This episode was heartbreaking. I hope this intensifies outrage against the literal and culture genocide of Uyghur peoples. One thing the episode didn't mention is that it's likely that many Uyghur have been put to work due to the Covid-19 in workshops where Han Chinese workers are in quarantine / lockdown. It did make me think of the residential school system Canada had in place until 1995 and how, even though it was immensely damaging for First Nations people, the government did not succeed. People are resilient.
Was listening to this in bed, but ended up having to get out of bed to watch Ikea Heights.
Gives me the words to understand how to think about my parents.
