Communicate Like A Mind Reader (Ep003)
Mind reading tricks can be unnerving, but they don't have to be as scary as some people think they are. Mentalist Jonathan Pritchard explains how he convinces people he can read minds by using the same psychological techniques employed by sales, marketing, and other business leaders. Jonathan has appeared on America's Got Talent, entertained United States troops stationed overseas, and performed on main stages in Las Vegas. He discusses his 25 years of experience as a mentalist, what it's taught him about interacting with other people, and how you too can communicate like a mind reader.  More reading from Curiosity: Cherenkov Radiation Is The Beautiful Blue Result Of Superluminal Speeds The Magician Who Tricked Nazis With Illusions 18 World Languages Have One Remaining Speaker The Two-Card Monte is An Easy Magic Trick For Anyone 3 Astonishing Coin Magic Tricks—And How To Pull Them Off Mentalism and psychology links: Illusion Chasers blog on Scientific American James Randi Educational Foundation James Randi on The One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge "Sleights of Mind: What the Neuroscience of Magic Reveals about Our Everyday Deceptions" "The War Magician" More from Jonathan Pritchard: "Learn Like A Mind Reader: Strategies for learning anything at the speed of thought" "Perfect Recall: Increase your confidence, learn faster, be more productive, and be memorable" [ ______ ] Like A Mind Reader (Website) Like A Mind Reader on Facebook More books from Jonathan To learn more about this topic and many others check out, download our 5-star iOS or Android app and join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter. Mentalist Jonathan Pritchard: “You can’t learn how to ‘control’ other people’s minds until you can control yours”
Brian Noonan (on for Justin Kaufmann) visits with mentalist Jonathan Pritchard, who talks about his new book [Think] Like a Mind Reader, which details how to apply common magician/mentalist techniques to your own professional and personal life.  They discuss what it is about our brains that even make ‘mind-reading’ possible as a trick, how his stage show allows him to demonstrate and involve his audience in harnessing mental techniques; he demonstrates a trick on Brian, and more.
Using Mentalist Techniques to Help Business Grow with Jonathan Pritchard
This is The Do It For Yourself Podcast.  Each week I sit down with someone who is doing it for themselves and chasing a dream they just couldn’t suppress.  This is often speakers, entrepreneurs, or athletes.  They all share one thing in common, they are overcoming challenges and never giving up.  Someone who is Doing It For Themselves is not selfish in their pursuit, they are simply chasing a dream or working towards a goal because it is something THEY want to do.  They are not forging down a path because society or someone is telling them it’s what they should be doing. This week I have the opportunity to sit down with a VERY interesting guest that I never imagined would be on The Do It For Yourself Podcast.  I am joined by Jonathan Pritchard who is a mentalist helping companies relate to their customers and sell their products.   Jonathan's journey actually started in magic and not as a mentalist.  He began doing magic as a kid and he absolutely loved it.  Jonathan was constantly practicing tricks on his family and then his friends as he got older.  As Jonathan got older, he was taught how to juggle.  He began juggling with tennis balls and then worked his way up to pins through a summer camp that his parents had placed him in.  Jonathan began to realize that the more he implemented from this mentor, the more success he began to have.   Once in college, Jonathan wiggled his way into an amazing relationship with a local restaurant when he went to dinner one night.  He realized that this local restaurant had a very long wait on the weekends and so he went to the manager and offered to entertain the guests as they waited for their tables.  Jonathan worked out to trade off some of his work for dinner credits.  He began meeting very high-level executives while they were waiting for their tables.  Jonathan began booking gigs outside of the restaurant and it was a win-win situation for everyone involved.  The restaurant was keeping customers entertained while they waited for their tables so they didn't leave, he was earning money and he was booking new gigs.   Jonathan was in a very serious relationship after college and he was traveling around a lot during this time working for all of these companies.  Even though on the outside it seemed like Jonathan had everything going on for him.  It was, however, the exact opposite.  He was in a relationship that was not good for him, but instead of confronting the issue, he took the easy way out and cheated on his wife thinking this would make it go away.  In a way it did, but Jonathan realized he needed to gain some discipline in his life.  He began doing kung-fu every day to gain this discipline.   From building this structure, Jonathan began to get back on track and building his business back up.  It gave him the ability to put things together and realize that he had something to share with the world.   Jonathan has since built up an amazing resume of companies that he has worked with and helped connect with their customers on a higher level.     I really hope that you enjoy this interview with Jonathan as much as I did!   Jonathan's twitter Jonathan's Website Do It for Yourself Instagram Support the show here!

