It is your mom actually on the phone right now on

0:02

the speaker of phones. I don't know if you can see.

0:04

Hey, what's up?

0:10

What'd you What did you think of the touchdown today? She

0:12

said? They said, what did you think of it? Touchdown to night?

0:15

Oh my gosh, I'm just so worn

0:17

out. It was night

0:19

and i couldn't even believe it. I was in shock.

0:23

Hey, phone

0:25

up in that phone on it and he

0:28

got it trucking. That

0:34

was carl Young, the mother of Washington football team's

0:37

defensive star, Chief's Young comedy on their

0:39

son's incredible funnel recovery for forty

0:41

seven yard touchdowns during the forty nine Ers game,

0:43

one of many incredible moments of his rookie

0:46

debet, and really where we got to see how close

0:48

the two of them are. I'm made Kenny, and joining

0:50

me is Stephanie Jokien and Janine Samuels.

0:52

And this is a special while brought to you by

0:54

Fresh Fine Wine. You're absolutely

0:57

right, this is special. It's not our

0:59

normal wow, because it's

1:01

all about Mama Young. We

1:04

are taking full advantage of having Carlo

1:06

Young join us here just so that we can learn

1:08

more about Chase Young, what her thoughts

1:10

were on the season and just to get

1:13

to know her as a mother and as a

1:15

powerful, powerful woman.

1:18

So Carlo, first of all, welcome to the Wow.

1:20

We're so exciting to have you. Thank

1:22

you, thanks for having me. Yes,

1:25

of course, now I have to make sure that we

1:27

kind of kick things off because as

1:29

we're recording this, we literally like

1:32

we all just pulled ourselves away from

1:34

the TV watching an inauguration.

1:37

We witness the youngest National

1:39

Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman.

1:42

We heard amazing performances

1:44

of just so much diversity, Lady

1:46

God God, Jennifer Lopez, Garth Brooks.

1:49

Obviously, oath of office for Joe

1:51

Biden, but it's all about

1:53

the wow. We witnessed oath of office

1:55

for the first female vice president

1:57

in the United States. Apps

2:00

resolutely unprecedented what we just saw,

2:02

And so Carlin, I just had to kick things off

2:04

and just get your thoughts on what it

2:06

is that you know, how you feel about what our

2:08

country is experiencing right now with a

2:10

lot of first happening. I'm

2:12

just very excited. It's

2:15

amazing just

2:17

to be part of history right now.

2:20

I just really look forward to what it's

2:22

going to happen in the future because I know

2:25

there's going to be some wonderful things to come.

2:27

I mean, it just gives me chills today,

2:29

you know, as I was watching everything,

2:32

it's just almost unbelievable.

2:35

Absolutely, yeah, So I'm just

2:37

looking forward to the future. Yeah.

2:40

I was saying to you guys earlier that I got

2:42

my two sons, Max and Camage is nine, intend

2:44

to sit down and watch the whole thing, and they were so

2:47

intrigued and inspired, And

2:49

at one point I said to the younger one, I said, Okay,

2:51

so you need to hurry up and get to be president

2:53

so I can witness this, right, Mom,

2:56

Do you think that presidents can play video games

2:59

too? Though? Yes, that

3:03

it can do whatever they want to do. I

3:07

agree with you. It's just one of those experiences

3:10

where, you know, for younger people, when we

3:12

see it and we can see that it is possible

3:14

and that it can happen, I think it's

3:16

just going to stir up a lot of new dreams

3:19

and new goals for our young,

3:21

very diverse nation. And so it was just

3:23

so exciting. We actually got very

3:25

emotional through some of it as well, So

3:28

just wanted to acknowledge what we as

3:30

four women here witnessed with the rest of this

3:32

country as something that has never happened

3:34

before. Yes, and

3:37

it's important to know it might have been the first time we

3:39

saw it, but it won't be the last. And that's

3:41

just something really special that we can exactly

3:44

anything as possible. As Budden said, yeah,

3:48

well, Mama Young, we're gonna kick this off.

3:50

Obviously, we know people

3:52

know who you are as as the mother of Chase Young,

3:54

Mama Young, as we were talking about, but we

3:57

want to know who are you. Can you give us a little

3:59

bit of intro and Carlos, Well,

4:02

I'm definitely a people

4:04

person, you know that. I'm

4:07

just so proud to see Chase out there

4:09

yelling and encouraging his team

4:11

because that's me forever,

4:14

you know, I just love That's

4:17

why this whole COVID pandemic

4:19

has been challenging for me. Just

4:22

working from home every day. I do miss

4:24

going in, you know, just

4:27

being more social. I'd

4:29

say when I was younger, I just

4:32

wanted to get married, have kids, put

4:34

them in activities, cook dinner every day.

