What the IMF can do
The IMF stands ready to mobilize its $1 trillion lending capacity to help our membership. As a first line of defense, the Fund can deploy its flexible and rapid-disbursing emergency response toolkit to help countries with urgent balance-of-payment needs.
These instruments could provide in the order of $50 billion to emerging and developing economies. Up to $10 billion could be made available to our low-income members through our concessional financing facilities, which carry zero interest rates.

US Banks Suspend Stock Buybacks

all major US banks which are ending stock buybacks, with the Financial Service Forum which represents eight of the nation’s largest banks including JPM, BofA, Citi, Goldman and others are done repurchasing stock until at least the end of Q2.
The forum said its members will use their funds to help businesses through the tough times ahead. The decision on buybacks is consistent with our collective objective to use our significant capital and liquidity to provide maximum support to individuals, small businesses, and the broader economy through lending and other important services; the FSF said. The decision is consistent with actions by the Federal Reserve, the administration, and the Congress, the statement read.

That the disappearance of buybacks is a problem is an understatement: as we reported recently for the past decade, the only source of buying have been companies themselves, repurchasing their stock.

Supreme Court Cancels Oral Arguments For March, Delaying A Hearing On Trump’s Tax Returns

The Supreme Court on Monday postponed oral arguments scheduled for later in March , a move that could delay a decision on whether President Donald Trump must release his tax returns.
Justices were scheduled to hear oral arguments from March 23 to 25 and March 30 to April 1.

Trump Administration Doles Out $175 Million Contract For Border Wall Construction

The Trump administration announced a $175 million contract to build barriers along the southern Texas border in areas where no border wall previously existed.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, announced that it has awarded a contract totaling $175,577 to build roughly 15 miles of border wall in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, in an area located in Starr County, Texas.
Construction is slated to begin as early as this year, and will include a 30-foot tall steel bollard wall, all-weather roads, enforcement cameras, lighting and other technology in order to “create a complete enforcement zone.

House Coronavirus Response Bill Hits Snag – Pelosi STILL Working on Corrections with Steve Mnuchin

The House of Representatives passed a Coronavirus response bill on Saturday, however the drama continued into Monday because the House Democrats cannot come to an agreement with the White House over what needs to be changed.
Pelosi is still working out the “major differences” with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
Last week it was reported that Pelosi tried to sneak in federal funding for abortion into the Coronavirus response bill.
Now it’s being reported that the House met twice on Monday morning and gaveled in and gaveled out and have NOT approved the changes to the bill.
This is a huge problem because the House cannot send the bill to the Senate until they approve of the technical changes.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R–TX) insists on reading the changes (rightfully so) to the bill because as Pelosi has shown, she will sneak in funding for Democrat-backed causes.
Never forget that Nancy Pelosi held up a vote on Coronavirus a few weeks ago so that Democrats could run ads against Republicans on Super Tuesday.
