About This List

A brief list of podcasts I compiled recently as resources for my martial arts school website. You can learn more about my inspiration for creating the list (and see a bit of detail) here:
  1. Since 2010, The China History Podcast, presented by Laszlo Montgomery presents over two hundred episodes of curated topics from China's antiquity to modern times.
  2. An audio journey through the 5000 year history of one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations.
  3. The China Guy brings the fascinating history of China to the masses. Be sure to subscribe and follow on Twitter. @ChinaGuyPodcast
  4. Podcast of 20th Century China by gives you the most vivid accounts of witnesses and historians on China's 20th century history.
  5. This program, History and Story of China, covers some very good Chinese stories from which you could learn something about the history and culture of China. I hope you like it. I invite you to leave your idea and suggestion here, which means a lot to me. Thanks for listening.  中国历史故事涵盖了许多很棒的中国故事,在欣赏英文故事时,理解中国历史文化。希望你能喜欢 。如果你有什么好的建议和提议,可以在这里评论。谢谢收听。
  6. Carrie Gracie presents a series exploring what ten great lives from Chinese history reveal about China today
  7. A college history of China and Japan—minus debt, dorms, and diplomas. Hosted by Justin Jacobs, professor of history at American University.
  8. Herbert Allen Giles (1845-1935) spent several years as a diplomat in China and in 1897 was appointed Cambridge University’s second professor of Chinese. His published works cover Chinese language and literature, history and philosophy. This series of lectures, published as “China and the Chinese”, was given at Columbia University in 1902, to mark the establishment of a Chinese professorship there. The lectures were not intended for the specialist, more to urge a wider and more systematic study of China and its culture, and to encourage new students into the field. While many of the observations are just as relevant today, others will remind us how much China has changed since the period of the Manchu Qing dynasty in which he wrote.
  9. Yet another history podcast. Currently I'm doing a series on classical China, titled All Under Heaven. The foci of this series, the Qin and Han dynasties, together lasted from 221 BC to AD 220. These dynasties have held a place in Chinese and greater east Asian history which is comparable to the place of ancient Greece and Rome in Europe. Under Qin and Han, China was transformed from a country of disparate, warring, feudal states to a united, expansionist empire, which would then slowly recede and eventually collapse into a new era of division. Just as interesting as these events is the development of Chinese philosophy, which informed the decisions of emperors and statesmen, and reacted to the changing political circumstances. If you'd like to listen to these stories and a thousand other tangential ones, than give it a listen. My website: My email:
  10. This podcast was created for the people that want to learn about China’s long history but don’t know where to start. We will be going on a 5000 year journey as we listen to how China developed into the World Power it is today. I will be simplifying and shortening the lessons so that anyone can jump in and become a student of China! Thank you for joining me!