4:36

That's what I wanted to do because I

4:38

just love family. So

4:42

I just feel blessed that that's what you

4:44

know, the opportunity I had and what

4:46

I did I

4:48

have been. Um. I just love

4:50

being involved with different activities.

4:53

I love helping out, volunteering

4:57

for different you know, not

5:00

profits, and just any

5:02

opportunity I had to just help

5:04

others. Those are a few

5:06

things I like. Basically, I love

5:08

supporting my kids and my

5:11

daughter with My daughter graduated last

5:14

May and she played basketball in college.

5:16

So right after football, you know season

5:19

in college for Chase that you know, we

5:21

were going to North Carolina or somewhere

5:23

in that area. You're watching her games like twice

5:26

a week every basketball

5:28

season. So I

5:31

just love. That's what I've done for the last

5:33

twenty five years. Because my daughter always

5:35

jokes it's like me and Chase have been her world.

5:38

That's all she does. So now

5:40

you know, say it's being popular and good.

5:42

It's like now he's giving you a platform and

5:45

giving you something for you and

5:47

you know it's just a joke, and it's

5:49

like okay, because it's so different

5:52

not going to practice, going to

5:54

a scrammedge this in that planning for the

5:56

next weekend. So it's

5:59

it's been odd and a little strange

6:02

because last this summer would have been

6:04

my first summer you know,

6:06

just planning on doing different things,

6:09

but because of COVID, I weren't

6:12

you know, we weren't able to do those. So

6:14

this is just a new This is

6:16

just new for me right now. But

6:19

I'm telling you, all the way up until Chase

6:21

last time, this yet last year, this time,

6:25

that's all I focused on supporting

6:27

them and doing whatever needed and that's

6:29

what I loved doing. So I mean, I have

6:31

to say, you know, being a

6:34

mom, being a committed full time mom,

6:36

that in and of itself is a full time job. So

6:38

I think if that's all that you feel like you've done

6:40

for twenty five years, that is completely

6:43

enough. And what you've done obviously works, right

6:46

because you now have a son that is

6:48

playing professional football. And so

6:50

we actually caught and saw a picture

6:53

on social media on his UM I believe it

6:55

was this ig account of when he was younger,

6:57

probably elementary school or middle school, and underneath

6:59

it said professional NFL

7:01

football player. So when was

7:04

it that he knew that was what he wanted

7:06

to be when he grew up? That

7:08

was like maybe third grade or

7:10

something that was that young. But

7:12

when he was six years old that

7:15

was the first time he mentioned that

7:18

he was like you all won't have to pay for college

7:20

because I'm getting a scholarship. At six,

7:23

he was a quarterback to a nine

7:25

ten year old football team,

7:29

which is a big deal. You know, I'm

7:31

learning back then because I don't have any brothers,

7:33

so a lot of these things, you know, with having a

7:35

son taught me a lot.

7:39

So from then on, you know, he just

7:42

had a passion for it. You know, he played

7:44

various sports, but

7:47

football is what he had a passion for

7:50

and that's what he always said. And I have

7:53

to share that when I went to University of Maryland

7:55

for a visit, that was like my

7:57

first our first visit where

7:59

we sat, you know, just with the coaches

8:02

and we were just watching a video that they

8:04

shared and it just bottiars to my eyes

8:06

and the coaches was like, what's wrong with you?

8:09

And it's like I shared the story about

8:12

him at six saying you

8:14

all won't have to pay for college, and

8:16

at that moment, we already

8:19

knew, you know, based on his offers. It's

8:21

like, I mean, what he said came to pass

8:24

and I just felt blessed and

8:26

just excited. So

8:29

as a mom, like that's why I just admire

8:32

moms out there because you put that

8:34

in him, you put that desire, that

8:37

goal, that dream in him, and then you

8:39

helped and able make that possible. And so

8:41

that's what's so powerful about

8:43

being a parent, is that you really

8:45

can shape their mind and what's possible

8:48

for them. Yeah,

8:50

so no, I guess at

8:52

that time because my husband, you know, he would

8:55

be so hard on him, and he would coach him

8:57

at these ages and you know, still as

8:59

a month and I am hard on Chase, but

9:02

even back then, you know, it's like he would

9:04

jump offsides and my husband would be like,

9:06

what are you doing? Definitely,

9:09

and I'm like, who are you yelling that? That would

9:11

be on the shot, Like

9:14

you didn't yell at John over there,

9:16

you did yell at So it was just like on

9:18

the way to the games every week he

9:21

would tell Chase what not to

9:23

do when you get in there. Don't do this, don't do that,

9:26

and I'm telling you, soon as he got in there,

9:28

he would do what his

9:30

dad said not to do. Then on the way

9:32

home we would talk about I and this's

9:35

just like it's not working. So whatever

9:37

you're telling him on the way, it's not working.

