh, they

5:53

were just telling me things like that about you know, about being here.

5:57

So how key is the nutrition and learning? How guys that come to the

6:00

league. I remember Zach Collins when he first came in, He's like, I didn't know anything about nutrition. A lot of young guys are like that.

6:05

How key has that been in you as you've learned over the years how

6:08

to better take care of your body for the longevity you know, with ten

6:11

years in it's huge, it's huge. I think when you're young, you

6:14

can get away with eating eating pretty bad because your your body recovers really fast.

6:18

But once you hit a certain point and you got it, you know,

6:21

I got a decent amount of miles on your body. You gotta understand

6:26

that any small thing helps, So you gotta, you know, start eating

6:30

healthy and things like that. So, uh, the young guys, they'll

6:33

they'll catch on. But sometimes, you know, it's it's hard to tell

6:36

somebody something when uh they're young and it doesn't affect him as much. Have

6:41

you seen you've been out of the practice facility. I'm sure it's there a

6:46

young guy kind of floating under the radar that we don't really know too much

6:49

about. That's gonna surprise us. Oh, we gotta we got a lot

6:55

of good young guys. To be honest, I don't want to jinx anybody,

6:59

so I'm not gonna say nothing, but I definitely I definitely come back

7:02

uh uh and and and talk to you about it when it when it comes.

7:06

How good is scoop Man? School is really good? He's really good.

7:10

He's really talented, really athletic, and he brings a different he brings

7:19

a different what do you say, just a different gear. He brings a

7:28

different uh look to the team. His pace is is different. It's not

7:32

something that you see often. And uh, he's growing, He's growing,

7:39

He's getting better. He's gotten better since I've been here this summer, and

7:44

I'm looking forward to him continue to get better. Can he maintain that pace?

7:48

Is that sustainable to play? I mean I've seen him G League and

7:51

stuff. He plays a hundred miles an hour. Can you keep doing that?

7:56

Yeah? I think I think he definitely can. I think, uh,

8:00

you know, he'll have to condition his body to do that for eighty

8:03

two games and more hopefully. But yeah, it's it's definitely something that you

8:09

know he can he can keep up. He'll figure out, you know,

8:13

when to turn it on and you know. But but right now, yeah,

8:18

he's young, he could he can definitely do it. So and one of the guys I'm impressed by it is Chris Murray. What's your take on

8:22

what you've seen from him so far? He's good, He's good. Uh,

8:26

Talenton, young guy, you could do a little bit of everything,

8:31

very coachable, he listens and yeah, you could tell he wants it.

8:37

He works really hard, so you can tell he wants it, and he'll

8:39

be a good player for sure. What's your take on the tantem of Dame

8:43

and your honest together, that's gonna be. It's gonna be a good team.

8:48

It's gonna be a good team. Yeah. I'm excited to you know,

8:52

see him play and play against him, to be honest, but uh,

8:56

I think that's gonna be. It's gonna be a great team. You're probably used to it by now, But how hard is it to say goodbye

9:01

to teammates you're tight with. Oh, it's tough, it's tough. It's

9:03

definitely always tough, no matter how long you you're in the NBA. It's

9:09

my fifth team, So no matter how long you're in the NBA, you

9:13

know the business by now, I gotta say bye to a lot of guys.

9:16

So but it never it never gets easy. You're always gonna go through

9:20

that over and over every time. So, uh, it's it's a part

9:24

of the business. So one final question for you, Santa Barbara, you

9:28

went there last year, going back this year. How much do you enjoy

9:31

getting away for camp like that? Excited? I'm excited to get away for

9:35

camp, especially with you know, we got a bunch of new guys, so for us to you know, be able to come together and you know,

9:41

figure out each other's personalities, figure out each other, how we play

9:45

on the court together and and everything. So I'm excited for that to you

9:48

know, be isolated with the teams all right. Jeremy Grant traivel Aser Media

9:52

Day. Jeremy, good luck this year. Congrats on the new deal.

9:54

It's awesome and we look forward to seeing you play. Yes, sir,

9:58

thank you.
