10,000 POEMS by Mike Bell
This is my daily writing ritual. It started on the 5th of November 2015. It is a 30-plus year experiment to see if writing a poem a day, my ongoing commitment, can contribute to maintaining mental skills and avoiding those growing ravages of ageing upon the brain.
These poems form a narrative of my life, politically and emotionally, fact and fiction, with which I hope to find engagement with other individuals who are also just trying to get by, with, or without any concerns.
My inspiration comes from daily events, connections, films, books, and real interactions – ten thousand small things – which all seem to demand bigger attention from me.
I have been published in the UK & USA, although submissions often are not chased, and appearing on this site my poems are regarded as ‘published’ by editors, so make themselves excluded from the usual poetry game. But then I don’t play to those rules.
Other WorkMy pre-lockdown day job found me designing weird stuff for weird people – experiential, exhibition, event and other designs in 3D.

During lockdown, I lost all that work, so I created maps of data, which continue to flourish – primarily about bands, but also plots, sports, politics and lies.
