Mike Clinton is a Professor in Work Psychology at King's Business School. Mike first joined King’s College London over 20 years. He has taken many roles during his tenure, and recently was Programme Director for the Business Management BSc programme. Since January 2022, Mike has been Head of the Human Resource Management & Employment Relations Research Group.

Mike’s research focuses on worker wellbeing and effectiveness. He is particularly interested in how worker wellbeing and effectiveness can be sustained together over long periods of time and how they can come into conflict with each other and potentially breakdown. He is interested in the role of worker behaviour, worker attitudes and worker’s orientation to work in shaping how worker wellbeing and effectiveness unfolds. His recent research projects have involved studies of vocational callings as double-edge swords and how a demanding day at work can turn workers into risky drivers on the way home afterwards. Mike’s work draws on psychological theories about self-determined motivation, self-control, and recovery from work.

Mike has conducted studies in a number of UK organisations including the Armed Services, the NHS, retail banks, Higher Education institutions, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and, most recently, the Church of England. He has published in many of the top international journals in his field, including the Journal of Management Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Occupational & Organizational Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and Human Resource Management Journal.
