2:32

The link is on my author website.

2:35

jw, what's the matter with me.org.

2:41

So that's it. I'm a published writer, I'm published.

2:47

Check it out gw, what's the matter

2:51

with me.org? And now that I've experienced

2:58

somebody published something, I wrote even

3:03

as small as a 50 word story,

3:07

the feeling you have after publication is the same one you have

3:13

after you have an art opening.

3:15

You're like, my life is the same after you.

3:20

Like you don't turn into a frog

3:22

or any, it's like somehow you expect something to happen.

3:28

But, but in fact, I did accomplish something.

3:32

I was published, it happened.

3:35

And then also this coming week,

3:39

another 50 word story will be published in a

3:44

different online journal

3:47

and I've recorded a video of myself reading it.

3:51

So I'll put all links to this stuff.

3:55

Check out the author page.

3:58

jw do what's the matter with me.org.

4:03

But in fact I accomplished something,

4:06

another story published this week

4:10

and I got a video of myself

4:12

and they're going to send it to their mailing list.

4:18

So I'm like, okay, I'm all ready. I'll send you a link.

4:21

Come on. So what's up with surgery?

4:26

Last week was like surgery, publication, vacation

4:30

this week, no more vacation, no more surgery.

4:36

And I'm coming off of medication.

4:39

So let me give you an update on how it's going.

4:43

So I had surgery on the 28th of March.

4:47

That was a Thursday. So it was like going on a month,

4:53

going on four weeks ago,

4:56

going on four weeks ago I had surgery

5:00

and I haven't had pain since then.

5:04

I've had sens sensations like I wouldn't

5:09

compared to what I've experienced before.

5:12

It's more like, it feels like a cat's tail

5:17

brushing up against my cheek. So it's not like hurting me.

5:23

But I know enough having had five surgery

5:27

that any sensation can turn into a bad sensation

5:33

if things change. But I'm having very limited sensation

5:40

and really ex extremely low.

5:45

And in my teeth, my teeth, it's kind of awe names.

5:51

It can kind ache sometime, but very briefly

5:56

and not so far, not in a way

6:00

that really hurts me. So almost four weeks ago I was on

6:07

10 times as much pain medication.

6:11

That's the other part about having some sensation.

6:15

It might be related to cutting out so far,

6:20

90% of the medication

6:24

and that of one medication, 90%

6:27

and the other medication having cut it out completely.

6:35

So I am really low. I kind of sweat in the morning.

6:40

I get a little bit, um, you know,

6:42

because it's habit forming so it takes some time

6:46

to come off of this. I, in uh, three days

6:50

or so, I'll cut out the medication entirely

6:55

and then I'll be off both pain medications.

6:58

It's really helping me, uh, get through my life.

7:04

So let's see, more updates.

7:06

So it's been four weeks almost.

7:09

It's been four weeks going on four weeks

7:12

since I had surgery. I'm almost totally off medication completely

7:19

and any feeling I'm having is not painful.

7:25

So things are in the right direction.

7:28

We have a new cat. So we got a new cat a few months back

7:34

and it was unfortunately, unfortunately

7:39

struck by a car and passed away.

7:43

We have a new cat. Um, she's like couple months old.

7:49

We think it's a she we're not really sure.

7:53

Uh, part links. It has this kind of like lion like rah

8:00

instead of a nice meow, there's a meowing, there's like rah,

8:07

it's a cute cat like sitting on my lap.

8:11

And that's the, that's what you want out of a cat.

8:16

So far it's been sequestered in the

8:20

laundry room because it can't mix with our other cat

8:26

'cause we don't wanna get our other cat sick

8:29

because the new cat was basically a feral cat

8:34

living outside in a box with ear mites

8:39

and fleas and all the rest.

8:43

Pretty dirty cat.

8:45

So we gave it all the pills and shots, uh, a couple weeks ago

8:51

and it has to remain sequestered

8:55

for like 10 more days. So I try and put the um, old cat outside

9:02

and then have the new cat run around the house.

9:07

'cause the, I feel bad having the cat live in

9:12

the laundry room. The new cat is cool. So things are getting better.

9:20

I'm getting off medication and I barbecued

9:25

for the first time this year and it's already April

9:31

and I live in California. It's not 'cause it's too cold, it's that

9:37

lighting the barbecue. My barbecue is hot.

9:41

It's a powerful barbecue and I could barely stand up.

