in Heaven. No matter

0:28

after this short word from our sponsor,

0:30

we will pray through today's prayer of

0:33

quiet contemplation this Holy Saturday, together.

0:59

The historical Jesus podcast is

1:01

the sweeping saga of the

1:03

life and times of Galilean

1:05

Jesus of Nazareth, as well

1:08

as the faith, religion, and

1:10

church founded to honor and

1:12

disseminate His acts and teachings.

1:15

Join me, Marc Vignette, on

1:17

this fascinating journey through time,

1:19

exploring the many great works

1:21

of Christian theology, literature, architecture,

1:24

music, and art inspired by

1:26

the words of the words

1:28

and deeds of Jesus Christ.

1:40

A Prayer for Quiet Contemplation This

1:42

Holy Saturday, written in

1:44

red by Kyle Norman. One

1:48

of the churches where I served had

1:50

an eternal flame suspended above

1:52

the altar. An

1:54

eternal flame is a Waxen candle

1:57

that symbolizes the ever presence

1:59

of God. Throughout

2:01

the week as the candle burns

2:03

down, the flame is then passed

2:05

to another candle which is then

2:07

suspended above the altar. It is

2:09

to be a visual representation of

2:11

the light of Jesus that forever

2:13

signs upon us. The. Flame

2:16

never goes out. It

2:18

flickers twenty four hours a day. Seven.

2:21

Days a week. At

2:23

this turret, Whenever we celebrated the

2:26

yearly remembrance of Christ's death, the

2:28

eternal flame would be marched out

2:30

of the sanctuary. What?

2:33

I found fascinating was that the

2:35

flame appeared to be gone. the

2:37

church light and darkness. But

2:40

off in another room, amongst the

2:43

robes and the books, the candles

2:45

still flickered. Even though

2:47

we couldn't see the flame, it still burned.

2:50

Christ. Was still present.

2:53

There's something profound about the stillness

2:56

of Holy Saturday. Traditionally,

2:58

Holy Saturday is the where

3:00

the church affirms that Jesus

3:02

descends to the dead. Jesus.

3:05

Enters the place of a dad

3:07

releasing the captives from prison and

3:09

disarming the devil. His powers. And.

3:12

Yet as much as we might

3:15

recognize this day, a victory. Holy

3:18

Saturday's is also a

3:20

day of stillness. Jesus

3:23

lies motionless and the grave.

3:26

And this stillness of Holy

3:28

Saturday is a deep expression

3:30

of Sabbaths. Just as

3:33

God rest of from the

3:35

activity of creation on that

3:37

first seventh day, so now

3:39

Jesus rests from the activity

3:41

of a recreates. On

3:43

this seventh day. Holy

3:46

Saturday binds Good Friday and

3:48

Easter Sunday together. It's

3:51

a time where we whole the to

3:53

realities before us. We. Contemplate

3:56

Christ's death for our sin.

3:58

a deaths that was right hours, but

4:02

we also look to the resurrection and

4:04

in that light we recognize that

4:07

we can stop all

4:09

our spiritual strivings. The

4:12

Saturday between Good Friday and Easter

4:14

Sunday calls us

4:16

to rest in Christ's

4:19

presence because the

4:21

work of sacrifice and offering is

4:23

complete and the glory

4:25

of the resurrection is about to dawn. So

4:28

on this Holy Saturday we breathe

4:30

in all that God has wrought

4:32

for us. Resting

4:35

with Jesus on Holy Saturday

4:37

recalibrates our spiritual lives and

4:40

let's be honest we

4:42

all need this recalibration from time to

4:44

time. Scripture

4:47

often talks about how we are called

4:49

to wait upon the Lord to be

4:51

still in the presence of God. Scripture

4:55

never says hurry up and know

4:57

that I am God. The Bible

4:59

doesn't say those who are busy

5:01

for the Lord will renew their

5:03

strength and

5:05

yet in this fast-paced world of ours

5:07

it can be easy to fall into

5:09

this trap to believe that Jesus responds

5:11

to the plethora of our actions and

5:14

the manyness of our words and

5:16

so Holy Saturday calls us

5:19

to stop, to

5:21

recognize that the work has been done. Sin

5:24

has been atoned for, we

5:26

are free and so

5:29

we rest. This

5:31

place of quiet reflection

5:33

and contemplation calls

5:36

us to recognize that our redemption

5:38

isn't found in the satisfaction of wants

5:41

and wishes or in

5:43

the mastery of our time abound selves.

5:46

It's found in resting in Christ's

5:48

work and

5:50

so we reach out for Christ's

5:52

presence before we reach out for

5:54

a particular answer or action. We

5:57

dare to believe that Christ stillness

5:59

does not mean His absence. As

6:03

we rest, we look forward

6:05

to the coming resurrection, confident

6:08

in its arrival. Let

6:11

us pray. Princess

6:14

Jesus, I place myself

6:16

before You in quiet and

6:18

peace on this holy Saturday. As

6:22

I reflect upon Your death upon the cross,

6:24

I thank You for Your saving work. I

6:27

thank You that You had me in mind

6:30

as the nails struck Your hands and

6:32

feet and spear pierced Your side. I

6:36

thank You for Your saving activity on the

6:38

cross and for setting me

6:40

free from all the sin that threatens my

6:42

life with You. Lord,

6:45

as You rested from Your work on this

6:47

holy day, I pray

6:49

that You lead me into a time of

6:52

rest and peace. Help

6:54

me to still the call of activity in

6:56

my soul, the frenetic busyness

6:59

that can easily take over my life.

7:03

Help me to recognize the stillness

7:05

of Your presence, a

7:07

stillness that beckons me to

7:09

follow You to quiet places

7:11

for rest and refreshment. In

7:15

the quiet places of my day, may

7:17

You draw my attention to Your presence. Push

7:20

against all that distracts me and

7:22

overwhelms me. As

7:25

my body breathes deeply the air

7:27

around me, may my soul breathe

7:29

deeply Your spirit of life and

7:32

peace. Lord,

7:34

as You rested this holy

7:36

Saturday, awaiting Your

7:38

triumphant resurrection, help

7:41

me to anticipate the coming of the

7:43

third day where You call me to

7:46

new life. Give

7:48

me eyes to see where You call me

7:50

forward in faith, and prepare

7:52

me, O Lord, to receive Your

7:54

victory anew and to

7:57

welcome Your resurrection in celebration

7:59

and wonderful. all

8:01

of this I pray in the

8:04

name of Jesus Christ my Lord.

8:06

Amen. Hey

8:40

everybody, I'm Dale. And I'm Tamara. And

8:42

we're hosts of the KINOS Project podcast.

8:45

Where we help you tackle ancient Christian truths

8:47

in everyday setting. The word KINOS means

8:50

new and that's exactly what we want to

8:52

do on our podcast. Bring something new from

8:54

what is old in our faith. And

8:56

on this show you might hear us

8:58

explore topics like what the Bible has

9:00

to say about student loan forgiveness. Discuss

9:03

how the Satanic temple affects a view

9:05

of religious liberty in America. Or even

9:07

question why is it that so many

9:09

people are having rapture anxiety. To
