Price Atkinson recaps the 118th Army vs. Navy Game from snowy Philadelphia, including his thoughts, observations and opinions from the Black Knights’ 14-13 thriller over Navy.
Hear some of the game’s key plays from both the Army and Navy radio broadcast teams, as Army rallied from a 10-7 halftime deficit and overcame an incredible performance by Navy QB Malcolm Perry to capture its first Commander-In-Chief Trophy since 1996. The win also gave Army its first back-to-back wins in the series since 1995-96.
Price plays postgame interviews from Army’s Athletic Director Boo Corrigan, linebacker Alex Aukerman and running back John Trainor as well as Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo and quarterback Malcolm Perry. Plus, Price gives out his weekly “game ball” to Army senior defensive lineman John Voit who made a game-saving, shoestring tackle keeping Perry out of the end zone and forcing the Mids to settle for a field goal.
Up next, Price is joined by Carl Lebert and Eric Engquist of USAA. As the title sponsor of the 118th Army-Navy Game, USAA Chief Operating Officer Carl Liebert and VP, Military Affinity & Sponsorships Eric Engquist talk about their role with “America’s Game” and how listeners can become members and join the USAA team.
And in the final segment, Price has his “Faces of the Fallen” segment as he honors fallen 1995 Air Force Academy graduate and Lt. Colonel Frank Diehl Bryant Jr. The former team captain and MVP of the Falcon wrestling team was one of eight airmen killed April 27, 2011 in Kabul, Afghanistan by an armed gunman at Kabul International Airport. A native of Knoxville, TN, Bryant was a 16-year veteran of the United States Air Force who flew more than a dozen F-18 bombing missions in Baghdad.
Next week on “Yards and Stripes,” we’ll have our “Bowl Preview Special” previewing the Armed Forces Bowl (Army vs San Diego State – Dec. 23) and the Military Bowl (Navy vs Virginia – Dec. 28).
