  16. This week I discuss the creation of one of the most infamous documents of American history - the Declaration of Independence. Vying for a way to be taken seriously and gain much needed support for their act of treason, the members of the Continental Congress drafted perhaps the most infamous piece of propaganda - the Declaration of Independence. While this document has historical importance and has influenced generations of those seeking their freedom, the original document had no legal basis or standing. Tune in as I discuss this and more! 19.  What do Pink Floyd, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Tears For Fears, and Robert Palmer have in common? Yes, that's right they're all musicians. You also probably have at least one of them (hopefully more) in your record collection. But that's not all, the connection runs a bit deeper than that—and that connection is legendary musician Guy Pratt. With a music career spanning more than thirty years, Guy is best known for his prolific Bass playing with a myriad of legendary acts. He's also been an actor and worked on a multitude of TV and film soundtracks including Dick Tracy, Last Action Hero, and Hackers just to name a few. Guy also runs a successful Youtube series called "Lockdown Licks", and has a book that he has written called "My Bass and Other Animals". In this episode, we had the pleasure of being able to sit down for a quick chat with Guy where talked music, his career highlights, and even Detroit. It's not every day that you get to sit down with someone who's resume is as impressive as Guy's so you all are in for a real treat with this one. 24. Three stories this week from the Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen about people that are matchless. The first is the tale of the emperor and his new clothes, where an emperor who needs a new coat every hour gets an offer he can't refuse. The second is about a boy who wants to marry the daughter of a monarch and all the cool gadgets and racially insensitive cosplaying he'll do to win her hand, and the third is the story of the little match girl. That one literally has matches in it. I still do puns. The creature is the scariest couch potato in the world. If the seas have couches. I mean, they probably have lots of couches with how much trash we throw into them. Ok, I'm sad now. 25. We all miss our favorite coffee shops. It's part of our routine. It's habitual. Coffee, or any caffeinated drink, also happens to be addictive. So how are coffee shops surviving during this pandemic? This pandemic has highlighted our need for convenience and minimal touching. With one click, we have our favorite drink ready for pick up, without the need to touch anything! This is the future of digital payments that we've seen work really well in countries like China. In today's episode, we learn about the coffee shop business and how they relate to the evolution of digital payments. We sit down with Tim Griffin, founder of Cloosiv, a payment platform focused on coffee shops. We learn: Why the US is behind in digital payments in comparison to China. How Starbucks created one of the most used payments app. How the coffee shop business works, and how they're adapting during COVID. Why contactless payments are the future. This is our last episode of the season, but we'll be returning soon after a short break. Thank you to all our guests from this season for participating. Thank you to Olivia Briley for producing and to Maia Tarrel for editing the podcast. Thanks to my wife for doing all our pre-rolls and editing the notes. Thank you to our listeners, for sticking with us and giving us your time. Stay safe out there.

Ice-T stoked the wrath of the President of the United States, led the life of a successful jewel thief, ran with one of LA’s most notorious street gangs, the Crips, and was a soldier in the US Army. Along the way, he invented gangsta rap. But it wouldn’t be rap music that would threaten his career—it would be hardcore music, particularly the song “Cop Killer” from his punk band, Body Count.

  38. This conversation explores the subject of Parapsychology with renowned U.S. expert Loyd Auerbach MS, who works in the San Francisco Bay Area (California). We discuss his book ‘Reincarnation, Possession and Channeling’ and various PSI experiences. Loyd shares details that can help to differentiate what’s psychological, or from the subconscious mind, and what can be considered extra normal phenomena. We consider psychological conditions that may account for particular forms of channeling and how to attempt to validate channeled information. Parapsychology also examines and performs studies involving energetic healing (known as Psychokinesis); Loyd shares examples of this, as well as a fascinating study on the power of intention. Having open discussions and asking all sorts of questions is how we understand the seen and unseen world around us. Loyd mentions his new book 'Near Death: A Raney/Daye Investigation' - the first book of a new series that he co-authored with Rich Hosek & Arnold Rudnick - find it on Amazon Find more of Loyd's books and his bio on his Author Page Organizations: President of the Forever Family Foundation foreverfamilyfoundation.org Rhine Research Centre rhineonline.org Facebook YouTube   References from the show: Effects of intentionally enhanced chocolate on mood: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17905358/   lifecontinuing.com

  40. Former health-care executive Wendell Potter spent part of 2020 publishing high-profile apologies for the lies he says he told the American people in his old job—and trying to debunk the myths he once sold. The story of how he became a whistle-blower is a modern-day Christmas Carol. And it's a story about the long, messy process of change—whether that’s changing your own life or trying to change a bigger system. It’s a great way to close out a pretty-terrible year.Another cheerful note: THANK YOU!!! Your support for this show has MAXED OUT the matching program NewsMatch. It’s a huge, huge boost for our work in 2021.Of course, we could still use your support before the year ends. We would love it. There is SO much work ahead.AND, if you’re looking for other places to help out, here are a few places doing powerful work:Remote Area Medical runs free pop-up clinics— and seeing one played a role in Wendell Potter’s move from Scrooge to whistle-blower.Get Us PPE helps front-line workers get the personal protective equipment they need to stay safe during the pandemic. (And yep, that is still a thing. Grrr…)RIP Medical Debt pools money to buy up old medical debt and forgive it. By doing bulk transactions, they can take a $5 donation and use it to discharge $500 in debt. (We featured their work in a 2019 episode, Christmas in July.)MLK 50: Justice Through Journalism does powerful investigative reporting. After they exposed how the biggest hospital in Memphis was suing patients over unpaid bills, the hospital was shamed into dropping thousands of lawsuits and erasing almost $12 million in debt. And of course it is absolutely not too late to support this show.