9:39

So so

9:41

it would just be crazy funny,

9:45

but it's just like, oh my gosh, So

9:47

we had fun all of

9:49

those gears that happened forever. That's

9:53

awesome. So was you

9:55

know, football is obviously a contact sport. Were

9:58

you okay with him playing it a early

10:00

age? I know it's a fear a lot

10:02

of his mom's hib when it comes to their children and what

10:04

sports they choose. What are your thoughts on that.

10:07

I didn't have any fear when

10:10

they were When he was two, I

10:12

was calling every community

10:15

center, every everything to see

10:17

when he could play, because you know, it's

10:19

like how old, I mean, when's the youngest you can

10:21

be? And I found one place for basketball.

10:24

I wanted him to get in any sport, you

10:26

know, as early as possible, just you

10:28

know. So it

10:31

was a basketball team and they it

10:33

was just for two and three year olds, and it's

10:35

just for them to get acclimated to being

10:38

on the team and then where they can run

10:40

off to their parents and give them a hug, you

10:42

know, during the time they're on the court, just

10:44

so they can get comfortable. So

10:47

that was the beginning. So from

10:49

then, I mean on, he

10:52

was participating in everything

10:55

basketball, football, track, soccer.

10:59

He did. He wanted to play hockey,

11:01

That's one thing I didn't let him play

11:03

because I just felt like, you

11:07

know, the way hockey can get out there fighting

11:09

and falling on my height. So that was

11:11

one spot hours against. But I

11:14

never had a problem with any other sport.

11:18

Oh God, you just you just saw the passion

11:21

and the fighter and Chase. Yeah.

11:25

Was there ever a moment with Chase that he wanted

11:27

to stop playing or how a difficult time

11:29

I wanted to give up? Never?

11:33

That's the only thing he felt

11:36

like that about was an instrument, because

11:38

I made him play the piano, the

11:40

violin, the saxophone

11:43

and what else was it? Yeah? He was

11:45

playing an instrument all the way up through

11:47

eighth grade and then in

11:50

high school. I

11:52

encouraged him. I'd say, to be in

11:54

the choir, and he did. And

11:56

then he had a few football players follow

11:59

him. And like I always say, don't be here,

12:02

get with nitwit, be

12:04

a trendsetter. I

12:09

seal it.

12:15

Yeah,

12:18

let's let's switch gears and talk about

12:20

this season. Right, And so you

12:23

were able to answer that last question, you know,

12:25

was there ever a point when your son wanted

12:27

to give up? And you quickly said never?

12:30

And that's why he is where he is.

12:32

Right now today, because he never

12:34

had that mentality of giving up.

12:37

So let's take it back to draft night.

12:39

You know, we've all seen the video of Chase outside of your

12:41

house celebrating that he was selected

12:44

by the Washington team.

12:46

Walk us through the emotions that

12:49

night. I

12:52

just think I was just nervous,

12:55

just really nervous. I don't know. All

12:57

day we were preparing, you know, just

12:59

for the day since you know, COVID

13:02

and we couldn't have many people in, so

13:05

all day we were just preparing,

13:07

and you know, me just

13:09

being nervous and excited because I'm

13:12

a nervous type of person anyway, just

13:14

hyper type of

13:16

personality. M So that

13:18

night, right before it happened, I

13:21

didn't even realize it was happening when it

13:23

happened, because you know, they called. I

13:25

don't know if you really pay attention to when

13:28

they announced it on TV. It's

13:32

just the timing wasn't wasn't right.

13:34

It's like I didn't know that was just it, you

13:36

know, just understanding how they were doing the

13:38

call and the timing of when they said

13:41

it and when because Coach Rivera called

13:44

before, and it's like it's that it

13:46

I mean, just that mean you know they

13:48

called before they announced it. Yeah,

13:51

and then I was putting on my

13:54

daughter and it's like Mom calmed down

13:57

and she was like, you're about to pull that

13:59

had that had out and it's not even time.

14:01

So I was just nervous. I

14:04

was all over the place. But that was just so excited

14:06

because it's like this time has

14:09

finally come. I

14:11

mean just a dream. That is a

14:13

dream, Chase's dream.

