About This List

A list of new and notable podcast episodes I've listened to in the last two weeks. See my notes for each episode.
  1. Wilmot Collins is an interesting man with an interesting story. This is it. I hope you enjoy it. This is my first new publicly-released episode in more than two years - I'm back! Find more Strangers content, new and old, at - it's only $1 per month to join - or stay tuned here for more free episodes (free episodes will be released regularly throughout the pandemic).
  2. Here in the US, we're not used to needing to cover half of our faces in public, but if you look at the other side of the world, it's a different story. In parts of Asia, wearing a mask in response to the coronavirus pandemic was a totally easy and normal adjustment. Rebecca Kanthor is a reporter based in Shanghai who has lived in China for the past 17 years, and she tells us why the culture behind masks developed so differently there, and the doctor who started it all. Plus, we look at the manufacturers who pivoted to make products that are in short supply because of the pandemic. Masking for a Friend We have a book coming out!!! Check out The 99% Invisible City here.
  3. Perhaps the biggest accidental discovery story in the history of the universe. Well, definitely *about* the history of the universe. Greg tells Maren about a weird sound, and how two guys, Wilson & Penzias, figured out what it was, rocking the world of cosmology along the way.Expert: Professor Avi Loeb - Professor of Science at Harvard University, Chair of Harvard's Department of Astronomy, Founding Director of Harvard's Black Hole Initiative and Director of the Institute for Theory and Computation (ITC) within the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics Sources found here: Learn more about your ad-choices at
