Dr. Derek Abbott is a physicist and electronic engineer. Currently, he is a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Unvirsity of Adelaide. He is best known for his amateur detective work on the Somerton Man unsolved murder case, which he has been working on since 2009.In the 1970s, Abbott conducted research into microchip design at GEC Hirst Research Centre, and later he worked as a microchip designer at Austek Microsystems in Adelaide.Abbott received his B.Sc. in Physics from Loughborough University and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Adelaide.
