RATING
Top notch. Very interesting and often surprising at the twists the tales take. You think you know what is coming and you get a surprise. I've thoroughly enjoyed all episodes except for one (and everyone is allowed a stinker now and then). Well written and Tim Harford isn't going to attach his name to something so-so.
This has moments of worth where it's an informative investigative podcast where they talk to her victims and how they were taken as well the depths of depravity cheating people she knew. But then it turns into a gossip page podcast where they cover her jewelry ("oh, it's a bomb" or whatever), clothing, which suburb and the like. It just goes on and on like this. If this series had an editor and cut this down by half, it would be good but in it's current form, I can't listen any longer.
This has potential but it's sadly lost in the weeds. When Evans is on, he is very good but sadly he gets distracted and forgets he is doing a podcast. His guests can be very annoying and overbearing with their stupid and frequent comments. If the host did this alone or had a producer who had two buttons: One button would light up a sign for Evans that said "FOCUS!" and the other a shock collar for the guest, this podcast could be excellent. I found his seven part cops series to be top notch and the guest Propaganda to be informative and judicious with his comments. But too often you get fifteen minutes in and you've had four minutes of actual content. Sadly, I've given up on this podcast.