14:17

Now he's you know, been named

14:19

captain in his rookie season, voted to

14:21

the Pro Bowl. We always said

14:23

if we could start our morning cof with Shape

14:25

hyping us up, we would, right.

14:29

So did you instill that in him

14:31

at an early age or just has he always

14:33

been like that? Well?

14:36

Of course, you know, you're

14:38

a product of your environment. So just even

14:41

being around because I am the

14:43

hype person just period, you know

14:45

what I mean, yelling just for

14:47

years when they were younger, you know, and

14:49

it's like Carla, you just so loud

14:52

this and that. But I've always I would

14:55

get a jersey to match every

14:57

jersey on every team he's ever been

14:59

on, so we can match at the games,

15:02

and just yelling, not caring

15:04

who I would be the only parent out the rain

15:06

sleet of snow on the rails, standing up

15:08

the whole game, and just I would

15:10

always encourage him to, you

15:13

know, just encourage and not worry

15:15

about what people say in that aspect,

15:17

you know, unless it's your parents

15:20

or someone close to you. You know what I'm

15:22

saying when I say, don't worry about what people

15:24

say, just

15:26

you know, just be free to And

15:29

that's what I did. And you

15:31

know, I think early in high school

15:34

I could just see the chance, the transition

15:37

in him and just coming out of his shells

15:39

some because I feel as though,

15:41

because he's most you know, always been

15:44

a great athlete, people

15:46

would gravitate his peers towards

15:48

him anyway, although he

15:50

may not be out there pushing them the same,

15:53

they would just gravitate just because you

15:55

know, his athletic ability.

15:59

But I think in like

16:01

ninth and tenth grade, he just ended

16:04

up just coming out of his shell the

16:06

most. So when

16:10

you know, I saw him, you know, the beginning

16:12

of the season just encouraging. I

16:15

was so excited, you know, because

16:18

he was just be like, let's go. That's

16:20

what I say. On the sidelines at

16:22

Ohio State, I called coach Maya.

16:24

Like almost every football game, you

16:27

know game this year and like coach

16:29

Maya's that's fine and he'll

16:31

be like crazy girl, you know, because

16:33

that's my buddy. So

16:37

because he knows for my children, that's

16:39

what I do. I don't care how crazy

16:42

I get. It's like I'll get crazy for

16:44

them. And again, you see,

16:46

like I say, the finished product of him.

16:49

So I see he's doing the

16:51

same thing basically, and he wants the

16:53

best for his team, for anybody. He really

16:55

has a kind heart and just really

16:58

cares about people. Um,

17:01

because if you meet him in person, I don't

17:03

know if you from Madam have you we

17:05

have not. He's

17:08

like very reserved though, and

17:11

you know, people are like, is that the same

17:13

guy out there on the field

17:16

because he's very

17:18

he's just very laid back. Yeah,

17:21

and that's totally fine because he shines when

17:24

he's out there and he doesn't supposed

17:26

to deal when he's supposed to, right. And

17:29

and my dad, I don't know my dad.

17:31

Um, he passed like nine years

17:33

ago and he has a portrait

17:36

of my dad on his arm in a tattoo.

17:39

My dad never hate, like I say, any

17:42

sons. So he would

17:44

go to chase his games and Yale and he

17:46

didn't care either. Who's nothing

17:48

fifty seven playing with your mouthpiece? Now

17:50

these are six and seven yearrows. You need to get

17:52

off, get out the game if you want to play with a

17:54

mouthpiece. And we would say, Daddy,

17:57

that's somebody's child. You can't talk

17:59

about them. I don't care.

18:01

So you know, he would get on Chase and be

18:03

so hard on him. Um,

18:06

and he Chase just loved that, you know

18:09

what I mean, He just did a lot because

18:11

he just loved having a boy because

18:13

he never had one. So he really

18:16

misses my dad. And he, you know, will always

18:18

say when he's looking up and going

18:20

like this, he just feels his spirit

18:23

out there during the game. Um,

18:26

and my dad I took after him,

18:28

So that, you

18:30

know, tells you something. He reminds

18:33

me of him when he's out there just

18:35

going off, pushing people on, yelling, because

18:37

that was my dad.

18:42

Yeah. I was when

18:44

prepping for this interview, I was looking

18:46

at a video from Ohio State when you were

18:48

mad up during game. Oh yeah, identical

18:51

to the chaps or miked

18:53

up during the pin Nike game. And it's

18:56

all right, it's really cool to see.

