Fans of Wolf 359 will love this. I found Zero Hours before Wolf and really enjoyed the conceit of the show. After finishing Wolf, I came back to Zero and it was even more satisfying. Some stories are better than others, but even the ones I wasn't crazy about were well produced and obvious labors of love between creatives with a deep and abiding affection for one another. Sometimes a peek behind the curtain enhances the experience of a story instead of taking you out of it.
Sound Quality: BProduction: BVoice Acting: B+Stories: range from B to A- Zero Hours is an anthology series with one or two voice actors, acting not narrating. According to the podcast description, each story is about something that feels like the end of the world, personally or globally. One story, my favorite, is about a woman who hates celebrating her birthday and comes home to her partner, who wants to celebrate her birthday. However, its really about life after a series of events that have led to the dying out of many species and changes to the other, including humans, that may lead to the species dying out. All the stories are like that; they start as one story and end up being about something else entirely, in surprising ways. Those who regularly listen to audio dramas will recognize the voices and writers from some of the more popular audio dramas. The direction, sound other than voices, and production are what we have come to expect. The voice acting is superb in all the stories. However, this is a professionally produced podcast so I am a bit disappointed. I have heard a lot better audiodramas from amateurs. Please note: As Disraeli said, "How much easier it is to be critical than to be correct". I am taking the easy way out so feel free to take advantage of my laziness and correct me.
I remember waiting for this to come out and just Knowing it was going to be great. And I was right! Each episode is it's own story, and each one has it's own charm. Some might be a little more to my liking than others, but they're all beautifully made and easy to listen to. Overall fantastic, as to be expected from a crew I'd trust with my life.
I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I started listening to this. Once I got started, I couldn't stop. Each episode is so beautifully crafted and so incredibly human that I fell in love. The stories make you think and wonder at the reality it presents. It is rare to come across a story so artfully and profoundly told.
I am not sure I have the right words for this podcast. It was such an amazing experience from start to finish. Hearing so many amazing voices in such amazing stories was a true treat. The way everything ties together is just wonderful. Already a favorite show and I know I am going to be doing a re-listen soon. Truly just a gem of a show, and I can not recommend it highly enough.
I expected nothing less than brilliant from this and wasn't disappointed. Funny, disappointing, sad, bittersweet, heartbreaking, hopeful. Snapshots of what has been and what could be. Loved every moment.
A decent anthology series that explore different types of stories around the idea of the end of the world. like with most of these types of shows some episodes hit harder than others but luckily there aren't any true duds in here. My biggest issue is that some of the episodes feel longer than they need to be but if you're looking for a well-made show give this a shot.
Awesome take on "the end of the world". Got a little existential for my anxiety but it was great story telling.