Jonathan help companies connect with their people. Jonathan have learned how to do that after nearly 25 years’ experience on and off stage. As a professional communicator, it’s his job to know how to connect with anyone, anytime. Ask Jonathan’s friends, they’ll tell you it’s his superpower, but Jonathan don’t come by it naturally. Jonathan had to learn it the hard way. Jonathan grew up as a poor kid in the mountains of North Carolina where he was painfully shy. Eventually Jonathan learned how to overcome it, and developed strategies for building confidence, and finding common ground with anyone. As a mentalist Jonathan have been on America’s Got Talent, entertained United States troops stationed overseas, performed on Vegas main stages, cruise ships, and on down the list goes. Eventually Jonathan figured out that the same psychological techniques that he use on stage to make people believe Jonathan can read minds, are the same techniques the best business people use in sales, marketing, and every other part of business. Now, companies like State Farm Insurance, Wells Fargo, General Assembly, Theraband, or Avant Credit hire Jonathan to help them connect with their employees at events, training conferences, and any time people gather; with their clients at tradeshows, customer appreciation events, or hospitality suites; and with their prospective customers through sharpening their marketing efforts. Jonathan now take people behind the curtain and teach them how to connect like a mind reader. Jonathan love helping people discover the same magic of connecting with others as I have for 25 years. When Jonathan is not on the road he get his mail in Chicago, maintain my black-belt martial arts teaching certification, and paint in Jonathan’s free time. Logocentrifugal 71 - Jonathan "If you think that's magic, you should see my" Pritchard
Jonathan Pritchard is a man who lives a very uncommon life. He's made his way through the world as a mentalist, juggler and magician of sorts, creating a path for himself that veers well off of the beaten path.  Along the way, he realized that the skills he had developed to engage an audience and to lead them into a perception of the world that was different than the one they walked into his room with could be used to create a lasting and beneficial difference in their lives. So, he set about doing just that. Motivational Mentalist might seem like an odd career path, but nevertheless, the man has chosen it and built it into what can only be described as a unique legacy. We talked about physical reality and it's relationship with imagination, mental tools and frames to help catalyze change in your life, his fascinating history and quite a bit more.  There's something for everyone in here, and don't let the idea of "woo-woo" so often attached to a man in Jonathan's industry scare you off, he's got a very grounded perspective and makes sure to tie his ideas into the real-world in a very clear and understandable way. It was great getting to know Jonathan, and I'm pleased to share this conversation with you. Want more from Jonathan Pritchard? 245 Communicate Effectively To Build Your Relationships; Jonathan Pritchard
Jonathan Pritchard reads minds. He’s performed on Vegas main stages, appeared on America’s Got Talent, and entertained troops stationed overseas. He’s considered a touring mentalist. All of his skills are based on applied psychology. And now he’ll take you behind the mental curtain and show you how to use the same psychology in your life. Jonathan is also an expert martial arts instructor. He thinks of the physical practice of martial arts as a moving meditation, much like Yoga. He explains it's all about creating & maintaining healthy boundaries, and being aware of your own thoughts & behaviors. Contact Info Website: Most Influential Person Robert Pirsig (Author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) Effect on Emotions Mindfulness has really helped me not use my emotions as justification for poor behavior. I like to think about emotions more as a barometer for how well my needs are being met. Then, thinking about the needs that are not being met, what's the best way, the best strategy that helps the most people to get what it is that I need right now? Instead of just lashing out or being grumpy for no reason. It's all based on communication skills. The more effectively you can communicate, the easier your needs are met, the better your relationships