Did you know that there are only about 150 Board roles to apply for in Australia at ASX level every year? There’s no hiding that getting onto an ASX listed Board is more challenging than ever. So in this episode of Women On The Move, Dr Vanessa Guthrie speaks with behind closed doors’ Founder and Managing Director Donny Walford about her successful Board career, and shares her tips on how you can increase your chances of successfully winning a Board role too.

Vanessa also uncovers her career journey and how her university studies in Geology led to her successful career in the resources sector, in a variety of diverse minerals and energy resources. Vanessa sheds light on how to leverage networking to help you gain exposure to Boards and Board members you are interested in, and how to best position yourself and sell your skills in a very competitive Board market. Vanessa also shares her learnings by speaking about the key challenges she has faced both in her career, and as a Board Director, and will leave you feeling inspired, motivated, and ready to tackle your next challenge.

Vanessa is an experienced Executive and Director. She has built a ground-breaking career serving on a variety of Boards including the Minerals Council of Australia, Cricket Australia, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), AdBri Ltd and Santos Ltd, among others. Vanessa is an inspiring female leader, having been recognised as one of the world’s Top 100 inspirational women in mining. Vanessa was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science from Curtin University in 2017 for her significant contributions to sustainability, innovation, and policy leadership in the resources industry. She was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2021 (AO) for her contribution to the minerals and resources sector.