9:46

I had no balance. And so I felt really unsafe barbecuing,

9:52

like if it's gonna trip and fall face down on the barbecue, uh, you know,

9:58

like I just did not feel safe.

10:01

So, but now I'm off. I was on two medication, thousands of milligrams

10:07

of these medication and now I'm off one entirely

10:15

and the other one I'm 90% down on.

10:19

So I'm, I'm standing and moving better than a half in months.

10:26

So I lit the barbecue for the first time this year

10:31

and I made skirt, steak and eggplant.

10:35

The way I do eggplant is I just kind of,

10:39

I preheat the barbecue with the eggplant on it

10:42

with the heat at, you know, all the way hot

10:47

and it kind of turned the eggplant when I, when I

10:51

opened the barbecue. I'll open it one time to turn it

10:55

and then open it to clean the grate.

10:59

So kind of move the eggplant up onto the rack

11:03

above the grate, clean the grate,

11:06

put the eggplant back on the grate.

11:09

Sh shut the barbecue. This is all preheating

11:14

and so you're kind of like charring the eggplant

11:19

incinerating it. It'll have like a great crack

11:22

and it'll begin kind of steaming out of the crack.

11:28

And then uh, you put it in a bowl

11:32

and it'll kind of leach this black, uh,

11:36

coffee looking liquid.

11:40

And that is like burnt eggplant char taste.

11:45

So you can kind of scoop out the cooked eggplant

11:48

with a spoon, use a sieve

11:52

and strain the burnt eggplant liquid

11:57

and then combine that with what you spooned out man

12:02

a clove garlic or grate it on the micro planter

12:07

and add like a lot of olive oil

12:10

and add salt to taste

12:14

and then you can serve that. So we serve that alongside the skirt steak

12:20

and the skirt steak had a compound butter, a blue cheese

12:26

and butter and my son hated that,

12:30

which was too bad. It was really good.

12:35

So la that was a few nights ago last week

12:38

with the skirt steak Last night I grilled a pork tender

12:43

loin, a pork tender loin with

12:47

whole grain mustard, brown sugar and shing wine.

12:53

And then we ate that cut into medallions

12:58

with carrots and potatoes and salad.

13:02

So cooking is going well. I don't feel like I'm gonna die.

13:08

Something that did die is our juniper tree.

13:13

We had a jour juniper tree in front of the house that died

13:19

and it was probably 70 years old

13:23

or some, not a super huge one.

13:28

Not much taller than the house.

13:30

Maybe as tall as our single story home.

13:36

Anyhow, I'm gonna replace it. We will replace it with a Hollywood

13:41

juniper Junis.

13:44

Chines is variant zuka.

13:49

It kind of has sweeping arms.

13:53

So we'll see how that comes in.

13:56

I'm also looking to get some hummingbird sage.

14:00

My birthday is on Friday. A lot of things going on here.

14:06

I'm remaking the, what's the matter

14:08

with me.org website.

14:12

It's, uh, that'll launch pretty soon.

14:15

Gary Canone, the artist, Gary Canone, uh,

14:19

that I interviewed on this very podcast

14:24

a a year ago about, um, just had a great writeup

14:29

in a hyper allergic Laurie Waxman wrote

14:35

a survey of some Chicago shows

14:39

and one of them was Gary's

14:41

and Gary is an artist with ms, so I'm always interested

14:47

in those people. So it's cool. He got a cool writeup.

14:51

I'll, I'll put a link to it in the description.

14:55

I can get up from the couch by myself.

14:59

Uh, I did it twice yesterday

15:02

and that's been a big change. I, I used to have to have my wife help me get in a chair

15:10

and sometimes I still do like, kind

15:13

of help get up into a chair and then I can stand up from the chair.

15:18

But yesterday and it's, I'm still getting, I'm like regaining an ability

15:25

that I lost because I had no balance in my right leg.

15:30

So it became really hard to get up from the couch

15:35

with one leg. I basically had to like lift my entire body on one leg

15:43

and balance like that. It just didn't work.

15:47

So yesterday afternoon at a part

15:51

of the day when I'm usually don't have a lot of energy

15:55

and power, the afternoon I got up from the couch

16:00

by myself with no one around twice.

16:04

And in a kinda short, not, not like a set,

16:09

but you know, I got up and I went to the bathroom.

16:14

This is like, you wanna be able to do this when you sit on the couch.

16:18

I've been avoiding the couch, but I can, I'm starting to be able

16:24

to get up from it by myself.

16:27

So things are like on the good side.

16:31
