Sara Byala is a historian whose research focuses on African history, global commerce, and the cultural impact of multinational corporations. She serves as an associate professor of history at Drexel University. Byala is the author of "Bottled: How Coca-Cola Became African," published by Oxford University Press in 2023. The book examines the history of The Coca-Cola Company across the African continent, analyzing how local bottlers, governments, and consumers shaped the company’s expansion. Drawing on corporate archives and regional case studies, Byala explores how Coca-Cola’s distribution networks, marketing strategies, and partnerships helped embed the brand in African economic and social life during the twentieth century.
