Welcome to WORDTheatre Weekly where each Saturday we share stories from our archive of live performances of the world's best short stories, recorded in LA, New York, and London, brought to life by great actors! I’m your host, Cedering Fox, WORDTheatre's Founder & Artistic Director. Please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings so no portion of anything you hear may be reproduced without permission. This week we had the special treat of having Steve Almond, the author of today's offering The Pass, join us via Zoom to share some thoughts about his story. I’m going to go ahead and let Steve take it away… STEVE ALMOND INTRODUCTION Thank you, Steve. And now, here is Steve Almond's The Pass, performed by Robert David Hall. The Pass plays…WE DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO PRINT THE WORDS OF THIS STORY. DOING SO WOULD VIOLATE COPYRIGHT LAWS. We love The Pass by Steve Almond, another great Pushcart Prize winning story, and hope you did too.. Steve Almond is the author of twelve books of fiction and non-fiction including the New York Times bestsellers Candyfreak and Against Football. His first novel, Which Brings Me to You (co-written with Julianna Baggott) is a major motion picture starring Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff. His last novel, All the Secrets of the World, is in development for television by 20th Century Fox. In addition to being published in The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Press, Steve's work has appeared in the Best American Short Stories, Best American Mysteries, and the NYT Magazine among many other publications. His most recent book, Truth Is the Arrow, Mercy Is the Bow, is about craft, inspiration, and how to keep going at the keyboard!. If you are a fan of books that walk on the wild side check out Steve’s DIY book Writs of Passion, we won’t tell anyone. Thank you, Steve! And a big thank you to Robert David Hall for his tantalizing performance of The Pass. Robert has been gracing our screens with his powerful presence since 1983. He won over audiences with his portrayal of Dr. Al Robbins in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which garnered him 4 SAG nominations. Thank you Robert! If you are enjoying WORDTheatre® Weekly, you’ll find books by the authors we feature on Bookshop.org/shop/wordtheatre! Or simply search W-O-R-D-T-H-E-A-TR-E . We hope you will tell your friends about us! If you are listening today, Saturday, March 9th, and happen to live anywhere near Los Angeles, please join us at The Fernando Pullum Community Center for a remarkable production of Black Folk Could Fly, an adaptation of Randall Kenan's essays from his book of the same name. We've got fabulous musicians, and four extraordinary actors: Tracie Thoms, Dohn Norwood, Eugene Byrd and CG,.. All the information is on our website. And then, WordTheatre is coming to New York on March 19th. We've got four fabulous authors – Jacqueline Woodson, David Means, Sidik Fofana and Dashiel Carrera whose stories will be performed by Marinda Anderson, Tim Blake Nelson, Michael Boatman and Lou Diamond Phillips, respectively. It's time to wrap it up with some thank you’s!