18:58

You know, you guys are definitely use your

19:00

son I

19:03

love it. I love like when we were prepping, I was like, I

19:05

love her energy. It's the same way, right, and

19:08

I switched years. And obviously

19:12

it was a weird season with COVID. Uh just

19:15

different. You know. I'm sure, like you

19:18

said, you've gone to all of his games, you're used

19:20

to going. He was in Ohio state. Um,

19:22

can you walk us through. I'm sure fans don't fully

19:25

understand. Were you able to see him a lot

19:27

this year? Was there a tight bubble? How

19:29

was that just trying to keep the bubble tight? How

19:31

did that work? I would go

19:33

see him maybe once a week or

19:35

once every two weeks and spend a few

19:37

nights because you know, he moved to Virginia.

19:40

It's about an hour and fifteen minutes

19:42

from us, so that's not far.

19:45

So I would try to go out there, you

19:47

know, spend a night or two with them once

19:49

a week or once every two weeks because

19:51

they only get one day off. And

19:54

I was like, what, since

19:57

this is all new to us, just not knowing

20:00

what the schedule would be like, or you

20:02

know, just anything. But yeah,

20:06

so you can you

20:08

share with us how it wasn't being able

20:10

to see him play at that X and you get to go to the

20:12

game. Oh yeah, it was. It

20:15

was exciting. I mean that first day,

20:17

you know, was it the first game that

20:19

I got to see where he hurt itself in

20:22

the first quarter. So I was

20:24

just hurts inside,

20:27

you know, because I'm just not going to stand that

20:30

going crazy the whole game if he's

20:32

not playing. I mean, honestly, I'll

20:34

support the team, but it's still different

20:36

if your child isn't out there. So

20:39

I was feeling bad for him because

20:42

I know he was upset

20:44

to be injured and can't play,

20:46

I mean period, and so early in the game,

20:49

and he's really besides

20:52

his ankles being spring and on how

20:54

your state, and he played on spring ankles.

20:58

He never missed games because of injuries

21:01

periods. So it's just, you know, it

21:04

was disappointing. But

21:06

he wasn't out as long as I thought he would even

21:09

be, so because you

21:11

know, when you're out, that means it affects your

21:13

stats and just everything, you know

21:15

what I mean when you just think what

21:18

I've learned, it

21:21

just affects a lot still when you don't

21:23

play, besides the fact that you just

21:25

want to play and have fun. But

21:28

he recovered pretty well. It's

21:31

a lot of recovery, you know, acupuncture,

21:34

getting the massage, this that I'm

21:36

like, what are you doing now? And him send any

21:38

pictures getting hit aside and

21:40

this and that. You know, when I'm over

21:43

there, if he's getting it, it's like, I mean, how

21:45

long are you going to be in It's already been an

21:47

hour. But

21:52

it's all good. So now this

21:54

is the first time ever that

21:57

he had some type of downtime.

22:00

I mean really ever, because

22:03

in college, you know, they're still they may

22:06

have a week off and then they're still

22:08

training or in school in

22:11

last year the time it's like I have to go train

22:13

and get ready for the draft, you know what I mean. So this

22:15

is the first time, just period

22:18

that he has, you know, to just sit

22:21

down and take a break. So

22:24

I was worried about that for a minute,

22:26

you know, because when you're used to being on the schedule,

22:28

it's just like a shock when

22:31

you have to be still. Um.

22:35

So we'll see he's doing fine. I

22:37

told him if he gets another tattoo in

22:41

trouble. Yeah.

22:46

I never let him get tattoos,

22:48

you know, or get his ears, peers

22:50

for dye his hair. He couldn't

22:53

do any of that stuff before college. You

22:55

know, I would say when you're twenty one, you

22:57

can get a tattoo, but you're not getting

22:59

a tattoo, just hoping that it

23:01

would last, and of

23:03

course it didn't. The first year in college

23:07

he got a tattoo and his ear peers

23:09

and he dyed his hair. So

23:11

he shared those things one at a time,

23:13

and then his sister told me, you

23:16

know, Chase this that, So they just, you know,

23:18

find a way to tell me. But

23:21

it's just funny because even now he wants

23:24

to let me know what he's doing, even if he

23:26

knows I might not approve, but

23:29

it's mine. Are you still gonna love me

23:32

if I get a tattoo? That's what he said in

23:34

the beginning, Like of course I am.

