image[1:1] Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,

To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:

[2] Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Saturday is response day.

There are two ways that I want you to think about response to the word of God. One is in terms of your voice, and the other is in terms of your feet.  Your voice, symbolically, is a aspect of your response that makes a difference to someone else who gets the opportunity to hear what you heard that brought you life.  Your feet represent the overall aspect of your response that makes a difference to someone else who gets to experience what you experienced in light of the truth of God’s word being spoken.

The significance of your voice being heard in response to the gospel is highlighted by Paul in Romans 10.

Romans 10[14] How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? [15] And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

The important impact of your feet moving (hands helping, legs lifting, and elbows greasing) in response to the good news is exemplified in the response of the listeners to Peter’s first great vocal response recorded in Acts 2.

Acts 2[36] Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

[37] Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” [38] And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

You and I have the opportunity and responsibility to say something different, and to do something different with our lives, for others, as a result of Christ has already said and done for us. So say it, bro! Do it, sister! Get it done.

In order to wholeheartedly respond, here’s a few great questions to help you:

  • Voice:  Say it in faith!
    • What will you say about this text?
    • Who are you saying it to?
    • How will they best hear it?
  • Feet:  Do it in obedience!
    • What are you doing about this text?
    • Who are you doing it with/for/to?
    • When are you doing it?

See you tomorrow for my first podcast response to Philippians 1:1-2!  Thanks for experiencing the Word of God along with me this week.
