This is my poem 'For you' from my first book 'Winsome whispers of a lissome soul'.

'Aashiqui 2' kind of gave me the surge of feelings to write this piece.

*For you*

The poem sees everything through the eyes of Rahul. He sees Arohi as the night that stays, and himself as a star that burns out adorning the night sky. He sees her as eternal beauty, and himself as the short-lived spark that fades igniting and colouring her up.

He decides to end his life before he lets his demons take down what he loves most along with him. Because he believes that Arohi is his legacy; all that is good about him will continue to live on through her. This is what he expresses in the second stanza.

The third stanza shows him finally humanly grieving during the last moments of his life for not being able to live with her. He regrets the course of his afterlife where he would end up somewhere where he would have no more beautiful nights like Arohi to smile at. As he inches closer to death and strays farther away from her, his thoughts take him back, closer to when he first kisses her. He feels that he owes her for that memory, because it makes death feel soft on him.

I look at the propensity to sacrifice to be the most special trait of love. We live our whole lives loving our own bodies, our own faces, and something changes us so much that we break out of our selfish, egoistic minds to finally bring ourselves to a point to burn ourselves down for someone we love. I think when you are ready to do that for someone, that is when you have reached the threshold of true love. The kind of love that is sacred.
