RATING
Rabbits features an intriguing premise that feels exactly right for our conspiracy theory-addled times. There's a journalist searching for her missing friend, a centuries-old game that may or may not be deadly (if it even exists at all), ominous clues and warnings doled out by archaic video games, time-traveling radio shows, and an array of characters who end every conversation with, "I can't talk about this over the phone so you'll need to meet me in the dark basement of a seedy warehouse on the other side of the railroad tracks at the stroke of midnight and then I'll drop a few hints that you'll have to figure out before meeting me later on in the dark substation of the old tunnel downtown on Friday the 13th so I can make more cryptic remarks for you to decipher, I mean what could possibly go wrong? and oh, by the way, come alone." This, basically, is Rabbits in a nutshell. Overall, Season 1 is frequently quite good. Occasionally frustrating but the strong lead carries the show. Season 2 has more problems, what with its interminable pauses, endless repetition, dry readings, and a final episode that feels unfinished--and not in a Lynchian kind of way that leaves you appreciating the enigma, either. Season 2 doesn't work for me but 1 was good enough for me to split the difference and give Rabbits 3 stars.