23:40

So you know, it's it's so wonderful

23:42

just hearing these stories, obviously

23:45

about Chase, but about how you

23:47

know close you are with your

23:49

children, and you know the unity that you have

23:51

within your family. And obviously we have a lot of

23:53

female listeners for The Wild

23:56

Show, and so let's shift gears a little bit

23:58

and talk about you and how you

24:00

were able to kind of create this

24:02

family unit, this bond. What advice

24:04

do you have for women out there that are maybe

24:07

thinking about starting a family, or

24:09

just women in general, on just being positive

24:11

and uplifting and empowering because

24:14

obviously that's who you are because you

24:16

you know, the end product is the woman that

24:18

we're talking to. But then also your

24:21

you know, your children that are amazing

24:24

in and of themselves. So what advice do you have, Well,

24:27

I would say, just be ready to

24:29

be sold out for

24:31

your children. Sometimes

24:34

I feel like some people just aren't ready

24:36

for really what it requires. Because

24:38

even I've always worked, so

24:40

even having a job, a

24:43

husband, you know what I mean, kids,

24:46

that's a lot. As far as even

24:49

you know, having them in activities, that's a

24:51

lot in itself. When you work, it's

24:55

a lot of tire days, whether

24:57

you're married or not, I mean, especially

25:00

when you have more than one child. And

25:02

just being supportive and

25:05

like keeping God first. That's what they

25:07

were taught because we went to church every

25:09

Sunday, Bible study,

25:11

you know, and I had them, you know, participate

25:14

like on a customer service ministry at

25:16

times, and that's what I would share as far as them

25:19

trying, you know, to get them acclimated

25:21

to people and helping them

25:23

to not be shy because I

25:25

was shy, I believe it or not when I was young,

25:28

and I did not want my kids to be shy,

25:31

because you miss out on a lot when you're

25:33

shy. So I would

25:35

make sure they're every play at school,

25:37

being having lead roles, encourage

25:40

them that they could do it, you know, just

25:42

all those things. When they were really young. And

25:45

would Chase, I would teach him it's okay to

25:47

hug and kiss me,

25:50

you know, your parents, in front of your friends.

25:52

And I mean, really these things when they're

25:55

young, because peer pressure is

25:57

terrible. When he was in high school,

26:00

coaches were like, Mama, you kissing him. You

26:02

don't kiss your mother out here before

26:04

a game. And you know, Chase,

26:06

at that point it's like, whatever, I'm going

26:08

to kiss my mother. So you know, it's

26:10

like after the first game at the Matthew

26:13

when he transferred, they were like, man,

26:15

keep kissing them, keep kissing on it. If he plays

26:17

like that because of the kiss kiss

26:20

them all day. But just those

26:22

things. Just love on them, be

26:24

there, stay and watch every scrimmage,

26:28

you know, not go to them all some

26:30

people it's only a scrimmage. It's like, so they

26:32

need to know that you're here, whether

26:34

they play good or you know what I

26:36

mean, or not. Just to have that

26:39

security and that support. Those

26:42

are some really important things. I mean,

26:44

like eating dinner every day together.

26:47

That's what we did. They never

26:49

had a TV in their room, you

26:51

know what I mean, because those things still

26:53

separate the family. I

26:56

mean, these are some prime things I just believe

26:58

that make a difference. Not Chase

27:00

got a cell phone in high school, and of

27:03

course he cried one and one along

27:05

the way, man, Canna, God has had

27:07

phones this. I'm like, well, you won't have one.

27:10

But again, you

27:12

know, they just won't know the blessing that it is

27:15

yet, you know what I mean, They're kids, so

27:18

we have to control that and we can control

27:21

it if we control it. What

27:24

are some other important things,

27:29

you know, we would just make sure we just

27:33

of course control friends, you know who

27:35

spent the night, never really letting them go out

27:37

and spent the night out. I mean, and

27:40

I transform our living room just

27:42

to a casual room

27:44

outside of the family room where they could set

27:46

up the game. So when he did

27:48

have company, I can just walk right over

27:50

there and see what's going on. Because

27:52

again, one bad mistake

27:55

out here can just ruin your child,

27:57

whether it be you know what I mean, from an outside

28:00

that or what and it's just not worth

28:02

taking a risk just

28:05

being kind of strict. I know I was considered

28:07

so strict, but in

28:10

other parents would debate with me. I mean

28:12

he's on a roll. He's this that you can't

28:14

get him a phone. No, do

28:16

what you do and I don't just do what I do,

28:19

you know. And then when he went to college,

28:21

you know how they go back and look at all your social

28:23

media just as

28:25

far as before they even accept you in

28:27

college. And like I would tell Chase,

28:30

that's a teachable moment. Just think about

28:32

you being say in the six and seventh

28:35

grade, being just immature

28:37

making mistakes. They go all

28:40

the way back to whenever you started,

28:42

just to see where your mind is. You

28:44

just never know, so it

28:46

really protects you. But

28:49

kids don't understand that until later. Right,

28:52

So those are just some things.

