1918 ... 102 years ago ... The world faced a pandemic and despite the differences between today and 1918; abundance of scientific data, various available vaccines, evolving technologies, we are facing a surreal similarity to 1918, we can’t win over the evolving viruses and despite everything we have, containment of the virus seems to be only efficient measure. Ironic, but it shows that those who are fast responders to pandemics/emergencies have been more victorious than slow respondents. The Cohort study mentioned ( Philadelphia vs New Orleans vs others ) is a great reminder! Excellent medical facilities don’t translate to less fatalities, but enforcements of social distances measures, lockdowns and closures of places that prompt social gathering are!
A really good explanation of viruses and very interesting to note that 100 years later the containment measures are the same.
