Now Greg Jenner, host of You’re Dead To Me, has a bit of an advantage when it comes to producing an amazing podcast he’s one of people behind the hit BBC series Horrible Histories (history is way more fun now than when I was at school). But I can’t hold this against him as he seems like a jolly nice guy. Each episode focuses on a different historical subject with two guests, and expert and a non-expert (often a comedian) who often does seem to have a passing interest in the subject already. They then set about telling the story of Genghis Khan, Vampires, Chocolate, the Ancient Olympics and so much more. The guests bounce off one another and keep the conversation flowing. It’s fun and lightweight but you’ll still find yourself learning a lot. Oh, and more episodes with Shappi please!
It's a great combo of content and good humor. I really enjoy that guest comedians are not some randos cracking stupid jokes, but people involved and intrigued in the matter cracking stupid jokes on the subjects. I love that Greg lets the historians speak on the matter and getting into the nuance of the subject. It's also a very good pace, and even the hour long episodes are too short! Faves: Medicine, LGBTQ History, Mansa Musa, The Aztecs, Lord Byron, Neanderthals, Battle of Salamis, Babylonians
Have been loving this show! Such a great combo of comedy and information.
Great facts, lots of funny stories too!
What a great way to learn more and laugh lots.
Laughing and learning
Brilliant history show delivered covering topics that you are both familiar and unfamiliar with. A particular highlight is the 2-minute opportunity the expert gets to tell us about why they think that subject is so interesting.
I love this show. Greg's enthusiasm and humour, alongside the academic and comedic guests makes this show a thoroughly enjoyable yet educational romp through history. The longer and edited versions of episodes adds to the wider appeal, even if I prefer the longer versions, I still listen to both versions as I can't get enough. One of the podcasts that inspired me to create my series. Wonderful.
With most podcasts I subscribe to, I'll download new episodes and listen to them when I get a chance. But whenever I see a new episode of this podcast in my feed, I immediately listen to it. It's funny, it's informative, it's history done right!
I love the combination of history and humour. Greg Jenner is a genial host and as an historian knows his stuff! The guests are diverse and the topics are too. I really like the fact that it's not just Western focussed history.
My favorite history podcast.