28:55

Yeah, those are amazing. I

28:57

mean, I'm right with you with the new cell phone and

29:00

you know all of that stuff. I really

29:03

believe in that. So you

29:05

mentioned being shy, So it's a lot

29:07

about a question. We have a lot of interviewees.

29:10

What advice would you give your younger self

29:12

if you could well,

29:22

I just really think the encouragement dealing

29:25

with shyness, it really

29:28

comes from like your parents, you

29:31

know what I mean, that's the help that you need, because

29:33

when you're young and shy, it's

29:36

hard for you to do anything to me

29:38

on your own, you know what I mean,

29:40

if you don't recognize what you are, because

29:43

you know, over time it's you know, you get a little

29:45

older and it's like I recognize

29:48

that I'm shy, and it's like I'm

29:50

scared or nervous. So they're gonna laugh if

29:52

I'm into play this and that just caring

29:55

about that, and I

29:57

don't know, I'm just thinking maybe that's something.

30:00

My mom was really shy too, she

30:03

said when she was young. But

30:06

people are just different. And that's just one

30:08

thing we weren't involved

30:10

in a lot we would do as far as me

30:13

growing up. Just different activities

30:15

with the school and

30:17

maybe with the wreck, you know, the six and eight

30:20

week activities.

30:23

But you know, I

30:25

guess we sent our kids to private

30:27

school from the beginning, and it's

30:29

just a little I mean, I just feel

30:32

like it is a difference in certain

30:34

privates, I mean public schools versus

30:37

private schools. I mean, in just

30:39

so many different areas as

30:41

far as opportunities of activities

30:43

just everything. And I you

30:46

know, debated with people about it, but I

30:48

just really think it's a difference. And

30:51

I'm sure you have kids and you know what's

30:53

goods, what school districts are good, what's

30:55

this that so based

30:58

on at the time, it's like, if we move in this area,

31:01

we're going to have to, you know, just pay

31:03

for school just period. And it's

31:05

like get used to pay it when you pay for daycare,

31:07

just for school forever and you won't feel like you're

31:09

missing it. And that's just what we did.

31:12

So and we switched schools over

31:14

time. If this wasn't right or whatever,

31:17

that's another piece of advice. If

31:19

you had a gut feeling about

31:21

something that's not right in

31:24

a school or just

31:26

with the administration or whatever dealing

31:28

with your child, it's okay to move

31:31

instead of trying to wait and not they yet to

31:33

see you know what I mean. How it's like it

31:36

takes a lot of energy and a lot of paperwork

31:38

because you know, all the paperwork to get

31:40

accepted just so much, but

31:43

it's just worth it because

31:45

my kids have moved, you

31:47

know a few times. It's far

31:49

as schools for different

31:51

reasons. I mean this one one

31:54

school, we went to the

31:56

day of orientation and

31:59

I act this new I

32:01

guess the head over math about

32:04

the curriculum and he asks so unsure

32:07

of what it was. And it's like,

32:09

come on, let's go, we're leaving.

32:11

And the next week we went and registered

32:14

and you enrolled into a different private

32:16

school. I mean, come on, when you're paying to I

32:19

mean, come on now, now

32:23

that's brave. Yeah,

32:26

I'm just saying, you just have to have faith and

32:29

God is who I believe in, I

32:31

mean, and just move on because

32:33

sometimes those signs are meant for you,

32:37

I mean for your circumstances, and other

32:39

people can't really you know,

32:42

compare their circumstances to yours

32:44

and which you want for your kids,

32:46

because only you know really in your

32:48

heart which you want for your kids. So

32:52

and people would talk about us all

32:54

the time, you know, close people.

32:56

I mean you sure it's not you all. I

32:58

mean every every ear you all on a different

33:01

football team like League

33:03

Boys and Girls club, and it's

33:05

just like we're fine. And then you know eventually

33:08

again, like I say, look how things hand

33:11

out, sometimes you just still have to move

33:13

if things don't seem fair. All

33:15

we ask for is fairness. Yeah,

33:18

I mean, come on, now, some coaches. We

33:20

all know about these coaches sometime and literally

33:24

I love that you're saying. Trust you and

33:26

my mom knows exactly really

33:29

worked out. Yeah,

33:31

Carla, Unfortunately we're coming to Anne

33:34

has been so great. Okay,

33:37

where we wrap up, I'm gonna try to get some

33:39

behind the scene and some inside knowledge.

