But in keeping with His promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him. 2 Peter 3:13-14 (NIV)

Peter keeps bringing our attention back to the big picture; this earth is not our final destination. The previous verses talk about the earth being destroyed by fire on the day of the Lord. It sounds like something out of one of those movies where planet earth is being threatened by some catastrophe. It’s like reading the last chapter of a story and knowing how the story ends but how we arrive at that end point and in what condition is the key thing. Will we arrive ‘spotless’ and at peace with God or will we arrive with shame and deep regrets? We have a wonderful hope and future ahead of us so lets live for God.
