Torry Martin says he fell into writing by accident. He started writing while living in a remote cabin in Alaska. He later moved to Tennessee where he began writing for Adventures in Odyssey for Focus on the Family. He’s written eight books of comedy sketches and writes for Clubhouse and Leading Hearts magazines. He has a good mind for story, but says he’s been blessed to work with great editors and collaborators. Torry takes us into his sketch and character writing process. Then we talk about the different types of comedy and humor writing. He shares tips about finding and working with a collaborator, which for him is important. Torry shares his feelings about the vaue of attending writers conferences to get “found” by editors and agents. You’ll smile at Torry’s story about winning awards in an international sketch writing contest, which launched his first book and his writing career. His advice for struggling writers is spot on while his definition of what it means to be a successful writer is genuine and heartwarming.