33:42

There's a photo of Chase Young

33:44

after the Eagles game where we

33:46

clunch the NFC East title. He's

33:49

on the phone. He's on the phone. He's on the

33:51

field in his NFC East shirt. I'm

33:54

hoping he was talking to you. And if

33:58

you me

34:00

a text, hey hey

34:02

Carl, that is that you take a talking

34:04

to on the field when he's like my I'm

34:06

reminiscing. You know, he

34:09

had faith time. He's like I'm reminiscing. I'm

34:11

like already, you know,

34:13

because the game just ended. What

34:18

we wanted to know, We wanted to kind of get,

34:20

you know, kind of get his emotions at that time and also

34:23

your emotions. I mean, it was his rookie season. The

34:25

team has undergrow me, a new name, a

34:27

new executive leadership, and I just

34:29

want to get how did it feel just to see

34:32

yours in his rookie year NFC's

34:34

division and then play in the playoff game against Tom Brady.

34:36

He just walking through those emotions. It was just

34:39

so exciting and wonderful, and I was

34:42

just, you know, then when I saw you know, um,

34:45

well I didn't. I don't even know if I expected

34:48

the whole walking out on the field thing. It's never

34:51

happened after a game. So I

34:53

was like, Wow, he's really feeling, you

34:55

know, touched to something extra

34:58

special that day. I

35:00

feel like for that called

35:03

you know, from the field like that. So

35:06

it just made me feel good and just proud.

35:09

I'm just so proud of him. I

35:12

just don't know what to say, you know,

35:15

that's That's like, what am I going to say? Chase? I'm

35:17

just proud, And I always say keep doing

35:19

what you're doing, because I always talk

35:21

to him every game day before the

35:23

game in the morning, I sent him

35:25

a scripture. Then I post something

35:28

like it's go time right before the game.

35:30

Then we talk for about an hour or

35:32

two. You know, he talks to me while

35:35

he's washing up, going

35:37

getting this COVID task, getting this breakfast

35:39

in the hotel, off FaceTime

35:42

and just talk about other

35:44

things, because I don't like talking about

35:46

football all the time, just because that's

35:49

all everybody talks about. So

35:51

we just kind of talk about other stuff. Whatever

35:55

you're doing, if you can keep it up for next season,

36:00

excited about the season, hoping and

36:02

praying that you know,

36:04

we'll be past COVID to at

36:06

least where we can go to the games and

36:09

so I can see where a regular season

36:11

looks. You know, it's light because I had

36:13

never gone to an NFL game until this

36:15

year. Yeah, well, we'll

36:18

definitely see you there soon and we will

36:20

have regular life. But we want you to keep it up, not

36:22

just for next season, but the season after that and

36:24

the season after that and just

36:30

now. I have to hope that he won't want to go to

36:33

the beach and this and that. These are the things

36:35

that I'm telling you. As a mother, it's

36:38

something always on your mind, just

36:41

slight concerned or worry with

36:43

your kids. I'm telling you, I thought it would

36:46

get better the older you get, but it doesn't.

36:48

It's just God,

36:55

he's twenty one now, so he can go to Miami

36:57

because all through called his mom. We're

36:59

going to Miami. The team. I'm like, you're

37:01

not going. I don't care who's going. You're

37:04

not going. I don't care that your in caud

37:06

is this that? So he still has never been

37:08

to Miami, so now he

37:11

can go, so I don't know when he's gonna go. I

37:18

love it, but I

37:20

mean how I talk to you all the death, but

37:23

um is working

37:27

with Mama Carla here in the wild, okayaled

37:32

with your pombombs and the same energy in the

37:34

stands that we see on the sidelines to choose. Yeah,

37:40

thank you, and I see it's the wild. Is something

37:43

when I looked at that that you can join anyone

37:46

can join or what so something

37:49

I could do and get out? Then

37:52

please do you okay, okay, okay,

37:56

yeah, Well I give you all the information

37:58

so that you can come to some of our events to hang

38:00

out with us when we're you know, can do all

38:02

of that. But we still have virtual events going on and everything,

38:04

so we'll make sure we get it. Thank you. I do

38:07

have a big village friends

38:09

from before keys again,

38:13

it's far supporting whatever, so

38:15

just let me know and I will and we will

38:17

all be happy to support. Oh,

38:20

thank you, okay

38:23

38:26