get. Thoughts on Breathing Oh man, we think we're really good at breathing because it's something we do all the time, but oh lord, we're really bad at breathing. Just focusing on your breathing and doing deep-breath exercises ... breathing is your link between your conscious mind, which is such a small part of your awareness and your physical being that is you. Breathing is kind of the bridge between those two. The more you focus on your breathing, and practice your breathing, the better you get at being in your body instead of feeling like you're just this brain driving this big meat puppet. Suggested Resources Book: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill App: Google Keep Bullying Story I definitely was bullied in elementary school. Being quiet, being weird, I was easy prey. There is a guy that used to call me names. I was a very sensitive child so I would come home crying and just kind of learn to endure it. That was the path that I chose. Later in life, I've come to understand that that makes more sense for them than it does me. It says more about them than my self-worth or my ability to do whatever. Understanding that it's not a commentary on my skills, but also really, truly believing that everybody is doing the best they know how even the bully. A lot of times, I feel like a lot of bullies feel like they're doing you a favor. You're weird, you're weak. People are going to take advantage of that so you need to toughen up. So I'm helping you. This is how I know how to help you. Totally misguided, maybe not the most effective way to do it. When you wrap your head around that, you understand that they are trying the best that they know how and in some bizarre leap of logic, they think this is the best thing to be doing right now. That's really difficult for kids to handle. That is a level of awareness and presence that we aren't taught in school. That is not what is culturally approved of.

Mind Reader – Author Jonathan Pritchard: Think Like A Mind Reader Interview
Mind Reader – Author Jonathan Pritchard: Think Like A Mind Reader Interview Jonathan Pritchard has traveled the world as a mentalist, mind reader, and entertainer performing for thousands of fans demonstrating feats of the mind that are simply inexplicable. He’s performed on Vegas main stages, helped levitate American astronaut Ed Lu, entertained our troops stationed overseas, appeared on national TV, consulted for Criss Angel, and more. You might think he was born naturally outgoing, but you’d be mistaken. He was painfully shy as a child growing up in a trailer in the mountains of North Carolina. He’s had to learn the lessons for success the hard way and now he wants to share his experience with you. A couple years back he realized the psychological techniques he uses on stage are exactly the same he used off stage in his own life, business, and friendships to create a life that fit him perfectly. That’s when he understood he could do so much more for the world than help an audience forget their troubles for an hour; he could show them how to solve them forever! That’s why he wrote this book: to share the exact strategies he’s used to overcome his crippling shyness, overcome overwhelming depression after a divorce, and more. mind reader - dustin lynch - mind reader (audio). Ep. 27: Jonathan Pritchard - Mind Reading, Magic, "Echo Time" vs "Real Time"
What would life be like if you could read people’s minds? Of course “mind reading” isn’t magic.  However, why mind reading tricks work is fascinating stuff.  What is even more fascinating is knowing the power of an understanding of how the mind works. This can be used to take risks successfully, improve performance, and design your life.  That is exactly what I discuss with my guest on this week’s episode (among many other things). Meet “mind reader”, mentalist, coach, author and entertainer Jonathan Pritchard (check out his main project  Jonathan also hosts a podcast and runs a website called “A Life Well Designed” (in which I had the pleasure recently of being a guest).  He’s also a martial artist (he studies Wing Chun) and we connect all of these threads, plus a few more in this super fun conversation that covers: Mind reading and mentalism; How mind reading can be applied to lifestyle design; Why and how pickpocketing works; “Echo time” versus “real time”; Martial arts; Design concepts and lifestyle design; Cognitive psychology and how we navigate reality Much more!
